Dieting for Disney

WOW. Who knew I wasn't alone. I too set a goal for myself over the weekend to lose 20 pounds before my October trip and then what do I do? Come in to work and see that the lunch special is chicken fried chicken and I caved. So glad to find this group so now I can find the support to say no to myself. I will just keep saying fried stuff has got to go over and over :( Beyond the 20 pounds I just want to tone up the old bod. As all of you who have had one or two or more kids know stuff just doesn't end up in the same place as pre baby. I sure would like to have the devotion to help put it back where it was. My plan is to keep a food diary, give up soda (very hard with my six pack a day habit), drink tons of water and excercise four times a week for at least 1/2 hour. I too want to feel better in a bathing suit. I go despite how I feel but wouldn't it be great to feel like everyone wasn't staring at you?

At almost 5 ft 9" with a starting weight of 200, I hope that's reasonable. I've already lost 9 lbs this year, but my weakness is the sweet stuff, ESPECIALLY chocolate.

I agree with the other poster that said don't eliminate your chocolate. I would say use it as a motivator. Set yourself a goal to obtain and then when you reach it, indulge with a little bit of chocolate. Tell yourself once you take off 5 pounds, you can have some chocolate ice cream. If you go and cut out everything that you crave, then all you are going to do is crave. Then, when you do cave in and take a bite, you won't be able to stop. That is why most diets fail. People feel like it has to be all or nothing and that is not the case. Take my diet for example. I may be a little more strict than some but I will give myself a cheat day once every 2 weeks. I had my day yesterday when I ate a piece of pizza. I would also suggest to eat more protein (grilled meats, fish, poultry and eggs). I would also say to cut back on dairy products. I saw an interview with Dorothy Hamill years ago and she was talking to the female interviewer and asked if she ate cheese a lot. The lady said, "Yes! Why do you ask?" Dorothy Hamill said that she could tell because dairy has a very high tendency to go to a females hips. Once I told my own mother about this, she has cut down on her dairy intake out of her respect for Dorothy's knowledge of the subject. Stay motivated, eat healthy and don't forget, we are all behind you 1000%.

MY ELIPTICAL CAME TODAY! I am so excited. I started putting it together right away, it took me about an hour and a half. I worked out for about 5 minutes and it was really hard. Then I realized I was doing ROLLING HILLS! Well I should have read the directions better! I really like it, I think the workouts are going to be just the thing I need to jump start me losing again. I am glad I spent the extra money and got a good one. It doesn't move around or make noise. It is very smooth and has alot of programs. It also came with the heart rate monitor you wear on your chest along with the pulse handle bars. I think I am going to have to build up my time one it though, I am going to start with 5 minutes and add 5 minutes every couple of days or a week. Wow, I am so excited! I was getting a little depressed because I stopped losing. I guess we all go through this, but it is hard to take when you are following the program and nothing is happening. Well I start a new today, wish me luck! :woohoo:

Does anyone have any updates? I would love to hear how everyone is doing on their progress. Just for my part, I would like to say that I have finally started seeing some results on the scale. My first 3 pounds have finally came off. It's funny that my clothes are getting looser but I am just now starting to see a weight difference on the scale. Please report. We all could stand some good news and motivation.

Okay i'm ready to join! hi there everyone! I just had a baby in December and am used to being a normal weight person, but i gained ALOT of weight with my BIG boy! so i'm in need of losing 56 pounds that just aren't going anywhere. I go the WORLD in November the day ofter Thanksgiving. I have started walking on the treadmill for an hour a day, but with the baby up all night it's hard to find a time to go lately...i know NO excuses! so i am going to buckle down on that. Next i need to start eating right. I need help with this. I live with the I CAN EAT ANYTHING AND NEVER GAIN A POUND husband and he buys all kinds of junk that just make my mouth water.....girl scout cookies, ice cream, junk junk junk.....i need HELP! how can i turn my head from the yummies???

Thanks for starting this thread, i am going to start a food journal tomorrow and up my water intake...i am promising myself to post everyday on whether i made it to the gym or not...okay here i go jumpng into weightloss!!

