Did you go to Prom in the 1980s?

1983 -- Freebird :rotfl:

No clue where the pictures are, but here's a visual...

Me: bad perm. The bottom of my dress was peach dotted swiss with a hoop skirt underneath. :cool1: The top was white, spaghetti strapped, with peach embroidery. There was a peach satin sash. :scared1:  At the time I thought it was beautiful. Looking back, it was absolutely hideous.

My date: white tux with peach ruffly tux shirt, peach bow tie and peach cumberbun.

All that was missing was the top hat and walking stick. :rolleyes1

OMG
You are my identical twin!
Peach hoop dress, date (now DH) in white tux, peach ruffly shirt AND TOP HAT AND WALKING STICK from when he was prom king two years earlier!
I have a pic somewhere, let me dust that puppy off!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

1988--I don't remember the theme but I DO remember that everyone got a wine glass with the theme and date on it. Really? A wine glass for Senior Prom? :lmao: Yep--it didn't make sense then, but I'd bet parents would have a conniption fit over it today...

I probably still have it here somewhere...DH was my prom date (he was DBF then, of course), so we have a matching set! :rotfl: Should've used them for our wedding toast, huh?

We got wine glasses with the theme and date, too!
I have a matching set (same reason as you) of Christmas dance, junior prom, senior prom. We DO use them, they are especially funny if you have a party with folks even older than you and you break out the prom wine glasses. It's a hoot!
Famous Final Scene 1984 is the only theme I can remember off hand...want me to get my butt off the couch and look in the cupboard for the others??

I went to an all girls school. No prom at ours. I had townie friends and went to sr prom with them in 88. My dress was long, black and ruffles everywhere. It went perfect with my black rose corsage and combat boots.LOLOLOLOL

I have no idea what the theme was but we had printed napkins and wine glasses as favors.

Our theme in 1985 was "Inspiration"...with the theme song of "you're the meaning of my life, you're my inspiration..." We also used Cherish (Kool and the Gang) as a theme at one point, too.

Slow Dance by Billy Joel
The Search is Over - Survivor

sigh... you just brought back the old memories.. :lovestruc

I think these were the themes, but my memory is a little fuzzy.

Jr. Prom 1989- Eternal Flame by the Bangles
Sr. Prom 1990- Nothing Compares to You Sinead O'Connor

We got alcohol glasses too... not wine glasses, one looks like a big fat round brandy glass? I'm not a drinker. The other one looks like a fancy glass for a mixed drink, round on the bottom, then gets narrow and flares at the top.

My Jr. Prom dress had a bubble poof skirt and it was a shocking electric blue color!

ooopss.. i forgot to add mine. so amazing- luther vandross. and i can't think of anything else. this was year 1987.

OK, so I just pulled out my "Senior Memory Book" to see if there was a song. There wasn't. :confused3 The theme was "'Til the Clock Strikes Twelve" but apparently there was no song. :confused3 Good to know there really wasn't a song. I was wondering if I was starting to go senile. ;)

What was your Prom theme? Or if you didn't - what 1980s sound would be a great prom theme?

And seeing some of your 1980s prom photos would be a bonus here!

1988 and the theme was Faithfully by Journey...oh to be young again;)

I went to my Junoir Prom in 85. If I remember right the theme was "Puttin' on the Ritz"
My dress was baby blue with spaghetti straps. My date wore a white tux with matching baby blue.

I missed my senior prom. I know I had a dress but I can't remember what it looked like.

These are fabulous! My prom was 1981 and like an earlier poster our theme was "Babe" (not the pig....). The band didn't learn the song though and instead played a version that they had taped off of the radio!

livin on a prayer..(yeah, I know:sad2: )

red strapless, giant hoop..

date had black tux with red..

"Forever Young" by Alphaville- we thought it was so new wave!
The dress was a pink bridesmaid type gown that was floor length in the back- but higher in the front.... what was I thinking?!
:confused3
fun times though!
:lovestruc

1989 - Junior Prom was Never Say Goodbye by Bon Jovi. I wore a sea foam green dress with shoes dyed to match.

