Dieting for Disney

Well time to post again!! Just made the reservation for May :cool1:  :yay: :cheer2: :woohoo:

I lost about 30 pounds last year due to a trip to Maui in October 07. I did great w/ my exercise and diet but I have not done a thing since getting back from the trip in October :sad2:

At least I was able to maintin over the holidays fairly well. I just got the diet in line this week and dropped the 3 pounds I put on so I feel good about that. I need to get up and get on the treadmill again. I was doing an hour at 4.0 at minimum and actauly starting to jog a bit..which I have never done!

I'm at 170 now and would love to lose another 20 before May. Hope to stay commited and reach my goal.

I was all ready to start working out but I turned into an old person 1 day last week and had a foot problem, shoulder pain, eye issue, injured jaw (2yr old practically dislocated my TMJ by jumping at me).

I think it's all resolved so hopefully tomorrow I can start.

Thanks for listening..try to post when I can.

DisFam95 Welcome back! It is really great to have you come back to our little corner of the web. I will say that I believe that your goals are very easily obtainable. 20 pounds in 5 months. This won't be a problem... as long as we stay focused and not get discouraged or blindsided. I sincerely hope that we can help you along. But at the same time, I wish I was able to go back to WDW this year too.

Quick Update I was able to go back to the gym again tonight so after taking three days off, I have 2 days back on. I really wanted to come home and watch the football game but I decided to go ahead and go and I got a pretty good workout. I did shoulders, abs and cardio. I limited my cardio to only 30 minutes as I actually have a "blood bruise" on the back of my leg that is a little uncomfortable. So I tried to do more abs. I believe I finished off with 300 crunches for tonight. I am planning on getting to the gym in time tomorrow night so I can get my workout in and then watch Biggest Loser as I do my cardio. I have been massaging my leg tonight so it is feeling a lot better. Still sore but better.

Challenge: For the next two weeks, try to do a different method of cardio. So if you do the treadmill most of the time, try to go for a bike ride or climb a hill or even go swimming. Just change it up so you will shock your body into a whole new mode. Let's see how we do!!:cheer2: :woohoo:

Love ya!
Bryan

I had a great day in the gym yesterday after taking the weekend off. I did only cardio yesterday but I'm paying for it. I had gotten a blister last week on Friday, my shoes were being funny, I thought it was a fluke and did 4 miles in 55 minutes yesterday. Great except my shoes not only gave me a matching blister on the other foot but tore up the original blister. Ouch. My heel looks terrible and doesn't feel much better so I'm laying off today. I'm hoping that it dries out enough so that I can take pool classes tomorrow. I've been drowning it in neosporin and keeping it clean.

I'm not going to let this get me down. I went outside, in shorts today (who'd have thought I'd be able to do that in January) and cleaned out my truck. It was icky, very very icky, in there. It's clean, all that's in the truck now is Delaney's lap desk and the ice scraper (which I hear I'm going to need next week.) I'm working around the house and trying to get things done. I'm hoping to find enough of the floor to do some yoga or something.

I hope all the marathoners are ready to go!

Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Bryan: good for you for going to do your workout :thumbsup2 The hardest part of the workout is actually getting of ours butts to go do something!

o2bacelt: Sorry about the blisters. I used to get them and would get so bummed that I had to back off on my cardio. I highly recommend Bodyglide. I get it at my local runners store (shoe store). It's like a deoderant stick type things. I use it between my toes and I've not had a blister in years!!! Even after an hour run/walk 5dy/wk for wks. That's what I need to get back to doing!

I did do the treadmill last night. I little slower and less time than I used to but at least I did it!!! :goodvibes

A week into the new year and I'm down 2.8 pounds on my new goal.

Feels good :yay:

Wow - this group is back and on fire!!!! It's just wonderful hearing from all of you and hearing about your daily successes and challenges. Way to go on all that exercise! Imagine how many calories we've burned when put together?! Keep up the fantastic job. You're all inspiring me to keep it up.

I did another squat/weights routine today which went much better than last week. I'm able to walk now, so I'd say that's a good sign. ;) My clothes are still tight from before our December trip though, so I've still got work to do. I'd like to follow Bubba's lead and try to do something different this week. I've got just a couple weeks before our beach vacation near Tampa, so I need to bring it up a notch.

Best wishes to all you athletes (and marathon runners!!). We're all in this together.

