Dieting for Disney

Greetings everyone. Wait a minute! That sounds way to serious. Let's try this again. How's it going everybody? I am going to try to keep this a little shorter than usual. I have to get to work real early in the morning so I need to get to bed. But nevertheless, I feel the need to share with all of you.

thelionqueen - The picture of you and your kids is fabulous. It is obvious to me that you are a very happy family and when you have that, you have riches more than what money could ever provide. You are truly turning into my inspiration. I was thinking about you and your determination with your training and diet while I was at the gym tonight and pushed myself harder than I had in a long time. I did more ab work and more cardio than I had been doing and the amazing thing is, I want to do more. I know. I am a freak! :scared:

teacher - Your total weight loss to this point is fantastic. I am proud of you and your determination for achieving your goals. You know that goals do come in many different forms. It may be getting into a smaller bathing suit. It could be just trying to be healthier and more fit. Some, like me, just want to have more definition. Whatever your goal is, make sure you stay focused and you will obtain it. You're doing wonderful. We are all behind you.

thelionqueen had made a statement last week about a challenge. We want to see if we can loose 100 pounds as a group. Well, I believe we have already reached that goal. This is the beginning of a new month so let's go ahead and tally up our totals. I will try to keep a running total and will let you know what our totals are by the end of the week. I will be first. As of tonight while I was at the gym, I have lost a total of 17 pounds. That is two more than what my original goal was and only 5 away from what my secondary goal is. :woohoo: :cheer2: Who else wants to join in?

OK! I know I said I was going to keep this short and apparently I failed miserably. Please forgive me. I just really get so excited talking to everyone on this thread and I have a passion about anyone who wants a healthy living and exercise, sometimes I just can't help myself. Oh well, life will go on. I still have to say that you are all wonderful and doing a fantastic job. You motivate me and I can tell that you are motivating each other. That was the whole point of this thread and it does my heart good to know that it is working.

Keep up the fantastic work!! :cheer2: :woohoo: :cloud9:

Could I get all your opinions on this scenario: when I go to our local gym to work-out I usually am there an hour (solid). 30 minutes of strength training and 30 minutes of cardio. Some days I am so busy with work/family I cannot do one full hour so "I throw in the towel" and don't even go! I have this feeling in my head :guilty: that if I cannot do one full hour there is NO POINT IN EVEN GOING....someone please convince me that even 30 minutes of a workout will do me some good....PLEASEEEE!

Today was an example. I only got in 35 minutes of cardio and then I had an early dentist appt and then off to work. I am sitting here thinking WHAT GOOD WAS ALL THAT SCRAMBLING AROUND THIS AM TO GET TO THE GYM FOR A MEASLY 35 MINUTES, I could have slept a little later and gone right to the dentist!

But then again on the flip side, I am glad I went even if I did not benefit from that workout OR DID I??? UGH!!! :confused3

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
What an AMAZING accomplishment and what a BEAUTIFUL ticker!! I am SO jealous and SO happy for you all at the same time. WAY TO GO!! :thumbsup2 I cannot tell you how wonderful that is, and I am just so happy for you...AWESOME :woohoo:

Momrek06...Welcome to our dandy little (and getting littler) group. I used to do the EXACT same thing and wonder the same as you. Some days I just cannot do the full workout I'd like to, life interferes..darn it :lmao: If I can only go for 30 minutes, I still do whatever I need to to get there. Here is my thinking..

1. If I don't go at all, I will feel like I failed myself somehow, then, since I'm already a failure in my eyes, it lures me to cheat. I think, if I didn't workout, then this huge plate of spaghetti isn't going to matter..don't ask, that's just how I used to think sometimes.

2. Even if I only go for a half hour, I accomplished a goal. Albeit not the ultimate goal I wanted, but I did it, therefore I feel great.

3. If I can only do a short workout, I really work hard and only do cardio. Then I feel as if I accomplished more.
Last thought, any workout is better than no workout. Hope that helps.

Bubba...WOW!! :worship: :worship: You are doing so completely amazing and you are also a big part of my inspiration as well. Your dedication is truly inspiring to me and all the rest of us on this thread. You are so dedicated and committed to this it is truly awe inspiring!

Thank you all for your kind words I really appreciate them. I thought you might want to put a face (albeit a fat face, but not so much anymore) with my name. Don't look much like a Lionqueen do I? :lmao: Anyway, I am truly blessed with a fabulous husband and family and you are right, I am truly lucky. I've been married for 8 years (together 12) and we still act like newlyweds. It's very annoying to our close friends, trust me :rotfl: Anyway, my husband has always been with me when I was overweight, I cannot wait to give him a smaller and healthier wife, he so deserves it (me too).

COUNT ME IN on the April weight loss tally Bubba. However, I am committed to staying off the scale as much as possible, so I will give you my April weight loss on Monday. This is very tough for me to stay off the scale, but it must be done. I think we can lose 50-75lbs this month easy, what do you all think?

Anyway, I am exhausted. I did my full 90 min. workout, lap swim for 40mins and walked 1.5miles to and from picking son up from school. I'm just a movin' freak I guess :) I need to rest. Sorry for the long posts, but I'm a former Exec.Secretary and I can type well over 110wpm. My Stephen King post is now complete, thank you all for your kind patience and AMAZING encouragement!! :yay:

Thelionqueen, :goodvibes

TO: TheLionQueen:

:thanks: :thanks: :thanks: For the encouraging words. You ROCK and tomorrow despite another hectic day...(ugh)...I will "hook or by crook" be at that gym, going strong IF only for 35 minutes.

I started this routine of going to the gym for one solid hour AND I need to sweat...and if I am NOT there for 60 mins or more AND I am NOT sweating THEN I think I have accomplished NOTHING. The games we play in our mind (or at least my mind)!!

I love reading this Thread. I love reading everyone's stories and accomplishments.

:woohoo:

I'd like to join in, too! We are headed to Disney in the first week of June. I would seriously like to lose some weight before then. I started my eat/live healthier program on March 13th. I recommitted (after nachos at Ruby Tuesday's  ) on March 28th--I have lost 9.5 pounds total. I am up 1.5 pounds today due to TOM--not happy about that! :sad2: Even though I know the reason for it, I still hate to see it on the scale! Oh well, maybe that 1.5 will disappear soon!

My goal is to lose another 8-10 pounds before our vacation. I know that might be a stretch, but I am getting in 45-60 minutes of exercise a day and following my Weight Watchers points. I will be excited with any loss by that point! Thanks for such a motivational thread! :yay:

Holy Cow!! With all of the new entries today, I don't know where to begin. Between the entries of Stitch, lionqueen, Momrek and silverangel - anything that I could add would either sound redundant or insignificant. But you know by now that I do have a gift for gab :lmao: so I am going to add my 2 cents anyway.

Silverangel - I am totally amazed by your successful venture. Not only have you shown all of us (the ones that attend this thread) and yourself what you can do but you have shown all of your friends, family and anyone else that you come in contact with. You are an inspiration to all of us on this thread. My only advice to you for your next step is to take what you have learned and not only to continue to apply it to your life on a daily basis but take it and share your knowledge. There are so many who need your knowledge that you probably come in contact with everyday. You never know what kind of influence your words and your actions can have on others. I think you are fantastic. Keep going strong!! :cheer2:

Stitch - Welcome to our humble abode. I hope you continue to find it warm and inviting as well as informative and inspirational. We all have struggles during any kind of change. If it is a new job or a new diet, there will always be a little bit of apprehension and even some stress. But through hard work and dedication, you can succeed and meet your goals. Now, you are talking about loosing 10 pounds in less than 8 weeks. As long as you average 1.5 pounds a week, you will even surpass your goal. You wrote down that you try to exercise 45 - 60 min a day. That is great. Being active is always your first step but if you will allow me to, I would like to take a look at what kind of exercises are you doing. If you prefer, you are more than welcomed to PM me with your regime. Every once in a while, we all need some fine tuning in our routine to be able to achieve our goals. If you want to share with the rest of the group, you may be able to get several different opinions and go with whatever you think will best suit you. We all are here to help anyway we can. Good luck and here is best wishes for continued success.

Momrek - I know exactly what you mean about not always having the amount of time at the gym that you would like to have everytime you go. But as lionqueen has stated, getting to the gym for any amout of time is always better than just saying that you can't spend an hour so why should you go. Here is a little suggestion that really works for me when I am in a time crunch. When you don't have much time, increase your intensity. A lot of the time, we will spend an hour in the gym but only do 35 or 40 minutes worth of exercise. Why is that? Well, it is because we want to be sociable with those that we see. Instead, when you are on a time schedule, lay out your plan of attack as you are driving to the gym. As soon as you get there, hit whatever you are going to do. There was a time when I did a back and legs workout with absolutely NO breaks inbetween sets. I did an exercise for my back and then went straight to my legs. I was able to get my workout done in about 25 minutes while keeping my heart rate up the whole time. The intensity level was so high that by the time I was done, I was sweating so much that I felt like I had just done 5 miles on the treadmill. Just a thought. I really hope that helps.

lionqueen - What can I say to you that I haven't already said to you? Words typed up on a computer screen can't express the way your words keep me motivated. I have never had anyone that has been able to totally inspire me to work harder and diet harder than you have. If your words weren't so motivating to me, I would think that you had cast a spell on me. :worship: :worship: All I can hope for is that I have been able to give you the same amount of encouragement.

I am still looking for the tallys (?) from everyone. I would like to do a total of what everyone has lost (if you can remember) from when we started this thread. After that, we will do what lionqueen has suggested and do one for the month of April. So if you can, if you don't mind, plese send in those totals from your last weigh in.

Thanks everyone! You are all amazing :cheer2: :woohoo: :grouphug:
Have a wonderful day!!!

Here is a picture of me before I started my diet and exercise almost 7 years ago. FYI - my kids in this picture are 5 and 3 and yes, it was their first trip.

Thank you so much Bubba73 as well for your kind words. :teeth: I am so glad I jumped in on this Thread. It appears that everyone here is going to make this job of losing weight and keeping if off very rewarding. :teeth: I love reading what everyone posts about their daily scheduled workouts or diets (whether or not they had a good day or a bad day)!!! Some days are more difficult than others but to have a forum to come to and vent or rave is so awesome! :teeth:
Bubba: The picture with the babes is PRICELESS. Just look at their expressions in that picture with the Castle in the background..FABULOUS!!!
Bubba: you are so right about sticking to the "reason I am there"...actually TODAY (due to the dentist before work) I did exactly what you suggested (great minds think alike) and literally ran into the locker room, hung up my coat, threw the IPOD earbuds in my ears and walked with determination and that (silent message) that I was not there to chat and got on the treadmill and pumped it up for 30 mins and 5 cool. I would have LOVED to have stayed longer but could not. SO, I will keep that in mind...that social factor.
Also, I noticed that when I do my strength training exercises my heart feels like it is beating out of my chest...ugh...but that is basically because I am so weak in upper body and need to get that stronger. My legs are fine due to my treadmill workoute. Need to get the upper body stronger. Diet: basically trying desperately NOTHING after 7pm. Maybe a few carrot sticks, raisins, cup of tea, banana, pear....both DH and I need this. His cholestrol needs to come down (238) to at least 200 (MD told him) and his weight as well. DH needs about 20 lbs easily. UGH....this IS a daily challenge but a LIFESTYLE CHANGE for us BOTH!!!

ANYWAY, thanks for all the nice comments and welcoming me aboard this THREAD!!! :thanks:

To STITCH :welcome:

:jumping1: This is me at the GYM!!!!

I am starting to get disgcouraged because I haven't lost any weight! :rolleyes2 I have gained 2.5 pounds!! :furious: I do feel better and can see muscle on my arms, my flab fat around my ribs is gone but I still have a stomach. I have changed my eating, drinking, and total living. I have been walking at the gym a little over a month and been doing my class for 2 weeks. How long til I will see results. :confused3 Others in my class have lost 10, 8 and even 17 pounds. The one that lost 17 is heavier and has done a colon cleanse...

Momrek06 - THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! ...Like I said to Thelionqueen, i'm looking foward to hear YOUR GOAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!! So Keep GOING! :cheer2:...

bubba - Thanks for those beautiful words, they really make me realize that I can be a motivation and example to others...and I WANT TO!!! Thanks again for all your support to us in this thread...Thank You!!!:thanks:

To all of you out there...You are capable of reach this goal! It's hard, and could be painful but NOT IMPOSIBLE!!! :cheer2: I'll be here for anything i can help...so don't hesitated in contact me... :goodvibes ...Here it goes a group hug for recharge energy... :grouphug: .....ok, not enough? Here is another one... :grouphug: ....There is...(i like hugs)...hehe

HAVE A NICE DIETING! :goodvibes

Pluto'shoney...1st thing is do not get discouraged!! What you are doing is the right thing, however, the results will not show on the scale for awhile. Trust me, I know exactly what you are going through. Seriously, I work out 5-7 times per week 60mins cardio 30 mins weights and swim and walk. I did this for 5 weeks solid and gained 2 lbs!! I was so discouraged! I could also tell the weight loss in my pants and my body was becoming more toned, but that scale was what I was wanting to see results on.

Here is the truth...your body is gaining muscle. Your body is turning the most available fat into lean muscle, thus, you're not losing the fat weight, just the fat composition...does that make sense? Your fat is turning into muscle, and it will take a little while for your excess fat to be burned. However, you are losing! You are losing fat, which is really why we're all doing this right?

Now, coming from me this is a little contradictory, but stay off the scale. Use a measuring tape once per week and that is it. I used to weigh myself every single day (STUPID) and get discouraged. Your weight involves so many processes, it is really dumb to get on the scale as much as I did. You could be retaining water, you could be weighing at the wrong time, etc. The real solution is to stay off the scale! What I am doing now, is I bought a pair of pants 2 months ago that didn't fit at all. I tried them on every week to see my progress. This works much better than than darn scale. BTW, those pants fit now, so I have another pair that is my "goal pants" I hope that helps. DON'T GIVE UP, you results will show, just stick in there.

Bubba...what a beautiful family! Our families 1st WDW picture is also in front of the castle. Your kids are beautiful as is your wife and you all look very happy. All I can say is WOW, you've really lost a lot of weight! From your 2 pictures it is very clear that you really trimming up..AWESOME!! You'll need to be real trim to chase and play with those kids :thumbsup2 GREAT JOB!! Keep up the good work. It's great to put a face with a name, thanks for posting!

I'm going to give my weight loss as of 4/1/06..I've lost 23lbs. I started dieting 1/21/06, so this is my total weight loss. I will post additional pounds above this when I weigh next, so we can track April weight loss. I think we should also track inches, so that those of us who lose slowly can track body progress as well..whattya think? Oh well, no workout for me today, I have other running to do. Have a great day all!!

What can I add to what lionqueen as already said? You are gaining muscle weight. You are loosing bodyfat so you are succeeding even if you don't see it on the scales. Let's see if we can change our routine a little to turn it into more of a fat burning routine instead of a bulking up routine. Let's try higher reps with lower weights and more intensity when you are walking. Increase your speed and focus and you will start to see the weight loss that you desire. It does take time and dedication but you need to be strong. We will all be here with you :grouphug: and :cheer2: you along the way.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

WOW Bubba: Great idea about less weight and more reps..love that...never thought of that before.
At the gym bright and early..now find myself thinking of you guys all on the DIS giving me ambition to get THERE and do my workout to the best of my ability. Today I did strength training 25 mins and 45 mins on the treadmill. I feel great and now for some lunch. Protein. Important. And maybe a banana as well!!! :teeth:

Yes, and I think I will take my measurements as well. I do NOT do the scale, that to me is a no no! It looks all pretty in my bathroom sitting there digital and all BUT naaa, not my friend! :sad2: My goal is to put on a bathing suit this summer. DH & I cruised the WONDER in Feb and no, NO suit for me on CC!! I was more comfortable in shorts and T, than a suit...ugh...my own issues I think. I have a real self-esteem issue. But I am dealing with that daily.

Okay I have to get back to work, we are so busy, some days are longer than others...but it is this time of year that we are out straight. Thanks for listening

Okay. I'm feeling horrible. Went to dinner last night and had a chicken wrap with, oh no, french fries! They weren't the greasy type (saying that makes me feel better), but here's the deal. I noticed within 2 hours my feet were puffy & I was so thirsty. I'm assuming it's all of the salt. I've gone through 64 ounces of water already today but I made the mistake of doing my weekly weigh in. It says I'm up 1 pound. Now, I know fries won't make me gain one pound, but how much do you think the salt will mess with me? Any thoughts??? Just kicking myself, but I've gotten somewhat over it and am back on the good choice horse.

