Did you go to Prom in the 1980s?

It was always my understanding that the juniors were responsible for theming the senior proms. I graduated in 88. Our theme was "The Carnival". It had absolutely the WORST theming and decorations I have ever seen in my life for a dance. Imagine a really bad traveling carnival with fake booths. That about covers it. No song, nothing. Just a carnival setting. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I went to the prom in 1983. How could you guys remember what your theme was? I don't and I was even on the prom committee. :lmao:

I remember we had it on the Gateway Clipper, which is a huge river boat that sails up and down the rivers all evening long.

I remember my dress. White with purple and pink flowers, off the shoulder with ruffles around the top and bottom of the dress, and to top it off a purple ribbon that tied around my neck that matched my dress, oh the horror! :scared1:

1986 right here!

I don't remember the theme.

I wore a pink cotton ruffled dress that had a v-neck-type of thing going on. It had off-the shoulder sleeves that had-cut-outs to the wrist. The skirt part was made of a bunch of slits, wide slits with ruffles all over.

I remember my bra didn't fit right and kept sliding up. I remember going in the elevator with my much older boyfriend who wanted to get busy by stopping the elevator (I said no and got mad at him and we never danced). AND yes, this was at the Bonaventure hotel with the glass elevators.

My hair was really, really long (still is!). I had it done in a lovely French braid with the long braid tucked under my hair an covered with baby's breath and white roses.

I'm not certain, but I think I had a bow on my butt.

I borrowed my sister's new convertible Mustang and I drove us to the prom with my best friend and her date.

THANK GOD we are still best friends and can laugh about prom now. We ended up at Spires restaurant laughing at everyone after taking a drive along the coast.

If I had pictures, I'd post them in a heartbeat.

1981 Junior Prom - Best of Times/Styx

1982 Senior Prom - Don't Stop Believing/Journey

Jr. year - 1987 - Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now Peach was my favorite color, so I had a peach tea length dress, no sleeves and strapless. Still actually had the dress and cut it up this year to make something for DD

Sr. year - 1988 - The Time of My Life Gold was big in 1988 - had a gold lame and white lace tea length strapless dress. Still actually have this one hanging in the basement too. BF and I broke up before the prom but decided to go together to it anyway.

I graduated in 1989, our theme was Heaven is a Place on Earth, I can't remember the artist. We purchased a kit to make a Hot Air Balloon (you use crapepaper to make the balloon parts). Hung them from the roof.

Senior prom, 1984. I think the theme was "Almost Paradise" from Footloose. I went to school in Atlanta, so the Southern Belle look was big. I wore an off the shoulder, mint green, corseted, ruffly, hoop-skirted ballgown that would have fit right in on the set of Gone With the Wind. My date wore the traditional tux, although a lot of guys wore white dinner jackets with black pants.

I still have that dress (more than 25 years later), and still love it. I wish I could still fit in it- I'd wear it for Halloween.

1989-Best of Times, by Styx(I think). It wasn't popular then, but for some reason it was picked.

I can't believe I'm going to post this, but, since I have changed quite a bit, here goes....

Any guesses how many cans of hairspray I used that night?

1985

Song-Sister Christian - Night Ranger (never understood this choice)

Theme- Absolutely no idea but am certain it involved mullets & miniskirts.

Cam Colt! LOL I LOVE that your shoes perfectly match your dress! I think you looked cute!

My senior prom was in '88. Our theme song was "The Best of Time" by AC/DC maybe? I know that was the theme, but can't recall if that's who sang it. I never liked it and am not sure who came up with that.

My sister was the class of '87 and their theme was "Summer of '69" by Brian Adams since that's the year they were all born.

I am disappointed in the intergoogle. You would think that since it have everything, it would have my prom picture.

But it doesn't!

Cam, I wore a dress that same shape to GradNight at Disneyland a few weeks after my prom.

My Gradnight dress was black and it had a zipper up the middle of it, but with the same shape and ruffles at the bottom.

Yeah, we were awesome then. Kids these days have no idea how hard it is to get your hair to actually do that.

Styx is the band you're looking for.

:lmao:

Sorry, but the thought of AC/DC doing "The Best of Times" really cracks me up.

Honestly, I've never heard the song. Never heard of it when it came up and I don't even think they played it at the prom. To this day, I think it was a dumb idea. The title was fine, but nobody knew the song.

1988--I don't remember the theme but I DO remember that everyone got a wine glass with the theme and date on it. Really? A wine glass for Senior Prom? :lmao: Yep--it didn't make sense then, but I'd bet parents would have a conniption fit over it today...

I probably still have it here somewhere...DH was my prom date (he was DBF then, of course), so we have a matching set! :rotfl: Should've used them for our wedding toast, huh?

My junior prom in 1982 had the theme of "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers (the seniors picked the themes). I wore white dress.

My senior year, 1983, was "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. I wore a hot pink dress.

We could have gone to the same school. We got wine glasses too. Very strange, I thought, but then again, I was a goody two-shoes, so I didn't drink before I turned 21.

I graduated in 1984 our theme was "We've got Tonight" by Bob Seegar
I think in 83 it was something about time -I can't remember what.
My dresses were Scarlett O'Hara rejects.
In my neck of the woods (rural GA) in the early 80s long gowns were still popular.
