Did you see this sculpture of Britney's birth?

It's the position of it that grosses me out, it looks obscene, like something you would see in a porno.

I dont have anything wrong with the postition itself. I dont find it gross or obscene. I did find myself in that postition while delivering the sweetpea. You would be amazed at how much relief that position was along with swinging my tailbone side to side. Granted, I wasn't on a bear skin rug while I did it and I did have a hospital gown on, but I doubt it looked anything like a porno.

Art is subjective. What some people see as beautiful, others will not. I find childbirth beautiful, but that sculpture did not capture the beauty of childbirth, IMO. Having Brittany nakie and on a bear skin rug does give off the "ick" factor.

Personally, I dont like it.

Ok, count me in on the EW, yuck, gross and I have given birth twice and trust me it was nothing like that! (and as said, Birt's herself I am sure had more drugs and knifes then mine.)


That was clearly a work of a man who knows nothing about child brith. (as mentioned before even on hands and knees you don't put your head down and make the baby climb up. Gravity is your friend in childbrith.)

my comment of 'eww' was in relation to associating the depiction of the concept of childbirth with the likeness of Britney on the bear rug... would have been so much better if it didn't have her face on it.

I have several opinions on this sculpture, but I was suprised to find out the person who made it is from my town. I had no idea until I read the newspaper this morning. The whole thing is quite funny actually.

YEs, my DH's AUNT lives in your town, the same town this dude has his studio...do you know exactly where the studio is in town??? She was talking to my DH last night about the dude and the studio but has no clue where it is???

Since helping women give birth is my profession - and I've seen many women give birth in that position (more easily that lying flat on your back)...it doesn't bother me a bit. I'm not saying I would want this thing on my front lawn or that it's *gorgeous*...just saying I'm not grossed out by it and it doesn't bother me.

I have no idea where his studio is. I reread the article in the newspaper, but didn't see anything mentioned. That was one of my first questions, wondering where his studio was. This town isn't too big at all, so I'm sure I will find out soon enough.
