We went to New Orleans.....way back in '72!! Did a bus trip down with a stop at Mammoth Caves in Kentucky.

Define "senior trip". I think we had an option to do a week-long summer trip right out of school, but that was rather expensive and there's no way my parents would have allowed it.

We did have a weekend trip. We even got one day off school. Our school hired a service (with guide) that arranged for four chartered Greyhound Americruisers and four to a motel room (only one night). We spent the second night sleeping on the bus. Went (in order) to Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland (Grad Nite), and Magic Mountain. We managed to be in all three within a 24 hour span. A bunch of us were in line and mentioned this to someone at MM, who thought it was really hard core.

Staggering out of Disneyland at 6 AM was an interesting experience. There is a certain advantage to youth when it comes to human endurance. Guys were also expected to wear suits and women tasteful dresses. And the entertainment wasn't half bad for the late 80s. It included Michael Bolton (when he had a ponytail), Expose, Force MD's, and Roger.

We just had a bus trip to grad night at Magic Kingdom all the way from Melbourne!

I graduated in 1991 - which was during the first Gulf War.

Previous classes had gone to Washington, D.C. & New York City for their senior trips, because a large portion of the senior trip needed to be "educational" according to the administration of our school. (Our senior trips were taken during late April or early May, so still during the school year.)

Also, because it was a private Christian school, our senior trips weren't really supposed to include any swimming, which is why prior classes had stayed away from Florida.

Anyway, due to the Gulf War, many things were closed in Washington, D.C. & New York City that we would have visited.

So a group of parents (my mother included) got together & came up w/ a different trip for us - St. Augustine, FL & Disney World!

We had a very cool homeroom teacher, who absolutely loved the idea - Florida meant a shorter drive for him as well! So he proposed our trip to the administration &, because so many things were closed in Washington & New York, our little Florida trip was approved!

So our senior trip included a very quick stop at the Fort in St. Augustine for the "educational" part of our trip, the Kennedy Space Center, 4 days in Disney World, & the Okeefeenokee Swamp in southern Georgia on our way home.

And we also stopped at the beach on the day we left St. Augustine & went swimming! Not to mention, the nights we swam in our condo's pool! Ssshhh! Don't tell! LOL!

Disney Studios (which was MGM then) had just opened, so our 4 days included the MK, EPCOT, & Disney Studios!

Such a fun trip!!

I remember there being a senior cruise trip right after graduation, but it wasn't sponsored by the school. I think a parent had a travel agency & blocked a bunch of rooms & then it was just word of mouth for who was going. It was just a three day party cruise to Mexico.

1994, ski trip to the Poconos. It was during the Olympics and all my friends piled into our room to watch the figure skating finals. The skiing was really "bunny slope" stuff but it was fun.

My school did. They went to France. I didn't even dare to ask my Mother.

I did not go.

There was just no way I was going to be able to go unless a Disney or any other fairy left the money for me.

Being "poor" kind of sucks until you learn what it teaches you.

The traditional grad trip at my high school was the all nighter at Disneyland. Our class officers decided to do a trip to Lake Tahoe instead. While I like Tahoe, I can be there in 90 minutes anytime I want. I did not go. Every class for 10 years before, and every class since, has done the Disneyland overnight trip. :confused3

No, never offered in my school, nephew goes there now (25 + years later) and still no trips. My DD is a teacher and her district doesn't do them either.

We did a ton of fund raisers for our class trip. It was a lot of work but the result was fun. Of course, France.........probably just a bit more money than an 18 hr bus trip to New Orleans!! :rotfl:

My class went to Washington and New York as the trip had to be educational. We were told that if we didn't manage to pull it off (small school) that no class would ever have another senior trip. That was 27 years ago and they are still going. This was the 1st year that I've heard that they didn't go to DC/NYC but went to Savannah GA instead.

Haha, noooo...I came from a very poor family in a poor community. We struggled to even pay for band uniforms and football games. Nobody that I knew went on any sort of trip. We did have Senior Skip Day, however. I grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast. We all took the day off and headed to Dauphin Island with our picnic coolers. Some of the boys brought beer, but I did not imbibe (I'm not a beer drinker.) The principal's office called all the parents of missing seniors. When they told my mom that I was not in school that day she told them they could find me at Dauphin Island, with her blessing. :rotfl: I graduated 4th in my class, so it didn't do me much harm.

When DD21 graduated we *did* take her on a cruise. We celebrated her 18th birthday & graduation, DSs 25th birthday , and our 30th anniversary. :thumbsup2

No. My senior class was in the running for "most least-motivated group". We didn't do anything that other classes did. No trips, no special motivational speakers (even for graduation), no skip days, nothing. The only reason we had a Senior Ball was the faculty decided that it should be available and, thus, organized, and ran it themselves.

This class pretty much was the same way all the way through school. We didn't have a junior prom, didn't have any school-oriented activities at any grade level from the time I joined them in 5th grade.

Disney World : ) I live in NJ and our class flew down and spent I like 4 days? (1990)

I don't remember an official senior trip. The year before, there was a senior cruise to the Bahamas- my BFFs went, but I couldn't because I was a year younger. They had a blast.

My favorite teacher arranged a trip to Europe the summer before my senior year, and I saved up for almost 2 years to be able to go. It was amazing! I count that as my senior trip.

I graduated after fall semester and started college in spring, so I missed out on all the senior festivities. I came home for prom and graduation, but didn't do any of the skip days, pranks, or other stuff. Most of the kids I graduated with went off to Panama City as soon as graduation was over- I had to go back to college for finals. A couple of girlfriends from my dorm and I went to Panama City the next week, though.

Graduated in 1985, and back then, our school left 30 minutes after graduation and drove all night to Disneyland. They would spend the day at the beach, and then go to Grad Night at DL. Boys had to be wearing dress clothes, and girls had to wear dresses. At 1:00 a.m., the buses headed home.

My dad told me I could choose... the above mentioned Senior Trip, or a 3 week trip to Europe, his treat! I chose Europe! Best decision I ever made!

My high school didn't do a senior trip (or any other class trip), but then neither did any of the other schools in the district. My senior class tried to have a Saturday bike trip from the school campus to a park for a senior picnic, but very few attended. I somehow don't think that 17/18 year old high school seniors were too excited about a class picnic.

Strictly from personal observations, it appears that the smaller the school -- meaning the smaller the class size -- the more likely the school is to do ambitious class trips. That sure seems to be the case around here, at least.

My high school didn't, and still doesn't, offer a senior trip. I did go to Montreal and Quebec my junior year (exclusive trip for those taking French 3) for a week and Washington D.C. my senior year (exclusive trip for those in honors, everyone else went to NYC) for 3 days. After graduating some friends and I went to Europe for 10 days.

We didn't have a designated senior trip unless you count the senior Kairos retreat. I did go to Europe for 2 1/2 weeks with the French teacher the summer before senior year.

1972, we went to Hershey Park! I'll never forget how it smelled like chocolate everywhere!! :faint:
