Dieting for Disney

GREAT JOB MARIA!!!

It is so good to hear of everyone's successes! I have not been on in a little while. And I feel bad about that:sad2: But, I am trying to just pick up and keep going. You all may not remember me, but I hope I can still be a part!

I wish I could say that I am doing great and still working on my goal...but that would only be half true...:rolleyes1

I have stopped eating right as I once did.....I have become a junk food junkie again!!popcorn::  I am going to Mcdonald's all the time and feeling the effects it is having.

The good news is that I am still going to Water Aerobics 3x a week!:yay: I have broken through the hour mark and now go to 90 min. without any trouble. I am a little tired at the end but impressed at the end. Starting in June I am increasing the days to 4 instead of 3 and at the same 90 min.:woohoo:

But in all, I am ready to get back into the game!!!! I am getting very excited to be getting to WDW at New Years and I want to be down at least 15% by then. (aka 60 lbs in 6 months) hey, I like the sound of that...60 in 6!!!:goodvibes

Allright party people....KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! I am so proud of you all!:grouphug:

Your going in the right direction that is what really counts!
Sending you postcard thoughts!

Evita You are always welcomed to our humble home on the web. It's great that you are still increasing your time in the pool. That's very exciting. I would like to see you stop with the McDonald's though. Use that as a reward for when you reach a short term goal. The fast food, junk food trap is something that we all get into. Of course it taste better but we have to get away from eating for taste but more for fuel. Be strong and know that we will always be here for you if you need us.

NeverenoughWDW Congratulations on being so close to that goal. I can relate. I am getting close to one of my goals but more on that later. I will say I will be listening for that screech. It may be harder for me to hear since I have only one ear that I can use but I will be listening. Good luck!!:cheer2:

Update I took yesterday off from the gym and from work. Instead, I was able to get my Dad out of the house and we played a short round of golf. This was a milestone because it has been 2 years since we played and he is always complaining about every part of his body hurting. He is even talking about getting one of those motorized scooters for his next trip. I wish I could get him on the healthier lifestyle kick. He just has lost his interest to care. That scares me. For me, I have been to the gym 4 times since Sunday and have done 120 miles on the bike. Other than that, I have been doing some working out with weights but not near enough. I will change that soon.

I do hope everyone is doing well. I know we all have our bad days where we just want to stop and give up. You know, just say that it isn't worth it. But remember, we are all doing this so that we can have a happier, even more active lifestyle. I can do things now that I haven't been able to since my early 20's. Stay focused. Remember your goals and you will achieve your dreams!!

Have a great night everyone!

Bryan

Bryan you are always so inspirational. I also know what you are talking about with your dad. Both of my parents do nothing. My dad lives on eggs, potatoes, and soda. Granted he is not overweight it is not good for him. Years ago he spent a lot of time in Vegas and turned to drinking only water. He commented on how much better it made him feel, etc. It didn't take long before he was back to drinking soda. And then once his union got him working steady he was getting into shape, but he was badly injured and had to have surgury. Well he didn't like not working but continued to work out as part of his physical therapy. Once that was over he stopped working out and then started to complain when he was having problems. He also smokes and makes no attempt to quit.

Speaking of quiting my mom went on CHantix or whatever its called. She had no problem quiting, went to WDW and came back and couldn't handle the stress at home (my brother is a violent alcoholic). But I have gotten her into eating more veggies and she has been the one going on hikes with me. And in the month and half that we have been doing it, I have seen a major increase in her ability to keep up with me.:woohoo: Now just to get her to stop smoking again.

Other than my older sister, I am most physically in shape of my entire family. My older sister works out on a daily basis. I also have my younger brother who just sits in his room and drinks and a little sister. I weigh about 75 pounds more than her, yet I can do more pushups, situps, walk longer and faster... she only eats junk also. I tried to get her to work out with me but it is like pulling teeth. She also has a drinking problem.

It's kinda funny, I watch what I eat and exercise yet I'm the biggest of my whole family. I guess size isn't a good judge of physical strength and stamina.

Anyways the past couple days I've been slacking off. But last night I went for a walk with my friend, Lina. We did 3 mph (which is fast for me and was really fast for her) and walked 3 miles. I'm gonna call her and find out if she's going again tonight.