It is REALLY exciting to see so much involvement and enthusiasm again on this thread. I was thinking that we were about to vanish and then all of a sudden, we have had an outpouring of support and excitement. Being able to come on here and read all this gets me more energized for my next workout session. I want to go back to the gym right now but I can't.

Instead of doing what I usually do which is call out everyone that has put up a post, I am going to "ramble" for a moment. Please forgive me if any of this is boring or shocking. I really feel like I am in the beginning stages of an eating disorder. I can't even look at food right now. When I do, it all looks disgusting. For instance, I usually start the day with some cereal before I go to work. I always get the same kind for the health benefits of this particular one. The taste isn't bad but it isn't great either. This morning I had about 3 bites and threw the rest of it away because I felt like I was about to loose it. I was trying to eat my protein bar and it didn't have any flavor to it either. I come home and look in the fridge and the only thing I can find is my bottle of water. I am starting to wonder if I am going through this battle in conjunction with other battles. I am wondering if it is a side battle with depression since last year as a whole ended up on a sour note. I have been training and educating myself too long to think that this is the way for me to loose weight and inches or anything else like that. I am smarter than that. I mean, I am trying to force some food down my throat. But when a healthy diet for a male is between 1800 - 2200 calories a day, right now my intake is about 800 - 1000 per day. What's stupid is that I keep telling my wife to get me certain foods while she is at the grocery store but while I am saying it I feel nauseated(?). I am trying to work through this and am hoping that talking about it openly with friends that I trust will help me get passed whatever demons I am experiencing right now that is causing this. I guess most of all I would like to ask for a sincere word of prayer for guidance out of this "funk" so I can be a better man, father, husband and even leader.

Thanks for everything that all of you have done for me! You will honestly never know or understand how close I feel to every single one of you even though we may be 1000 miles apart.

Bryan

PS: Let us also remember one of our own, Twotoohappy. She is at WDW right now getting ready for her 1/2 marathon. I pray she exceeds her expectations and does very well but nevertheless, I am extremely proud of her in her attempt!!!:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm back!
Thanks for the well wishes everyone and thank you
Bryan for the added support:goodvibes
I finished the 5k and the 1/2.
I just got home an hour ago so I need to spend some time
with my daughter, but I promise to post tomorrow!
Missed you all and it was GREAT!!!!!

I'll post tomorrow,
~Liz:hippie:

Welcome back Twotoohappy and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I can just feel your excitement! I can't wait to hear more about it when you get settled. Will you post any pics? What an amazing accomplishment for you! We were sure thinking about you!

Bubba:   I'm so glad that you felt you could share with us. We're very concerned for you. The good news is that you know something is wrong and you won't let it go unchecked. I could sit here and tell you about the importance of eating enough food each day, but you already know that. It sounds like your issue isn't knowledge, but is psychological. Maybe you could speak to a counsellor, take some time out for yourself to figure out why this is happening. In short, please take care of yourself in between your busy schedule. You're worth it. We're always here for you to lean on, as you've always been for us. It's your turn now. Please, please take care and do not give up. There is an answer out there and I trust and know that you'll find it. Best wishes.

Twotoohappy  :cool1: :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo: I am filled with anticipation to hear about your trip and your time in the marathon. Please let us know whenever you get the chance. We are all very happy for what you have done.

CJK:worship: :thanks: I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you have said. I have actually taken a couple of days off from the gym to try to relieve some of my stress levels. I have also increased my eating. I have decided both physically and psychologically that if I can't do it the right and healthy way, then I will be ahppy with what I can achieve. I may focus more on my intensity levels in the gym both working out and on the cardio machines but I am not going to allow myself to enter in to the world of eating disorders. I have way too much education in proper diet and nutrition to do that.

You know though, I have to think that I went through this for a reason. I have been training, dieting and exercising on a regular and consistant basis for almost 10 years. I have learned a lot of the ins and outs of what to do and not do. So if something like this can happen to someone that has all of this knowledge (I guess) about what works and be able to beat it back, maybe it can help someone else that is starting to enter into that area or feeling. It is a disease but it can be beaten.

I will be back in the gym tomorrow evening working as hard as my body will allow me too. But I promise I will eat during the day. I will just eat smart.

