We recently stayed at SSR for one night before a cruise and wondered if we had to leave a tip for housekeeping. We didn't have anything brought to the room and they did not clean it for us during our stay. What is everyone's opinion? We did leave $3 but weren't sure if we had to

thanks
Judy

While it is not required to tip housekeeping, it is certainly the right thing to do, in my mind. Even though you were only at SSR for one night, housekeeping came in after you left to prepare the room for the next guest, (and housekeeping had come in to prepare the room for you before you arrived). We always tip a couple of dollars per night stayed.

Disney says that mousekeeping is not a tipped position. Many of us DO tip as a way to acknowledge those who do a hard job with low pay and little recognition. It is entirely up to you. Whatever you decide to do will be fine.

You don't have to but it is nice to do. I usually tip housekeeping even if it isn't a tipped position. It is especially nice to leave something on the day you leave. You are leaving a tip not in hopes of getting something in return, just to say thanks. Good for you.:)

I read a good idea is $1.00 per person who stayed in the room. I try to do this every night I have someone clean, be it DVC or anywhere else.

Went to the Vinnie Antonelli (My Blue Heaven/Steve Martin) school, we tip everybody.

Seriously, anyone in a service position isn't exactly gettting paid big bucks, that you can be sure of and will appreciate whatever you do. But it isn't mandatory, so do what you will.

We always leave a few dollars per day of stay as well. We figure that even if Housekeeping did not clean during our stay, they had to prepare the room for us and clean up after us, so it's nice to leave something. Not that we're really messy, my husband even insists on somewhat making the bed before we leave the room each morning...now if only I can get him to do that at home...hmmmm...must be Disney Magic! :wizard:

We also leave a note saying "THANKS!" with the tip. This lets the Housekeeper know for sure that the money is meant for them and last time we stayed at Disney, our Housekeeper left us a note thanking us for the tip....it was really nice to know that our few dollars was so appreciated!

Now that's a first. He doesn't make the bed at home..... but he does when he stays elsewhere.

Try and figure out us guys..... :scratchin