As for food:

Breakfast:
.75 c Honey Bunches of Oats
.75 c milk

Lunch:
2 oz Pork tenderloin
2 c lettuce
10 spray Salad Spritzer
1/2 grapefruit

Dinner:
4 oz turkey breast
1 c lettuce
10 spray salad spritzer
1 small baked potato w/skin
.5 T sour cream
1 T butter (probably was less but I didn't measure it)

Snacks:
1 large banana
.5 c Edamame
1 piece whole wheat bread
1 T jelly

Just thought I would drop a quick line. I haven't been able to go to the gym this weekend due to a head cold that has hit me pretty hard. I haven't had a cold in over 3 years and that was because I had ran out of my vitamins. This one, I have no idea why I am down. I am planning on getting back into the game tomorrow when I get off work. I may only do some cardio but I will be there.

I hope everyone else is having a good weekend. I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Bryan

I hope we are all having a GREAT WEEK!! I am trying to have one...:rotfl2:

Sorry for my absenteeism, just dealing with stuff right now :(

I'm sure I'll be back on track soon.

Bryan - hope you're feeling better - you're the backbone of this thread -
don't push yourself too hard or you might relapse!
So when is your next WDW trip?

Evita - You can do it! Water Aerobics sounds like fun! I gotta try it!
Becky - any reward is worth working for! I change it up all the time!
Amy - Congrats on graduating:cheer2:

I hope everyone a successful and fun filled weekend!

On a lighter side...
I need a vaca from this cold northeast!
Who wants a visitor for a weekend:rotfl2:

Hey everyone! It is great to hear from the ones that have posted in the last couple of days since my last post, which would be Evita and Liz. Is everyone else ok or just really busy with the end of the school year?

Liz I know you are at the end of the school year and it is always a hectic, chaotic time of the year for a teacher. If I can try to offer up one suggestion, please remember to take a step back, take a deep breath and relax. During the craziest times off our year, we have to remember this little trick to make sure that we don't go insane. I am going to also PM you a message (probably tomorrow) with a personal question to get your opinion. It will make more sense once you read it. Otherwise, I do hope everything is ok and if I had the room, I would love to have you down for the weekend. If for no other reason, so we could meet and train a little together to get ideas off of each other. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

Evita pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: Here is a lot of help in hopes that you are having a great week.

My week last week was very good. I was able to do more cardio than I ever have. I put in a total of 158.75 miles on the bike. That's a new record for me. Now, I am in the process of changing my thinkng some. I am going to do more walking and speed-walking so I can train and get in shape to do some 5ks and 10ks. I really want to see if I can do that so I have another personal goal. I will let you know how I progress but as of right now, I have been able to do a mile in 14 minutes walking so I feel confident in being able to improve upon that. I will let you know more soon.

Everyone have a great holiday weekend!
Bryan

Hi Everyone,

My weight just isn't moving, I was doing so well and now it is just "stuck". It's so frustrating. Actually the middle of this past week out of no where I gained almost 3 lbs!!!!!! I am back down to where I was at the beginning of the week but it really makes it tough especially when I was so close to a major goal :confused3

Everyone sounds good so I will continue to use all of you as my strength!

Wishing all of you a safe relaxing weekend!

Maria

Hi Maria!
Your weight can fluctuate during the week-
try to choose one day per week and weigh yourself
at the same time/same day.

When I've plateaued before, I've switched up my exercise/eating routine.
Try to go with more raw foods (veggies/fruits/nuts)
I've also used Slimfast to replace a meal and that works for me.
If you're doing the same exercise, try something new.
I'm stuck in the 4mile zone - same pace, same path = no loss
I'm going to have to change up my running and go for
more distance or a faster pace to boost my calorie burn.
Good luck!

Here's an article that might help also:

How to Boost your Metabolism...

Eat lots of small meals

* Split up your calories between breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
* Don't make dinner your largest meal.
* Eat every three to four hours. Your body works hard to digest and absorb the food we eat, and your metabolism revs up in response.

Don't skip breakfast

* Eat a healthy breakfast to jumpstart your metabolism.
* Have breakfast within two hours of waking. Studies show that if you do this, you are more likely to control your weight.
* Don't let coffee ruin your appetite.

Never starve yourself

* Don't skip meals. It's like going on a mini-diet. Going long periods of time between meals each day may slow your metabolic rate so that you burn calories more slowly.
* Stop dieting. The same metabolic slowdown that kicks in when you skip breakfast also works against you whenever you drastically cut back on the amounts of food you eat.
* Don't take in too few calories or your body will try to store more fat.