My weight isn't exactly melting off, but I remain committed to the exercise. I am lucky to have a busy but flexible schedule. I have made myself go walk 1.5-3 miles per day since 2/20. I am so glad I have done this. So far I have walked 14 miles and lost 3 pounds. I feel much better and look forward to increased benefits

Oh I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one!!! :thumbsup2 I was very successful in losing about 20lbs last year before my disney trip, I did it in two months and was pretty sensible. Now I'm really having issues though, I've had a very long and stressful winter and I've packed quite a few pounds back on. I just started a new diet and excercise regimen on Monday and this time it's even more important because not only do I have our Disney trip (honeymoon) but also my wedding to lose weight by. I'm hoping to lose between 25-35lbs, and though I know I can do it, I get nervous because I used to have a lot of eating issues throughout my youth. I've been at a healthy (not too thin weight) for about 3 years now, thanks to much help from my DF. The thing is if I start to be too engrossed with my weight this little fear comes into my mind that I may slip back into old habits. I'm sorry for the silly rant, it seems a little OT now :confused3 . Thanks for listening and I am so happy for all of you that are finding positive ways to a healthier lifestyle :goodvibes .

I am really happy with my progress. Since the first of January, I have lost 14 pounds. I was at Disney World in mid-February, and had gained 3 pounds (mmmm, Zebra Domes....), but that weight has come back off, along with a few more. Even better, I have lost a total 3 inches from my waist and 3 inches from my hips!
The most important thing for me is to keep within my calorie range (1200 to 1500 per day), increase the activity and exercise in my life, and keep track of what I'm eating and that I'm getting the proper amount of nutrients (it's easy at SparkPeople.com).
One of the other reasons I think that I'm enjoying this success is, I have completely eliminated any negative self-talk during this weight loss process. Some of you may know what I mean ... In the past, during weight loss attempts, I used to think things like "oh, I was bad today and ate (fill in the blank)", or "I feel so guilty that I didn't exercise today", or "I can't believe I cheated on my diet". This time, I just don't have those negative thoughts. I don't even use the words "bad" or "cheat" or "guilty". Instead, I focus on what success I have achieved so far, repeat the word "patience" to myself when necessary, and if I make poor choices one day, I just make better choices the next day.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Ok, so here I am, eating pancakes and hot cocoa and a good hundred pounds over my "ideal" body weight. Yuck, its sucks when you see that in black in white. Ouch....How hard is it to lose 100 lbs?
Thanks guys. Guess I should really go put on my exercise clothes and get on the bike this morning. But its so hard to workout when you stay at home with a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old and all they do is get under your feet. I can't do the gazelle with them up because they like to stand in front of it and I could so see myself hitting one of them...no matter how many times I yell at them to get away. Then the bike....they like to stand in front of the petals. I usually pick one up and put them in my lap...they like that...but then the other gets jealous and it ruins the whole workout.
Ok, so I need to lose between 75-100 lbs in the next 21 mths before our trip.
Here's my main problems:
1. Can't go to the gym....can't afford the childcare AND membership
2. LOVE chocolate :worship:
3. I'm really lazy
4. (this one is really stupid I know) I'm terrified of dogs...so putting the kids in the stroller and going for a walk is not a good option for me
Well, Kudos' for all of you who have lost weight. Congrats from the bottom of my heart. I know how happy I get when I lose even 5 lbs.
Guess I'll whip out my food journal again. Haven't wrote in it since January when I was on my New Years Kick (lasted a whole 2 wks)!

I am so glad to see this thread. I have been dieting since Jan.1 and have lost 21 pounds. I can see a difference pretty much everywhere except in my stomach which is where I need to lose it the most. I walk on the treadmill or ride the recumbant bike everyday until I work off 300 to 400 calories. I eat about 1300 to 1400 calories a day. My question is do any of you have an ideas on what would help with this area. I just bought the Core workout set and I do situps about 3 times a week. Any ideas?

Congratulations to everyones success so far. My trip is in Aug. and I really want to look nice in a bathing suit.

