Dieting for Disney

2) I want to get in my best physical condition so I can do the Family 5k respectfully in January. (and if I feel like I can, even the half. Liz, don't count me out yet, Sis!) :woohoo:

Woohoo! Bryan's doing the 5k and the 1/2 with me!:yay:

Well, yesterday I did a 10 min hike and then another 30 min hike later in the day. I always changed up my strength training work out... before I was doing on set of a bunch of different exercises... now I'm trying to do multiple sets. Anyways, I'm in a ton of pain... at least my abdomen is. It hurts so bad when I sneeze!

I have always had a dream of doing this.....hummmmmmm

I have had a dream about doing it too and part of me is wondering if I will be ready for it. I did my first 7 miler the other day and was well within the pace requirements and never even pushed myself. I know I still need to build up more distance and stamina and at the same time, more speed. I am going to continue doing my training where I will stay in the 5-7 mile range for a little while. My hamstrings were pretty sore after my last walk so I want to make sure that I can do this distance without hurting before I add to it. Once I can do that, I will up it to a 10 mile walk while trying to stay just under the 15 minute per mile pace. I know I can't just go out Saturday and say that I am going to do a 15 mile walk in less than 4 hours and not expect to get hurt. One of the most important things in the world to do when training is to make sure that you train smart.

Becky - Do you have any idea why your abdomen is hurting you so much? Is it your training, stomach virus?? Any ideas? We all want our training to help us with having a healthier lifestyle but we have to make sure that we don't hurt ourselves too. Some pain is good. That means you are working the muscle. But more importantly, please take care of yourself.

My update As of tonight, I have reached 100 miles already for this week in my cardio training. Tonights session on the bike burned off 1000 calories for a total of 33 miles. Tomorrow and Saturday, I will be doing more biking but I will also be throwing some walks in there to help me get ready.

I hope everyone is having a good week. Not only is the week almost over but the year is already half over. I know we all made New Year's Resolutions. How have we done in the first half? This would be a great time to analyze and report. This is your accountability session. Let us know how you have done, what you have left to accomplish and when do want to reach your short term and long term goals. Let's have fun team!!!

Hi all-

It's been a while since I posted, but I thought I'd post an update on myself. On May 9th I hit my goal weight, which meant I'd lost 66.5 pounds. Since then, as of June 7th to be exact, I reached the 70 pound loss mark. I am pretty happy about that. People actually comment on how "skinny" I look, which I can't get over. I have been overweight since the third grade, so to hear that I look "skinny" is very odd, but I love hearing it.

Now that I hit my goal, I have a hard time with what I eat. I feel that since I hit my goal, and am pretty happy with my weight, I should be able to eat a little more than what I had been eating, but then I feel guilty about eating certain things. I'm sure it will come easier, I just need to get in the groove. :hippie:

Hope everyone else is doing well!!

It's definately from doing those crunches. I don't think its any worse than any other time I have strength trained a different part of my body. But one thing I know is, I didn't except my abs to be so sensitive so I didn't spend as much time stretching them as I do the rest of my body that I know are not that strong. The pain is gone today, but I will stretch a lot more today after my crunches!

Also... yesterday, not such a good day for me. I ate dinner at the restaurant where we hold our monthly committee meetings... I ordered their signature dish, speghetti. I ate the whole salad first, and only a little bit of the speghetti (like a cup). But I also had a mini canoli.

I talked to my ex about getting his old bike up and working for me and I'll start biking.

Ok Folks....I have really been thinking about January and the Disney Marathon.
Does anyone know the date? I'm going to call tomorrow and see if there is an available studio for that weekend.:thumbsup2:yay:

The race weekend is January 8-11, 2009. Here is the website to get more info: http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com/dwws/en_US/endurance/listing?name=EnduranceEventListingPage2

Liz has also provided me a travel agency that says they can still get us into the 1/2 marathon (if you book thru them). That site is anthonytravel.com. I am booked for the 5k right now. I am still not sure about the 1/2 but I am leaning towards it more and more after each training session.

