Since we weren't going to use our passes for 7 months, we decided not to renew our DVC discounted annual passes until right before our trip in June. I realize that we lost the renewal discount but we can still get the DVC discount if it's not a renewal right? Also, does the annual pass renewal date start when we buy the passes (probably late May or early June) or when the passes are activated? We like to pay before we actually arrive at WDW, but if the annual date starts when the passes are activated, we'll wait until we get to WDW.

As your pass will be a new pass, not a renewal, your AP anniversary date will be 1 year from the date that the voucher, or will call, is redeemed for the actual pass.

Yes, you will receive the DVC discount of $100 off a new standard AP, or $125 off a new premium AP.

So if I purchase the passes in May and redeem the vouchers for actual passes ...let's say June 12th...then my annual renewal date will be June 12th?

If you are buying them at the park they are immediatly activated. If you are ordering vouchers on line then they will be activated when you turn the vouchers in for the actual pass.

The reason I buy annual passes is that I can use these passes for two vacations. Two years ago we went in early August and last year we went mid July......both vacations for about 10 disney days.

Years ago, after doing these two vacations we were able to renew the passes, but they didn't become active untill the next years use.

So now we give up the discount for renewal.......seems like every visit we lose another little discount.

Does anyone know what the cost of a renewal DVC pass is vs. waiting and just getting a new one? Am I considering not renewing in May and just waiting until the fall?

If you go to Allears (annual passholder) they have a chart with pricing. If I remember correctly the adult DVC annual pass cost if you renew is $377 and $425 if it's not a renewal. Both include tax.

If you aren't going to use the AP for several months, don't renew. Just buy a new one and start the clock over. If you renew, it starts right when the other ended.

We never renew because we try to get at least two trips out of one pass. Like at least 14 days. We never go the exact same time.