This is an awesome thread! I am just subscribing.

I have lost 40+ lbs since the beginning of August using the WW points system. I LOVE it because it isn't really like a diet, but a lifestyle and I am not suffering!! I highly recommend it, really. In that time, I have taken 2 vacations and gained a bit, but lost it when I got home and back on the points.

I gained 69 pounds with my third pregnancy, dropped about 1/2 and then gained it back plus some over the 5 years she was home with me before Kgarden.

I was one that walked on the treadmill 45 minutes 4 to 5 times a week fast and at a high incline for years! It did no good because calories going in just upped, too! ;) With the WW points, I can eat everything - including chocolate, just less and it works. I don't stick to a regular exercise schedule, either. Just my everyday life.

For a special chocolate treat that only has 3 WW points they make a low carb Reeses Peanut Butter cup (double pack) and it is GOOD!! That hits the spot for me, or those triple chocolate merange cookies (I buy them at Target) they are 2 points for 4 cookies and they're YUMMY! Also micro popcorn with white chedder sprinkled on it (I ordered from Kernal Seasons website) is so good for those salt cravings and very low points, too - good for any diet.

Good luck, everybody!

Hi everyone!

It's so good that there is a lot of people trying to loose some weight! I started in Sept 2005 (ironically) AFTER my Disney/Universal trip. After I saw (without the eximent of the trip and relax in my home) my trip pictures, I felt awful...So, For my b-day (Aug27th) I enrolled in a nutritional program. They tought me how to eat everything but with care. They prepared a "portions" table (3oz of white meat, 1cup rice or mashed potatoes, etc) acording to how many weight I wanted to loose. My goal is go from 178.2lbs to 135lbs. and after 5months (ups and downs) I' just 3lbs away!!!! :hyper:

The good thing about this nutricional plan (prepared by a Certified nutricionist) is that everything on my diet are things that I could buy at any supermarket or convinience store. No "specials" frozen foods, etc. I just have to be careful about the sodium, fat and sugars in the products I buy and measure everything. And be careful about the ones marked as light because sometimes they're light in something but HIGH in others.

As somebody said in one of the threads, the healthy way to loose some weight is lossing 1.5 to 2 lbs per week. Looking it that way, is easier that seeing that you need to loose 30lbs. Small goals helps you keep going without feeling overwelm. This kind of "diet" (never felt like one) worked for me...and more than a Diet is a new way of living...So no matter how much you need to loose if you really want it GO FOR IT. The initial "sacrifice" (Gym, no LOTS of Chocolate, etc.) is worth the feeling of buying new cloths and enjoying a NEW YOU......AND A WONDERFUL TRIP!!!!! If you need any support, you can COUNT ON ME ALWAYS!!!!!

Happy "Dieting"!! :hyper:

PS. Sorry if thread is long... ;)

I started Weight Watchers 6 weeks ago and I have lost over 18 pounds already. I am not dieting specifically for my upcoming trip to WDW, but I am excited to be going after/while losing my excess weight. I hope to lose a lot more! (before and after my trip in two weeks)

Just wanted to point out that "32" is certainly attainable in a healthy way by losing 2 pounds a week for 16 weeks. Your advice to lose "15" is also just as attainable and safe while only losing 1 pound a week. I think there is a good range of what is a healthy way or amount to lose. For the last 6 weeks I have lost more than 2 pounds a week, and have done it in a very healthy and sustainable way. I think it just depends on your body, how much fat you have to lose, etc. I mean, if you only have 15 to lose, it's actually much harder to lose those 15 pounds, than losing 15 if you are actually say, 60 pounds overweight. JMHO.

Good luck everyone!

It really depends on the person. I have been on weight watchers for 6 weeks and have only lost 4.5 pounds.
I usually only lose like .5 pounds to 1 pound and I exercise every day too and only use half my extra points. Some people just lose slower. I think 15 pounds would be a more attainable goal and then they wouldn't feel like a failure when they failed to lose 32 pounds. Also, the heavier you are the more pounds you lose to start with (usually a lot of water weight).
Good luck!