Let us know what you decide!!!

Congratulations on reaching such an impressive result. It is hard for someone to realize that they can eat again after loosing that much weight. You are always fearful of putting the weight back on. But what we have to do is to eat sensible and in moderation. Remember what you have learned in order to loose that weight. Also, remember that you have a higher metabolism rate now so you can handle more calories than before and not gain anything. Plus, keep up with your workouts. You have lost the bad weight. Now, you can put on good weight. Ex: 10 years ago, I had lost 52 pounds and got down to a low of 160 pounds. Then, I joined my gym, started learning and asking a lot of questions about adding some muscle. The first 2 years, there was no change because I was still scared of putting it back on. Then, in the next 18 months, I put on 20 pounds of muscle with proper training. I know I gained weight in this time but I didn't add 1 inch to my waist so it was healthy weight.

I guess the long and the short of it is to be smart and don't overdo it. You have already proven to the world that you are a winner and can succeed. That is fantastic!!

Who's next?

Bryan

Being back in action feels great! I don't know where I lost my momentium.

Anyways, my abs don't hurt today like they did 2 days ago so I definately think it was from not working them out.

I got a 36 hour week next week, but most of my shifts are nights, so I'll get to the park and hike it up first thing in the morning (I hope the rain clears up so I can hit it up tomorrow!).

Congrats to all of you doing the 1/2 this January!!!!!  wish I could join you, but I won't be doing any travelling at that time. I'll sure be excited to hear how it goes though.

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day weekend. I had a weekend full of anniversary parties and buffets. Oy! I'm looking forward to eating better this week - even with company coming. I'm planning on getting up early to run 5km.

Here's to a great week for everyone!!

I know how you feel about the parties! On the 7th was my cousin's wedding. I actually did pretty good I thought! But I have graduation parties and birthday parties coming up left and right...

These upcoming parties I'm going to work vary hard to avoid all the snacky foods.

Today I'm a walking disaster! Nothing I did went right! Well except my eating. I was within my calories! No workout today though. :( I got called into work early.

I'll do it tomorrow. I'm thinking kickboxing for something new. It takes less time than hiking anyways.

Hello there Team DFD!! I always look forward to reading everyone's posts. It gets me so excited for my workouts. I am eager to go out for another walk right now. Obviously, that isn't going to happen since I have to be at work early in the morning but I would still like too.

Becky Don't beat yourself up for missing a workout. It is during the rest days that our bodies heal and get stronger. (This is the hardest thing for me to learn because I really do enjoy my workouts so much that I will go every day.) As long as you are eating good and still getting 3-4 days worth of exercise, you will see results. I have faith in you and your success.

CJK I hate that you will not be able to join us for marathon weekend in January but I do understand. I know we still have 6 months before the event but I am getting so excited about being able to actually meet so many people that I have only been talking to for the last couple of years. I know Liz and I will miss you. Otherwise, I do hope everything is going good for you.

My Update I took yesterday off from the gym for Father's Day. I stayed at home for most of the day. My parents wanted me to record the race so they can watch it and then I watched the golf tournament. So I was pretty lazy yesterday but I made up for it today. I went to the gym and worked out my shoulders and triceps. Plus, I threw in some ab work and then the cardio. I stayed on the bike long enough to get in 30 miles. If the weather is good tomorrow, I will probably do 25 miles on the bike and then a 5 mile walk to keep my time up. Plus, I am adding a lot more ab work and stretching to try to limber up my hamstrings. They have always been tight but I have always wanted to be able to actually touch my toes.:confused3

This is a new week DFDers. Now, what are we going to do? Are we going to come up with excuses or are we going to remember what our goals are and continue to go for them? It does take a little more effort but that little extra effort is what winners give. Just ask Kerdad, Twotoohappy and CJK (for a couple of examples). What I know that these 3 have been able to accomplish could right novels. Let's go team!!