Don't eat late at night

* Your metabolism is slowest in the evening, so don't overeat then. Give your body at least three hours before bedtime to digest.
* Remember, you are going to eat within one hour of waking up.
* If you do shift work, your metabolism will fall in line with your eating and sleeping schedule, not the clock.

Eat protein with almost every meal/snack

* Eating protein boosts your metabolism more than carbohydrates or fats.
* Eating enough protein will help you maintain and build muscle mass.
* Keep protein intake anywhere from 0.5 gram to 0.8 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Use the higher end only if you exercise vigorously.
* Good sources of low-fat protein include lean meats, turkey breast, skinless chicken breast, fish, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, tofu and beans.

Balance your other nutrients

* Choose whole-grain carbohydrates instead of refined. That means oatmeal, brown rice, whole-wheat bread, barley, sweet potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, beans, etc.
* Eat enough healthy fats. These include avocados, olive oil, nuts and seeds, natural peanut butter, ground flax seeds and fatty fish.
* Round out your diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. The more color and fiber, the better.

Exercise!

* Exercise to burn calories and speed up your metabolic rate.
* Move your body to stimulate fat-burning enzymes to break down fat.
* Do aerobic exercise (at least 30 minutes) four or five times a week. Your metabolism rises every time you work out.
* Do strength training at least twice a week. Lifting weights and doing push-ups or crunches will help you increase muscle tissue, which burns slightly more calories than fat.

Sample Meals

Breakfast

* Cottage cheese or yogurt with fresh fruit
* One or two eggs and a slice of whole-grain bread

Lunch

* Turkey burger on a whole-grain bun and a salad
* Salad with grilled chicken and small amount of dressing

Dinner

* Fish with vegetables and a baked potato
* Shrimp and vegetables over a small amount of brown rice or pasta

Snacks

* 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter on a large rice cake
* A pear and a piece of low-fat string cheese

Twotoohappy - Thanks! It is a great relief knowing that I am finally done with school!

I know that I have been absent for awhile but I have been recouperating from a long, horrific semester of school! Plus it seems as if we are always having to do something and never have time to just relax at home.

Well I don't remember if I told y'all, but I had gained back three pounds. That's from us eating out way too much. I try to eat well when I go out, such as grilled chicken, dressing on the side, steamed veggies, nothing fried, etc., but then I remember how much oil and butter some of these things are probably ladled with. I lost two of the three pounds, but I feel like I may have put them back on. Honestly, I believe that can be attributed to a female thing.

We just bought the Wii fitness board and I am going to get DH to set it up tonight. I don't know how much this will help but I figure any type of exercise (well most) is a good thing. Plus, it combines yoga with aerobic activity, strength training, and some cardio. I will let you know how it goes. The good thing about it is that you can track your progress everyday or however many days you want. It should be interesting and fun!

I hope that everyone is doing well. Stay positive, keep focused, and keep moving!

Just wanted to let you all know that the Wii Fitness really kicks your butt! I just tried it today for the first time - I did 28 minutes and sweated a lot! If I do it everyday (or at least 5 days a week), I should be in good shape in a few months!

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you have had a great weekend both of food and family but also remembering our soldiers overseas.

I was going to give a brief update. I have been very bus this weekend with my workouts. I have already put in 85 miles worth of cardio and have done 2 hours worth of lifting. It has been a busy but actually fun weekend for me. I have an enjoyment about going to the gym again like I haven't had in a long time. So I guess overall, things are good.

Hope all of you are doing well also. I can't wait to read about your successes.

Bryan:yay: :woohoo:

Hey all....here's to the start of a great week. (or at least a better week!):goodvibes

My week was just OK. Thank you for all your happy thoughts my way. I am off my water class this week because of finals at the college. I can't wait until I can go back next week!! Could it be? I am missing exercise??:confused3 :rotfl: Answer: YES!!!!:hyper: When I go back it will be 4 days a week and 90 minutes per class...I CAN'T WAIT!!!:cool2:

My good news for this week is that my DH is going to start working with me toward our goals. He has always been supportive but now he is going to do things with me. Our goal is 60 in 6!! We leave for WDW in 6 months and in that time we want to lose 60 pounds.:thumbsup2

Well, I just wanted to check in. Have a wonderful week and keep it up everyone!!

