I only met my paternal grandparents, my grandfather died when I was 12 and my grandmother died when I was 16. My mother's birth father died 3 months before she and her twin sister were born. Her birth mother died 6 weeks after their birth. My mother and her twin sister were adopted by my paternal grandfather's sister and her husband, making my parents first cousins, but no blood relation. All the relatives were older when grandkids came along.
I never did have the opportunity to meet my mother's adoptive parents as they lived in eastern Canada and we lived in California. They both passed away when I was about 7.
At the age of 24, I became the oldest still living female in our family. I am now at the age of 47, a great aunt and a grandmother. Hope to see my great grandchildren.
