Did you see this: Marie Claire magazine posts "Should fatties get a room?" article.

wow. Just wow. I'm not easily offended, but holy crap. They're thoughts you keep on the *inside,* lady.

FWIW, I think Melissa McCarthy (Molly, Sookie St James) is adorable! I don't even see her weight, she just has the cutest face!

Murderball was a great documentary. Although I must say, some of those men were the rudest most ignorant jerks. I didn't even notice the wheelchairs. I just kept thinking what a jerk:rotfl:

::yes::

They were jocks!

And spoiled because people let them get away with murder.

Personally, I just loved (:sad2:) her diet advice! I think she should stop writing about things she knows nothing about!

What is wrong with it? :confused3

I'm happy to give you some nutrition and fitness suggestions if you need them — but long story short, eat more fresh and unprocessed foods, read labels and avoid foods with any kind of processed sweetener in them whether it's cane sugar or high fructose corn syrup, increase the amount of fiber you're getting, get some kind of exercise for 30 minutes at least five times a week, and do everything you can to stand up more — even while using your computer — and walk more. I admit that there's plenty that makes slimming down tough, but YOU CAN DO IT! Trust me. It will take some time, but you'll also feel so good, physically and emotionally. A nutritionist or personal trainer will help — and if you can't afford one, visit your local YMCA for some advice

There is a difference between not agreeing with someone on a given topic and wanting an apology because you don't agree.

I read things I don't agree with every day but have never thought once that anyone owed me an apology for having a different opinion than I do.

I think there is also a difference between writing an opinion piece for a magazine and using terms like "fatties". Just unnecessary.

I've seen ads for a new show featuring a very attractive African American couple. I wonder if Marie Claire would publish a review of this show by an admitted bigot saying it grosses her out to watch them be physically affectionate.

People on these boards do it every year - just towards gay couples.

Yes, I do not like to watch fatties either - no one can admit that the morbidly obese are nice to look at.

Sounds as though the writer in question is quite self-absorbed, to the extent of being insensitive to others whose weight issues do not mirror her own. I will not read her, due to the extreme unattractiveness of her mind.

Oh, she is so cute:cutie: I must say, I find her way more attractive than Maura Kelly.

When I don't want to watch something on television, I switch channels.

Problem solved. :wizard:

No one?

I'd post others (with fatter models), but I'm assuming there's rules against naked chicks.

Personally, as an artist, I'd rather draw a fat model than a skinny one any day. Their curves are more interesting visually.

And I *always* thought my husband was nice to look at, even when he was "morbidly" obese. You don't have to be very fat to slip into that category!

I'm about as likely to take dieting advice from an anorexic as I am an obese person. WTH does she know about being "healthy" if she's dealing with issues herself? She's just the other end of the spectrum of obesity. Neither one is healthy. Her advice may be correct, but don't come off sounding like it's the simplest thing in the world and you can't imagine how people can't see that. Hypocrite!

It takes quite a bit of extra weight to fall into the "morbidly" obese category.

Ok but what did she say in the quoted part that was incorrect? It also didn't sound like "dieting" advice to me either. It sounded more like just plain eating better, no fad dieting, no starving, nothing like that in there at all.

So if people say they don't like to watch gays together that's prejudiced, but it's not prejudiced to say you don't want to watch the "fatties either"? :confused3 :confused3 Either way it's wrong and it's prejudiced.

I know everything she said in her article about exercise and dieting is correct. However, I'm 235 pounds. Would you take that same advice from me? :confused3 Do as I say, not as I do advice usually doesn't lend itself to being accepted by most. ;)

I'm a big fan of "do as I say, not as I do", ask my DD. ;)

I see your point but what she said in that part of the article wasn't bad information. I agree that the rest of the article was hurtful and mean but that one snippet was right on.

So will next month's issue feature an article by an overweight writer about how they cannot stand the sight of starving anorexics and how anyone with a BMI of less than X% ought not be allowed to be seen in public (let alone on TV) because the very sight of them is disturbing, unnatural and sickening? :confused3 I mean, fair is fair.

It seems to me the writer has some deep psychological issues (which she was less than forthcoming about initially) that have skewed her thinking. She was an anorexic, for crying out loud. It probably gave her a panic attack to envision herself as a size 2. :rolleyes1 I'll wager she still has major food issues. Clearly, she has "size" issues.

Nope being gay or black is something you are born as.

Fat is a choice and therefore I have the choice not to like it!

Don't we all do this? :thumbsup2