Today was a good day for me at the gym. I got a good workout on my back (even though I was feeling pretty "wiped") and then I did 30 miles on the bike. Now, honestly I am looking forward to tomorrow. I have a short day at work and then off to the gym. I am planning on doing another 40 or 50 miles tomorrow on the bike. Then, I am going to come home and take my daughter for a walk. I am going to try to do at least 5-6 miles walking. I am only going to get my daughter to do 1-1.5 miles. I am trying to help her to build up her endurance as well. We will just have to wait and see.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I know it is summer time but don't stop now. This is a very important time of year for us to make sure that we keep each other in check and moving in the right direction.

"Winners are the ones who push thru the boundaries that others set in front of them!" BE A WINNER!!:woohoo:

I have decided if you all don't mind that I should write in here every couple of days about my recommitment to being healthy! :cool1:

Well, today starts Day 3! Yes, I have for the last two days been out of the house, active, and ready to for success. (I have become quite the homebody when I don't have a water class to go to.) This is what I look like...:happytv: popcorn:: :surfweb: So, I got up on Tues. and said "NO MORE....GET UP...GET OUT!! And that is what I did.

Tuesday I went and took myself out to lunch. I figured it was the only way to stay out of the house. And then, I walked to the movies which was in the same mall complex.

Wedensday I got up and out way early. After a good breakfast, I went to my favorite place TARGET! I wandered and then went to Subway for lunch. I stuck to the Turkey and only drank water and apple slices! No cookies!::yes::

So for today after I get done here it is out I go today. Where will I go, I do not know...but I do know I will be active doing it! :yay:

Have a GREAT day everyone!!

Hey Everyone,

My physical activity has been very low, still sticking at 20lbs loss and the scale isn't moving! Tomorrow I have a very active day as well as Saturday so hopefully the scale will make a move.:cool1:

Hi Eva, stop by any time you want! This is a great place! Lots of support during the ups & the downs!

Hope everyone is doing great!

Maria

Maria I know how frustrating it is for the scale not to move. That does have a tendency to happen when you get close to your goal. Your body is getting used to what you have been doing. So, change it up. If you would, tell us what your routine is, maybe we can give you some ideas on how to add a new twist to it so you can see some new results. Let us know if we can help.

Evita Please, post anything that you want. We are here to be a soundboard, informative and hopefully helpful. We all want you to succeed. Your success is our success. So yes! Post anything anytime.

My Update I had an incredible week this week. I was able to do over 200 miles of cardio. I spent 20 hours in the gym and I had a good week at work. All in all, I feel very tired!!:lmao: Some more good news is that I can see my stomach getting tighter. This is good timing. I have just found out that I will be going to the beach for July 4th so I need to be ready. Otherwise, I will be doing another post tomorrow of something that might be helpful. I don't want to make this one too long so I will just do a follow-up.

I really hope everyone has had a great week. Next week is still up in the air. We can still make it the best week yet. Add more intensity, more focus and more determination. We are the Winners that persevere when the chips are down. Don't let a scale, job or so-called friends get you down and make it where you don't succeed! You can do it!!!:yay: :woohoo:

Well, here we are at the start of another week! :cool1:

I am most excited because early this morning (7am) starts my summer water class. :yay: I am really excited to get started with it already. Because of finals at the college the pool has been closed. But, now it is open and I am going M-TH from 7-830. (I realize I maybe repeating myself--I'm sorry) It will an intense 6 weeks, but I am up for the challenge. I know there is that point for everyone when they need to push a little harder now that it has become a little easy....well now is the time!! :goodvibes

My active goal that I set last week is going good. Friday was a little rough, but thanks to my DH it went a lot better. Also, Saturday was wonderful. We got out and went to Disneyland. I could not walk all the time, but with some breaks and the wheelchair we did fine. Next goal: No wheelchair!

Well, keep it up everyone. Maria and Bubba thanks for all your kind words. It is nice to have such a welcome place. To all who are usually here and are not right now...I LOVE you guys too....keep going and write soon!:surfweb: :grouphug:

Hey All!
Just checking in to see how everyone is doing:thumbsup2
The summer is almost here and that will mean
more time to spend outside!

Evita - I'm glad you had a great DL trip!! Congrats! Keep up the good work and you'll be running around DL in no time :woohoo:

Bryan - Your miles are great! You'll be ready for the 1/2 in no time ;)
Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be looking HOT in your
Speedo in July!

Maria - Plateaus happen - don't give up :goodvibes

As for me...
I'm ready for some summer fun!
3 more weeks of work and then summer break :dance3:
