Dietary restrictions

My mother is on a strict diabetic diet. Does anyone know if the restaurants (Ariel's in particular) would let her order something alacart rather than pay 30-40 dollars when she can only eat a really small amount and very few items?:confused3

I know there is a number some where around you can call, maybe call the dining number to find out who you might speak with, but most likely you can get an adjusted meal that works with her diet, if you talk to the chef. They usually can work something up, off menu. Otherwise she would still pay full price, if se sits with you.

Like fairycat said, they should be able to fix her something that is "diebetic friendly", especially if you let them know ahead of time. But in my experience they won't give a discount. My DS can only eat pureed foods and only eats a few ounces at each meal. We took him to WCT for the WOC dinner and we still had to pay full price for him even though he couldn't eat any of the food there.

However, we've been to the Big Thunder BBQ twice and explained our situation and we were not charged for DS. I think the difference is that we were getting tickets to WOC when we went to WCT and they were not willing to budge on that price. I don't know if you're planning on Ariels for WOC or for the princess meal but at least for WOC I would assume that she will have to pay full price. We've never taken DS to a character meal so I'm not sure about that. It also might depend on who is in charge that day. Different CMs might be more willing than others to make exceptions.

In general, if you have a character dining experience, they will not allow any price changes, no matter what. Other venues, however, are more willing to work with people.

so if she sits with us and chooses not to eat at a character meal then she will still have to pay?:confused3

The only one I am concerned about is Ariels breakfast because she will probably only be able to eat eggs because she cant eat any sort of pastry and maybe she can have a piece of bacon or sausage. I would hate to have her pay that much for a plate of eggs.

I will try to find that number and call before hand and see if anyone can help us out.

Thanks!:love::love:

We get this question frequently on the disABILITIES board. At least in WDW, the answer generally is that if you go to a character breakfast, you pay to be there. They generally do not allow changed rates because "I wont eat much" is very nebulous. The amount is different for everyone. The restrictions can be worked with in terms of types of food, but amount if difficult for them to tell.

I am not sure if it is holding true in DL, but that is what is reported for WDW.
