diet pills

When I conveyed my desperation to lose enough weight to donate part of my liver to my mom, (ugh, this is still so hard to type) my doctor carefully and painstakingly went over my whole medical history with me and finally ended up asking me if I'd like to try a prescription. I did, only for two months, and it *did* work to speed up the weight loss (I just wasn't hungry, never cared if I ever ate again, more than anything). However, I also accompanied the medicine with a change in my lifestyle; the way I eat, the amount I eat, and the amount and type of exercise I get are now radically different, and I couldn't be happier. Actually, I'd be a LOT happier if I'd been able to donate part of my liver and my mom would be alive today, but sadly that didn't work out. I've had lots of people tell me to keep going because that's what mom would want, so that's what I'm doing. :lovestruc

No pill is going to cause you to lose weight and keep it off and allow you to be healthy if that's all you do. And, I would never EVER take any kind of weight loss without the approval of my doctor. I'm very paranoid as it is; it took me a week to get up the nerve to actually take the stuff my doctor gave me!

There is a Dr in my town who has a weight loss clinic. They give you a prescription for phetermine (sp) and HCG shots. One shot per week, in the stomach. You can do it at home.

If there were safe pills ("safe" being the key word), we would not have an obesity epidemic in this country.. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of hard work; a lot of will power; exercise; better eating habits; and a pretty dramatic lifestyle change..

What makes it harder (and more frustrating) for some people, is that there are medications that they have to take on a daily basis for other health issues and many of them have "weight gain" (sometimes very significant amounts) that still won't be resolved - even if they do all of the above..:(

Best bet is to see what the doctor suggests and avoid pills at all costs..

I'm so sorry! :grouphug: I hadn't heard that's how it worked out :(:sad1:. And good for you for keeping it up! :goodvibes

Everything I have read about HCG, you have to take it daily or it doesn't work. But I haven't read about combining it with diet meds, in fact the founder says not to take anything, even OTC meds. I guess you would have to take life sustaining drugs. HCG is a hormone that allows you to do an extremely low calorie diet and your body is still nourishing itself through stored body fat being released into the blood. So it's not really a diet pill, just a way for your body to allow you to stop eating.
