Did you go to Prom in the 1980s?

I don't remember the theme or the song but I wore a long pink Gunne Sax dress with all the lace and ruffles (1979). We got brandy snifters instead of wine glasses.

My prom was in 1984. The theme was Heaven (Bryan Adams song). We had a huge fancy prom at a hotel in Manhattan. We had a limo and after the prom we went around to all the clubs. Stayed out all night and had tons of fun. I had a pink gown and my date (my DH) wore a tux. I wished I knew how to post a pic. And yep we got the wine glass too.

Darcy isn't it funny to think of everyone sipping Brandy from their snifter??
My dress looked something like this
80s-Prom-Dress3.jpg
except it was black and gold

I am wating for pics of the but bow dresses :lmao:

1985-"Careless Whisper" by Wham.
Westin Hotel in downtown Chicago.

I wore a horrible pink lace gown. I wanted a black dress, but my Mom refused.
I tanned for a few days before the prom not realizng that by bathing suit and my dress had different cuts. So all my prom photos show terrible tan lines!

My boyfriend got the flu the day before prom, but I made him go. He ended up getting sick in the bathroom during the prom and I had to convince the chaperones he wasnt drunk!

Ahh memories!

Yes, it is. There we were, a bunch of 17-18 y.o. kids with brandy snifters of all things. Of course back then some of us were grandfathered and could legally drink at 18 so some of those snifters got used, but I'm sure it wasn't brandy! Knowing our era it was probably Mad Dog wine:lmao:

I graduated in 1984 our theme was "We've got Tonight" by Bob Seegar
I think in 83 it was something about time -I can't remember what.
My dresses were Scarlett O'Hara rejects.
In my neck of the woods (rural GA) in the early 80s long gowns were still popular.

Mine too!! 1984 Bob Segar "We've got Tonight".

My dress was a baby blue floor length dress made of polyester if I remember correctly. And the hair...:rotfl: at least 1 can of Aqua Net hairspray !!

I went to DH's prom (the night of mine we went to a friend's sister's wedding reception, MUCH more fun). The theme was "Could It Be Magic"--it was in 1981, but I don't know why they had a 70's song theme. We still have the wine glasses. And FYI at least where I work wine glasses have been a no-no for years--"it encourages them to drink".
The theme at my own school (and about 5 others around here) was "The Best of Times", which had just come out recently.
I had a powder blue dress (size 7, for pete's sake) with a long pleated skirt but no hoop. It kind of hung loose up top and was sleeveless but had straps. I bought it in 1980 but the jerk I was dating then was a year behind me and refused to go to prom because "I'll be the only 10th grader there". So I just pulled it back out the next spring. DH wore a navy blue tux, with a white shirt w/ power blue accents. We'd been dating about 5 months at the time.

My prom was 1982 and I can't remember the theme. It is driving me crazy now to think of what it is. I remember my dress and everything else about it.

1985 - "One More Night" by Phil Collins

Many of us were NOT happy that our prom theme was a breakup song. :confused3

I went to the prom with my chemistry teacher's son. She and her husband were chaperones. 'Nuff said. :lmao:

I know. I can't remember my themes either. But, I do remember the dresses. And the jerk that I went with both times. :rolleyes1

My prom was 1988. The theme was "Under the Stars" or "Magic In the Moonlight" something like that, but I don't think there was a song with it. :confused3

It was held in a historic hotel. In Florida. In May. The hotel had an A/C failure. We were all absolutely ROASTING. Looking back I don't think we stayed at the actual dance very long. My date was not my boyfriend, he was just a pal who couldn't get another date. My boyfriend at the time was 20 or 21 (he was the Assistant Manager at Chess King - Ooooh!) and he was over the whole prom thing. After the dance I just went home. It was definitely not a super-special-night-I-will-never-forget.

OMG! I just Googled the hotel and in 1989 it was converted to a retirement home! :rotfl2: That's pretty funny. It was then extensively renovated and reopened in 2003. Hilarious! :lmao:

1988 -- Theme "We said hello Goodbye" by Phil Collins

I went to a friends prom in 1989 and the theme was some god awful trite song.

The Geogre Michael song I want your sex was big in 1988. ANother song was Buster Pointdexter's Hot Hot Hot.

It takes two -- and some Salt n Pepa song (Push it?)

1982 and 1983
I can't remember our themes. Maybe one of them was "Just You and I" by some country guy.

I went to JR and SR proms with the same guy. Dated him from time I was 16 until I was 20.

First year I wore a long powder blue Gunne Sax dress (size 3) which was V-necked and sleeveless/ No hoop. I was the ONLY girl with no hoop! I do not think I would have know what to do with that hoop! LOL

SR year it was a creme colored Gunne Sax (no hoop) that could have doubled for a wedding dress out in a field of wild flowers, LOL!

I still have both dresses in down in the basement.

My date wore a suit both years. I think he was the only guy not wearing a tux but that was fine by me. he needed a suit so we talked it over and he put his money in it instead of renting a tux.

First year my parents made me come home by 1:00. Second year I probably got home by then or before because I had to work that Saturday. By then, I already had my job that I had trained for in HS. :)

1989 the theme was Almost Paradise, which strangley was the same for my sister 5 years before.:)

I had a teal gown with more ruffles and poof than a drag queen would know what to do with! Oh, and we can't forget the butt bow that framed my toosh so nice!;) I also had mile high hair and am responible for at least one of the holes in the O-zone, from that night alone.

LOL....yep the Scarlett O'Hara rejects were the style in 85&86 at my proms.

Jr yr I don't remember the them. I wore my sisters lavender straight dress with spaghetti straps
I broke up with my boyfriend the weekend before and asked his best friend to be my date. We ended up dating and got married 2 weeks after I graduated(big mistake we divorce 10 months after we got married)
I think he worn a light gray tux with lavender cummerbund and bow tie

Sr yr theme was A touch Of Class
I wore a royal blue "Scarlet O'Hara reject that him mother made for me. Was was an amazing seamstress but was also a raging alcoholic. She forgot to make my crinoline and got roaring drunk the night before the prom. I ended up making it without having any idea what I was doing. Darn them came apart on the dance floor LOL
He worn dark grey tux with royal blue tie and vest.

Another member of the Scarlett O'Hara rejects here! Mine was two shades of pink. My poor date. I forced that guy to wear matching pink bowtie and cumberbun.

1987-- "The Time to Remember" by Billy Joel

We got champange glasses as souvineers too.:confused3

Turn the Page was our theme song. Our prom also did a tribute to John Lennon , Remember There's No Heaven (I think..........1981..........was he killed that year??)

Lots of the girls wore fluffy cinderella type dresses. I wore a long white gown, straight, off one shoulder, long black gloves and a beaded little cap thing in my hair.

If my girls could have seen me then?? LOL!!