Thank you for your help and thoughts during this period!!:grouphug:

Bryan

thanks everyone for the support
and well wishes:goodvibes
I posted this on another thread, but it
tells it all:thumbsup2
I will post pics when I get them from the
Disney Photographers or the other WISHers

What an incredible experience!
I was so nervous about the races, especially the 1/2 that
I almost backed out of it. I'm in pretty good shape, but
lacked the confidence to try a race.
I am so glad that I did!!!!
Here's a brief overview:

Arrived Wed. night at BCV from chilly Massachusetts.

Thurs - We (myself and my friend Susan) walked around
Epcot until the Expo was open. I decided to wear my WISH
shirt hoping to see fellow WISHers. I've only been to one
Dismeet a few years back, but never had the chance to meet
up with anyone else. I'm an outgoing person, kinda, but a
little nervous meeting new people.
We arrived at the Expo and I was immediately found and hugged
by Anne and several WISHers. Thank you Anne!!! You made my
first WISH experience at the Expo as well as in the race so incredible!
You are an extremely special person :goodvibes
I'll apologize now because I am HORRIBLE with names!
I'd love to get a pic of everyone I met,
so the next time I'll be more able to put names with faces, instead
of screen-names and faces lol.
So.... it was really, really wonderful to be so welcomed that I can't
even tell you much it meant to me! We then waited in line and met
up with Wendy. She told us that she was doing all 3 races and
reassured me that I'd be fine even it I walked
(but a very quick, brisk walk). I'd been told that by
many people, but actually hearing it from somebody who has done
it was a huge relief and probably the biggest confidence booster that
I got. Thank you Wendy!!!!!:goodvibes
We head home, much poorer, but I have a new race shirt - thanks for
the advice re:how hot the short sleeve shirts can be and also the
coolest race belt for all my power gel!

Fri - Got up oh so early at 4:30 to make the bus at 5:30am.
We headed over to AK and immediately found the WISH team.
Got to hang out with everyone, got pics taken, again forgot everyone's
name, but it was a blast! It was so nice to see the scream team and
hear those cow bells! :worship: I can't tell you again how much the scream teams
help keep you going. I made it through the 5k,
stopping only to offer to take pics for people who were taking turns
photographing their running partners -
it was so much fun! I'd definately do it again!

Sat- Got up at 2:30am to catch the bus for 3:30am. Geesh this was
early! I remembered all the great WISH advice and stopped at every
port a potty before heading into the corrals! It totally saved me! The
race was such and experience. I loved passing WISHers and saying hi
to them along the course. LOVED all the scream teams!
I'm going to do the 1/2 next year and stay for the full to scream team!

thank you to the WISHer who shared their body glide with me!!!!!!

The course was
basically flat with only the Contemporary hill and the one onramp around
mile 11. Having the DJ's, bands, choirs and characters and all the people
cheering you on was just the best! I did have my mp3 player on and saw
many people with them also. I finished within the time limit,
got my medal and just couldn't be happier!

I'm so looking forward to next year!
I'm solo as of right now, but I know there will be lots of WISH
friends there, so I'm not worried:goodvibes

notes for next year:
1. get a WISH sleeveless shirt/hat/armband because the short
sleeved shirt was too hot for me
2. slow down in MK to take everything in
3. bring a small camera to take pics with
4. charge my mp3 player so it doesn't die on mile 13
5. remember my WISH friends names lol
6. stay longer to be a scream teamer!
7. pack body glide!

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see lots of pics that everyone took!
There are great races here on Cape Cod if anybody wants to come
for a visit :)

So that was my review.
I honestly thought I couldn't do it, but the WISHers
on and off the course kept me going. I thought of this group
as I was hitting the 11mile, on-ramp never-ending hill, and
just kept thinking that I've got to come back and post about the
race and the only way I wouldn't finish is if they carried me off!
This group has been a great support and I thank you all:grouphug:
I am going to do the 5k and 1/2 next year too I've decided!
If you want to experience Disney in a whole new light - run it!
The best thing was that for the 5k I was back at the hotel at 8:30am
and after the 1/2 I was back by 11am.

~Liz

Just an addition to my post....
I got the BEST running belt (in my opinion) that worked great
for the 1/2 marathon from Overton at the expo. It looks small,
but it holds my cel phone, mp3 player, gel, jellybeans and then some.
The bib hooks worked great on it. I got the lime green. They don't
have the lime on their website yet, but I emailed them in case somebody
else wanted one. It worked super and didn't bounce around at all
and it didn't feel like I had a belt on at all. Definately my favorite
item I got at the expo.

