Did your teen enjoy Vibe?

My teen age 16 last cruise on 11-night Magic. She's an introvert, but not shy. She was not very interested in Vibe, but did attend a lot the first 3days, hoping to meet some kids to gel with, and help decide activities. It wasn't really her style, so she did other things . There were only 3sea days, otherwise we were off at ports.

My 15yo niece traveled with us on our last cruise and she loved the Vibe! She was the only teen in our group so she was on her own. We went with her on the first day to check out the space and see what there was. She went the first night and we barely saw her after that other than to sleep (in the wee hours of the morning after the Vibe closed), for supper and shore excursions. She had a great time!

As others have said, I would highly recommend she go the first night as everyone is getting to know one another then.

I would also recommend you join a meet group here and see if there are other families traveling with teens that age. Our second cruise my oldest connected with a girl her age on social media so when the cruise hit they were already friends. They were inseparable and we got to know the parents. Our third cruise we planned with them and even linked reservations to do dinner together! The girls text each other several times a week now and are looking forward to cruising again in 2018!

My girls love Vibe and Edge. The counselors do a great job including everyone, because my kids talk about hanging with everyone, even those who they personally wouldn't normally gel with. The activities do run late, so we set our own curfew, especially if we have an early excursion.

That is a great idea! I did join the meet group for my cruise and heard from someone who also has a teen daughter :) We're not telling our kids until October but as soon as I do I'm going to have them swap emails and hopefully that'll help to at least know one person ahead of time

My daughter loved the Oceaneers Club/lab but has not enjoyed either the Egde or Vibe. Not sure what is up wit it. Thinking of taking a friend next time, as her older sister prefers to hang with me and the younger one doesn't like the sun as much.

Neither of my 2 kids have ever liked a kids' club on any ship we've sailed (DCL, RCCL). Not sure why, but I guess they like to do their own thing rather than organized activities. The have met friends in the pool, etc.

So when everyone talks about making sure your teen goes the first night; is that the "Icebreakers" in the Navigators? Around 10:30pm? I'm trying to decide when to set her curfew. Also, I know you do not register and they have in/out privileges; Do they get a special KTTWK or a sticker or something?

What ship is it? Dream class is a special card, Classics its a Sticker. Yes, it is the Icebreakers, I don't know how responsible your daughter is, but if you really want her back at a specific time ensure that she has a way to communicate as time flies by very fast.

Thanks, Dream; sorry. I'm not worried about what she's up to, I just don't want her waking everyone up when she comes in. I need my beauty sleep! lol

My son, on the Fantasy last september, got an entirely new card once he checked into the Vibe. It said "VIBE" on it and was dark in color. I'll try to remember to take a pic of it when I get home from work tonight and post it here. He still kept the other one but this VIBE card got him into the VIBE.

Definitely this! My son we didnt the first two nights and omg he would just stroll in from hanging out in VIBE till it closed at 2am. I was like what the heck could you possibly do till 2am (then again I am old by his standards lol). So we set boundaries finally and he still got to hang out but had to be back BY 2am not 3 etc.

Try 4 or 5 in the morning...My husband went looking for my son a few times. They leave the club and go hang out in D Lounge or on the decks. They really aren't doing anything but hanging out but we told him there is not reason to be out that late.

Yes, icebreaker is around 10:30, past my bedtime and close to our normal curfew time for that particular year of Sarah's life. But since this was vacation and Sarah was 15 (at that time) we moved her curfew to midnight on the cruise and then after a couple of days, moved it to 1 a.m. Most nights, she was in around midnight and would let us know if anything special was occurring in the Vibe that would keep her out past midnight. The first night icebreaker is important though because this is when everyone gets to know one another. In my daughter's group, they would meet up for lunch and afternoon activities, have dinner with the family and then meet again after dinner. In Sarah's group, there was a young man with mild autism, the group was great about respecting his needs but also making sure he was included in the activities.

Find the Facebook group for your cruise and find your daughter a pen pal. That has worked well on 2 cruises for my 13 year old. Someone she can text beforehand, then look for when they get there. I usually find her a couple of pen pals, and she hits it off with at least one. Have a great cruise!

We're actually doing a B2B so i was looking for possible connections for her with kids also.on the same itinerary (bc I'm a member of both groups) but no luck. I guess I'll just concentrate on one at a time. Oh, well.

Hi all,

Just looking for other people's experience with how their teens enjoyed vibe, especially if they went alone and had to meet new friends. We're cruising in november and my son is 8 and my daughter is 15 so I was just wondering if it would be better to pay to have a friend join, or if most teens enjoy the teen activities even if they didn't know anyone at first (I know it depends on the kid, just wondering what other teens thought of it too).

Thanks :)
Although I'm an edge kid, I will have some input. I think your daughter even though she won have a friend. It is best she goes first night because friend groups tend to get placed in stone near the middle and end of a cruise. I met many friends on my recent cruise I made a few more than 10 friends. Good Luck, I think she will enjoy it:)