I can totally relate to you. My husband is naturally tall and lean and he can eat anything and actually struggles to gain weight. I wore a size 4 before I got pregnant. Now I wear closer to a 14 and my son is 18 months old. I gained 85 pounds when I was pregnant!!!! My husband, on the other hand, LOST 10 pounds during my pregnancy!!!!! I just told my husband if he wants pizza, burgers, etc. he can have all he wants but he can't bring it into our house and he agrees because he wants to live :teeth:
I also try to cook healthy meals a lot because he is lazy after work and I know that if I fix it he will eat it because he is too tired to go out and get junk to eat.

Okay, you made a list of reason why you CANNOT exercise. Now, make a list of reasons why you SHOULD and CAN exercise. Ie. I can't affor to go the gym, BUT....I CAN use exercise tapes while my kids nap/are at school/ etc.
Ie. I'm really lazy BUT exercise will give me energy and help me to not be lazy anymore.
Good luck. I really think that exercise is so important not just for body but for mind as well. Gotta get those endorphins going! :Pinkbounc

CrnFlkGrl--> thanks so much for posting as i was just too ashamed to write the numbers down, but i too gained just under 80 pounds with my boy. i've lost 30 hence the 50 still to go. I can't stand the way i look and that's my motivation. i'm too small for my maternity clothes and too big for my old clothes, and i don't want to spend the $$ on new clothes in a size i don't want to be!! so this too is motivation, i mean i'm a clothes horse so if i have nothing cute to wear i will be more inclined to lose the weight...right?

Thanks for the advice about cooking the meals, i've noticed that when i cook he too sits and eats and that's the end, but if i don't make dinner he runs out to get FF or makes something just full of fat cause it's easy and quick. Now i just gotta make time to get dinner done every night and keep the kids out of my way :) where there is a will there is a way....alright here i go!!

Today i have had 26oz of my 64oz of water!! for breakfast a yogurt cup and for lunch this afternoon i had a plain salad, just lettuce and a little crumble of cheese :) Dinner, got to think about it now...

An important thing to remember while trying to lose weight .... do not take in so few calories that your body thinks it's going into starvation mode. Your body will fight to keep the weight on if you do not nourish it enough. Always try to eat at least 1,200 calories every day.

Well I completely fell off of the wagon this weekend. We were at an indoor waterpark for the weekend with another family and for the most part we just sat around by the pool and ate. I am so glad to have found this thread again -- this will help make sure that I stick to being good and get back to Curves!!

hahaha, I love you crnflkgirl.......
Ok, so here's what I did this morning.....(you'll be proud)
Downloaded a bunch of techno (not really a fan but it does get you in the mood to MOVE) and danced around the house. The kids thought it was great and my lil girl even tried to mimic me which had me :rotfl2: and my lil boy just clapped and laughed and was tripping over himself as he chased me around the house. It also got me to clean the house...which it sadly needed!
I even got on the bike when I was done....since I'm outta shape I only did about 15 mins but burned 500 calories :hyper:
So, I wrote in my food journal... :scared: whoa...as much as i need it, I hate portion control its like a 3rd of my normal plate :confused3 But I know it will take a week or two to shrink my stomach to the point that I won't feel like I'm starving. And I absolutely hate water....so made some caffine free splenda sweetened tea...and that definitely helps take the edge off hunger.
But, I have workout tapes...almost all the ones out there. I get so excited when I see an infomercial I buy it. My favorate is Billy's Boot Camp...but wow that hurts. And I hate yoga...thats for skinny people who just need to tone. My jiggles get in the way of all those bends and poses :rotfl:
Well, off to get jiggy around the house again. Thank God my kids are my only audience...I so can't dance but its fun and it gets my heart rate up!

Miss Jenni--> your post made me laugh!

Okay dinner is in the oven and we are on our way :) steamed veggies with a pork tenderloin in a slight lemon juice sauce for taste....It smells good!

i too cleaned house until i couldn't move anymore, boy those tub crayons sure do make a mess when it's time to clean them up! i had to scrub and scrub!!