Bryan:yay:

How's everyone's week going??

Well, I did something I'm proud of today. I gave most of my party leftovers away. I even gave away the last 4 slices of my chocolate caramel cheesecake to my neighbours. It was hard to do............but I already ate too much last weekend!! I made little baggies of the rest of the squares for relatives and just brought the fruit and dip home. I ate a little bit of the dip and then got rid of that too. I did it right after running 5km, so I was really motivated. I knew that in a couple hours, I may not have the same discipline (and I think I was right!! ;) ). Good thing there's no more cheesecake sitting in my fridge!

Have a great week!

Great job!! It is hard to get away from foods that you really desire. That is a huge step. I am very proud of you and your commitment! Way to go!!

Hi Gang,

Pilates 2x this week already. I actually rebuilt a stone wall around one of my flower gardens and it felt really good to be so physical and make something so pretty at the same time.

Tomorrow I will have to go on the glider and I will walk Thursday & then back to pilates Friday.
I've noticed the produce has really become more varied with seasonal fruit so DH & I have been enjoying all kinds of berries and some delicious mangos....nice to change the fruit around a little bit.

Hope you are all having a great week so far!

Personal Moment

This is my home and my family. Whenever I am at the gym, trying to get in one more rep or one more mile, you are all of the ones that I think of first for my motivation. So whenever my body maybe saying "No More!", I hear all of you saying "One More!!" and I keep going.

We all have come to this place for a couple of the same reasons. 1) Obviously, we all love Disney. 2) We all want to be healthier. 3) We need help from fellow number 1's to be able to achieve number 2. But I think there is one more reason we want to be healthier. It is a selfish reason but we all would like to know that we have made a positive transformation for our bodies. In other words, we want someone to tell us that we look good!! That's it in a nutshell. No way to get around it. It's the truth so let's embrace it whole-heartedly.

Now I have said all of that to tell you this. To take you back a little bit, last May I had my knee scoped and was out of training seriously for 3 months. I did no cardio for 6 months. During this time, I put on about 30 pounds of fat. Also, during this time, I made the decision to change gyms to one that was closer to home so I could frequent it more often. The gym has just celebrated 1 year of being opened. (I joined opening day.) Today, when I went in, I started talking to the GM of the place. He said, "Brother, I have to tell you that out of all of the clients that we have here at this gym since we have opened, you have made the biggest transformation of any of them. You look great. You're walking tall and with your shoulders back. Everyone can tell that you have a higher degree of self-confidence than you did 1 year ago. When you first joined, you would slouch a lot but you're not doing that anymore. Keep it up, bro! You're doing great!"

I really didn't know what to say at that point. I was excited about the changes that I have made but I didn't think it was that noticeable. I thanked him for what he said and then went on with my workout but I went on feeling a lot better than I did when I came in.

This is why we train. We can all achieve this standard. And what is really cool is, for me, I have a drive and determination now to achieve higher and loftier goals that I am setting for myself. I have only been able to achieve this due to the fact that I have this TEAM here to support me. Everyone else thinks that I am nuts for going to the gym everyday so it is great knowing that I can come here and get support and encouragement to get me ready for the next day's training session.

Just wanted to share that with all of you and say thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! :yay: :woohoo:

Thank you Bryan for your wonderful words!

I don't think you are crazy going to the gym everyday. I think that is GREAT!! I wish that some day I will be strong enough to do so. :thumbsup2

You are so cool!! Thanks for always making me feel welcome. ::yes:: :goodvibes

Bryan,

Wow, you brought tears to my eyes and nailed it right on the head.

It is so important that we remember these things and realize that even though we are connected to each other through our computers it can give you just as much strength as the people you live with or see day to day. What an important powerful thing we are when we are all together moving in the same direction!

Boy did you just make me feel 100%+ for my pilates class..

I have to run for class & will check in later. GO TEAM!:)
