Did you - or do you have a hope chest?

No hope chest for me or anybody that I knew or know.

Ditto. I don't have anywhere the same sense of style now that I did when I was younger so it seems odd to me to build up a bunch of stuff that I may not have even liked. None of the hope chests I've seen fit my style either so I don't even know where I would put it in the house.

I'm glad that those who have them enjoy them though. It seems like a lovely sentiment.

I still have my Lane cedar chest that my parents bought as a Christmas gift I believe my senior year in high school.....I've always used it to store bedding or sentimental clothing in.....We have it at the end of our bed and I need to put our sheets and quilts in it......I love mine and although we have no kids hopefully one of our nieces will get it when we pass to the other side.

Ours was made by my BIL and given to us as a wedding gift 30 years ago. It's always been at the foot of our bed and it holds blankets and a few Christmas items. It's cedar-lined, so the blankets always smell wonderful.

DH and his Dad copied the pattern and gave the same chest to our DD when she married this summer. Boy was that $$$$ and was truly a labor of love, it was a ton of work. But she loves it!

The Lane Co. gave the girls in my graduating class those small dresser-top chests too. And my DH bought me a Lane hope chest that summer for my birthday, it has a tapestry top, and lined with cedar. I keep treasured mementos in it now, open it up to look at everything every few years.

We also have DH's Mom's, he got it after she passed away 9 years ago.

And I will get my Mother's someday too, it belonged to a great aunt so is quite old.

I will bequeathe them to my DD and my two granddaughters someday.

I have a Lane hope chest that my DH gave me after we were engaged.

I keep sentimental things in it from our wedding and baby stuff.

I have two DDs. Not sure who will get it.

My mother has a hope chest. And my parents bought my sister a hope chest while she was in college. After I was married and had my first child, my grandmother passed away, her hope chest came to me. It still has the Valentine's Day card in it from my Grandfather, dated Feb. 14, 1941. They were married July 4, 1941.

I got one for my graduation in 19.......

Right now I keep some of the frilly dresses I used to put on my DD when she was little.

I have not thought about if I will give it to her or not. She is only 12 so I guess I might a few years down the road.

I have a hope chest my parents got me for high school graduation. I store a quilt my grandma made me in it as well as the two pairs of scrubs my DH wore in the hospital for the births of both of our sons (their footprints are on them). I also hide Christmas presents in it because the boys never seem to think of that as a place I would hide things.

However, since the hope chest is next to the large window in our bedroom, it serves primarily as a "stool" that our Yorkies jump on so they can get into and sit on our window sill.

I have a Lane cedar hope chest too. I got it early in our marriage. I have tons of pics in there and lots of special, sentimental things. My wedding gown and veil are in there as is dried flowers from special times in my life--I have my babyshower corsage in there too.

I have a Lane chest too. Mine was my Nana's. I got it along with the rest of their bedroom furniture when my Grandfather moved in with my cousin (long story). I store my other grandmother's antique lace tablecloths in it along with some blankets and the kids school papers.

I got it from my grandfather when I graduated from 6th grade. My mom made me put things in it that I would want to keepsake for the future, like newspapers of important events and a blanket and a quilt. Each girl in the family got a new one and it was very nice, I just didn't see me needing one.

It is still at her house in my old bedroom collecting dust. The style of it doesn't suit me one bit.

Looks like around 24 - give or take - that have mentioned having a hope chest so far.. Nice to see an older tradition that hasn't entirely "bit the dust" - LOL.. I'm pleasantly surprised..

Prior to getting married, mine was filled with beautiful handmade items from my grandmother, special dishes that were passed down through the family, items I wanted to save from my childhood for my future children, etc..

After I married, I used mine to store my wedding gown; quilts my grandmother made for me by hand; christening outfits from my children; etc..

I have one too. It was kind of a given, with my first name. The one I have, I inherited from my great-great aunt who passed away when I was 8. Since I've had it, it's held toys, dolls, things for college, Disney plush and currently holds extra blankets. It's also our current coffee table. Depending on where DH and I have lived it has either been in the living room or bedroom. When it's in the bedroom, it ends up piled with clean clothes that don't ever get put away. In the living room, it gets a place of honor, and now it is also home to a couple wookworking pieces DBIL has made.

I have always wanted one to store things in that are special to me. I haven't gotten one, but maybe someday. My Mom has one, and it has a whole bunch of stuff of hers that she saved from when she was younger. She's even got a few things from when my brother and I were babies in there. I love looking through everything that's in there.

I have a hope chest. One of the FIRST things I bought when I graduated high school and got a job.
I still keep stuff in it (although no kitchen things and no sheets etc.).

Awwww.. That just makes me want to cry.. The hours of hard work and love that went into that.. It's beautiful!!!!!

My grandparents bought a Lane Cedar Chest for my mom when she was in high school. My grandmother proceeded to fill it with tons of hand-crocheted doilies, potholders and bedspreads. She also crocheted edging onto towels, dish towels and pillowcases. My mom took some things out to use when she got married almost 49 years ago. My sister, brother and I also took some things out when we got our own homes. It's still just brimming with Grandma's handmade things. She passed away 10 years ago so she hasn't added to it for a long time. We have lots of wonderful memories of my grandma and love using her handmade things in our homes. I'm sure there will be plenty left when my kids have their own homes.