Hey everyone! What's going on? It seems like we had a "rush" for a couple of days and then we have gotten cold again. The only one that has posted has been Liz. (By the way, I really enjoyed reading about your trip. It sounds like you got everything that you wanted and maybe even more than you expected. I am very happy for you!)

So, on that note, I am going to break the silence that we have been experiencing for the last couple of days. I have been very faithful to the gym and the challange that we set forth. I have been changing up my cardio routine every night. I am still keeping in the elliptical machine because it is easy on my knees and I can move at a good pace. It helps me build up a good sweat. But I have been incorporating the exercise bike, the treadmill and tonight I tried the stair climber for the first time. That thing is very different and I really didn't like it. I think that it was mainly because it was something totally different for me but it wasn't comfortable. Now, I did feel a sweat coming on fairly quickly but I got off that after just a couple of minutes and went to the bike. Plus, since I am not seeing the results from my diet that I was hoping for, tonight I eat pretty bad to blow my system out of whack so it would respond better to my diet tomorrow.

Plus, I have still been doing my weight and strength training. Yesterday, I did a light workout on my legs. I have tried to avoid working out my legs (other than cardio) ever since my surgery. But I have been lazy and stupid about it long enough and decided that it is time that I try to strengthen the muscles up in my knee. Tonight was a good night too. I worked out my chest and I was feeling pretty good. I was able to lift more weight than I have for a little over a year. I haven't got all of my old strength back but it is getting there. And what I like about it is that I am finally lifting more than my weight is again. That makes me feel better. Now, I want to be able to do what I did before. I was getting close to being able to bench double my bodyweight at one point. I weighed 175 and I benched a little over 300. I was within 50 pounds of doubling up and that is when I messed up my shoulder and it has been all down hill since. Now it is coming back up.

OK! There is my story. Who is next? Someone needs to let us know what is going on. This is '08!!! Are we going to make it GREAT or are we going to "slide by"?

Bryan

Hey all!
Great job on staying motivated Bryan!
Lifting twice your weight is a great goal, but do it
slow so you won't get hurt again. I'm back on goal
for eating well. I cheated a lot last week, but I never
really "diet", I just try to eat well, so I'm not that upset
with myself. (Those Trader Joe's mint cookies were really
really good though;) )
I'm trying to decide for next year if I'm going to do the 1/2 and
5k again or go all out and do the 5k and the Goofy.
I held up really well after the 1/2 and even walked back to the
BCV after running, but my knee was a bit sore. It's the same
knee I broke as a kid, so I'm not sure how 3 days of running
will do. The Goofy fills up quick so I've got about another
week or two to decide... hmmmm decisions, decisions.
Hope everyone is doing well, please post and check in:goodvibes
Here's some pics from the 1/2 and 5k

I really hope I can make it. Ive already lost about 5 lbs so I am quite excited.

HI I just came across this site, and would like to join
in if its not to late.

I am trying to lose ohhhh about 55lbs or so.
I am going to WDW end of April/May, and would
like to lose some weight:laughing:

Hi everyone! Welcome redwingfan3991, MunkyMe13 and mystic_path!! :yay: :cheer2: We're thrilled to have you here and together, we can help each other reach our goals!! You're already on the right track! With all your trips coming up, you've got terrific motivation to keep going. Keep coming back here as we'd love to hear how you're progressing!

Twotoohappy - WOW! Thanks so much for sharing your marathon adventure with us. WAY TO GO!!! Talk about inspiring! You're on fire and are already talking about doing it again???? Wow! I'd love to try something like that, but dh doesn't want any of our vacation time to be spent on running. haha I'll hopefully do a 10km this spring in our area and will just pretend I'm in Disney! Congratulations again!! You can just see your excitement in your pics!

Bubba - I'm sooo glad to hear you're doing better! Your routine back at the gym sounds like a good one. Keep up the great work and best wishes on the food front too!

I've been MIA b/c I've had a bit of a rough week emotionally. Lots of family struggles happened last week, but things seem to be looking up now. Unfortunately I completely fell off the wagon food and exercisewise last week. I truly am an emotional eater and I just couldn't break myself from the funk until today. For some reason I'm feeling like a new woman today and am right back to exercising and eating well. It's amazing how much better you feel about yourself when you take care of your body. I just wanted to explain why I was away for a few days. Hopefully I'm back in full swing until our trip in two weeks!

Here's to a healthy and happy week for everyone! :thumbsup2