1990 - I want Money Lots and Lots of Money (goodness knows why!) I wore a lacy black knee length dress.

Oh and we got wine glasses too, I actually think I still have mine somewhere.

I don't remember any of the themes, but I remember the dates!!
I went sophmore year...84/85....with a Jr. I wore the dress my older sister wore the year before. Very simple white, with little bitty pink roses on it, off the shoulder and the skirt of it was cross over and kinda open to the knees. Very simple, but different from everyone elses.
Jr. year 85/86) I went with my "older" boyfriend. (He is an alcoholic and STILL single) I wore a red dress (bright red!)with speghetti straps and a FULL skirt. Looking back at the pictures....(and there's even one in the yearbook!:scared: ) it was absolutely GROSS!!!
Sr. Year 86/87) I went with a different older boyfriend. Wore the same dress I wore Sophmore year...it was still in style!! ( I also really didn't care to much about it at the time. I found out (about a week before) the boyfriend had been cheating on me with a girl from a neighboring town. Prom was held Downtown Chicago and we lived about an hour south. When we got to the place, had dinner, and danced a little bit, I asked DBF (D doesn't stand for Darling either!) for the keys. He gave them to me and that's when I told him that I knew about the other girl, and he needed to find another way home! A bunch of my friends and I jumped in his car and went all over downtown Chicago! IT WAS GREAT!!! His brother told me he had to get a ride with the principal!!
I left his car parked the wrong way on a street with the windows open and the lights on, and out of gas! He had a parking ticket and a dead battery by the time he found where I left it!!
Those were the good ol' days!! :rolleyes1

all of us girls dumped our dates and took off to the party...:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 and I mean we just left..

My first prom was in 1989 -- the theme was Mardi Gras. I don't remember much, except I was elected junior attendant to the court, which surprised the heck out of me!

Unfortunatley I didn't go to my junior or senior prom, never got asked out to go :guilty: I don't remember jr. or sr. prom themes.
Only the popular girls and their boyfriends went to prom, at least at my HS.
Oh well, I guess I didn't miss much :)

1981- "The Times of your Life" by Paul Anka. And yes, I wore a powder blue gunnue sax dress, with my date in the matching powder blue ruffled shirt tux. We were stylin'!!!! Oh yeah - can't forget my farrah fawcett hairdo either LOL.

OMG! My prom was 1982, our theme was "Shout" by Otis Day and the Nights (so much fun) and I wore a pink Gunnie Sax dress with white and pink corsage! I also had kind of "big hair" too. The Kirstie Alley from Cheers look. LOL

My proms were in 1989 and 1990. I have no clue what the themes were. A lot has happened to me since then. :rotfl2:

But, I remember my dresses. Junior year was a teal, tea-length, strapless dress with silverish lace over the skirt. I wore silver pantyhose and silver shoes. My senior year, I wore a purple dress with the puffy sleeves that hung off the shoulders. Purple pantyhose, purple heels.

I'd post some pictures if I knew where they were!

My Junior Year dress was also teal and strapless tea length...lol
My senior year was black and teal.... guess teal was big. :rotfl2:

1989-Best of Times, by Styx(I think). It wasn't popular then, but for some reason it was picked.

I can't believe I'm going to post this, but, since I have changed quite a bit, here goes....

ry%3D480

Any guesses how many cans of hairspray I used that night?

And thats what my teal strapless dress looked like my junior yr!! Hair almost as big too...lol

"Forever Young" by Alphaville- we thought it was so new wave!
The dress was a pink bridesmaid type gown that was floor length in the back- but higher in the front.... what was I thinking?!
:confused3
fun times though!
:lovestruc

OMG..I love that song... I want it played at my funeral ...not to be morbid, lol, just love it.

I dont' want to be the one to ruin the thread, but I had so much fun reading these...although my proms weren't until 91 and 92.. I dont' remember the 91 theme, but 92 was "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel... Wasn't that really an 80s song?? Dunno...