I always looked at something like this as IN THE PAST, OVER AND DONE, and FORGE AHEAD TO A BRIGHT NEW BEAUTIFUL NEW MORNING (hahaha a little CofP from Tomorrow land)....
So you did it, so now move on and UPWARD and try to put it behind you and think about trying to make the very best of the next time you go out to eat!!!
I am not good with the salt and retention thing but I have heard that salt retains fluids in your system. I am a lover of snack foods..i.e. chips, fritos, tostitos etc etc all the salty foods as vs. cakes and brownies and ice cream. Give me a bag of fritos and they are HISTORY in a manner of time. Cookies and cakes and brownies naaa but that is the SALT thing again. BAD NEWS for me!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Here are three cheers for your continued success and moving on and UP!!!

teacher31 - So what that you ate the wrap and fries. You indulged a little and now it is time to get back on your original plan and stay focused. It is like that other thread about whether or not to have a cheat day. It's ok to cheat every once in a while. That is what helps keep you on your regular diet. The reason it works that way is that if you allow yourself a "cheat" day once in a while that will help eliminate cravings for all of the junk. Otherwise, if you quit cold turkey, then when you do cheat, you will continue to cheat. As far as why did you have that 1 pound gain, you are more right than you know. Salt and sodium is a major factor in your weight. It makes you retain water. It will also make your feet puffy. I know right now when I eat anything with a lot of sodium, I can feel my face getting red from the salt but then again we all re-act differently. I hope that helps some anyway.

momrek - I know about the self esteem issues. I had something happen to me almost 20 years ago while I was still in school and I have never been able to get over it. I have never been what you would call obese but I have always been overweight. Well, I was just walking down the hallway inbetween classes and just said "Hey!" to one of the "pretty" girls at school. Her response to me was, "Shut up, Fatso!". I have never been able to get over that. I still can't talk to any of the pretty girls face to face. I can talk to anyone on the computer but face to face, I am a nervous wreck. The bad thing is I work in retail and I naturally come in contact with this sort of thing everyday. But I have turned this into my motivation. Thinking about what she said makes me work harder and try harder on a daily basis. That is also one of the reasons why I am strict on my diet. The point is to not let any negativity get to you at all. Take anything that is put in front of you and turn it in to a positive. :thumbsup2 :sunny: :cheer2: :grouphug: :cloud9: :woohoo:

I hope you are all having a great week. Everyone of you are my motivation, my inspiration and I would also like to be able to call you my friends. Remember a couple of very key points. 1) You are all winners and deserve all of your success. 2) Don't let anyone or anything get you down. 3) Stay positive and focused! By the time you get done and you reach your goals, you will be so excited you will be able to :dancer: all the way to Disney.

Be well and stay motivated!!
Bubba

HEY WHERE IS EVERYBODY :worried: !!! I went to my gym on Friday and did my usual strength train and treadmill. I have been having some serious carpal pain with my hand so using the eliptical lately is painful and I really like that machine. OH WELL, planning a bone density test in next few months to get to the bottom of all this pain. I just like to switch things up from treadmill to eliptical from time to time. Maybe I will just try a few mins before switching to tread!!! :)

I got some new songs on my IPOD. I listen to all Broadway from Les Miz to Cats. Phantom is my all time FAV and Jesus Christ Superstar. :teeth:

Went to an Open House for good friend of DH & I that started her own Real Estate Business. There was soooo much food, I cannot even tell you and GUESS WHAT...only thing I had was 3 bowls of fruit salad...yup, my DH brought me over some brownie thing and I am sure I would have eaten it but noticed jelly in it and I do not like jelly in my brownie so I said naaaa :sad2: !!!

Our work week is so crazy and so many early days w/gym and then work I opted to sleep in ::yes:: and skip the gym ::yes:: and head over to the Open House. So it is back there to the gym tomorrow for SURE. ::yes::

BUBBA: Wow, what that girl said to you in school is beyond my commenting besides DAMN RUDE!!! Wow, what a snob, what a snot :snooty: and look at what it has done to you over the years with YOUR self-esteem. SHAME ON HER, SHAME! But what I ALWAYS say to my DS when I catch him not being the nicest boy...."I think you really are NOT happy with YOURSELF and so you say mean things to your brother hoping that he will feel bad about himself the way YOU really FEEL about yourself"....does that make sense to you...people that are RUDE to people, really have serious issues with themselves. YUP. It is true. I am no psychologist but I feel when you are mean or nasty to someone, ANYONE, that it is YOURSELF that you are ultimately the MOST unhappy with....hhhmmm...something to PONDER!!! :)
