Did you ever get food poisoning at WDW?

I am just curious. They get thousands of people coming into the parks every day so food safety must be a huge concern when preparing so many meals.

So did you ever get food poisoning (or believed that you did) at WDW? Where did you eat?

Not me, but my sister did. We think it was the coleslaw at Pop's food court because it's the only thing she ate that day that I didn't. It hit quick and dirty, we split a meal at Pop before getting on DME to the airport and she started feeling sick at the airport and vomited on the plane home.

Oh, no! Getting sick on an airplane is like my worst nightmare

Not food poisoning but I had a very bad reaction to the water. Could not drink fountain drinks. Only bottled. So much for the refillable mug I’d bought.

Not food poisoning, but upset stomach a few times. Could be I just eat differently there.

DGD, I think got food poisoning, and threw up on the plane just as we were deplaning. She was only 5 and so embarrassed. The attendant was nice but had to lay blankets down so people could get off.
They actually had a wheel chair for her outside so we could move her to the car.

I never drink the tap water because there has been conflicting reports about people getting sick from it

I don't think the water is actually bad, but it's all in what you are used to. If you come from somewhere where the water quality is higher, it may upset your stomach. I can drink Orlando water okay, but Anaheim water is to be avoided!

DH came home from vacation with cryptosporidium once. Sickest he's ever been. The doctor said it likely either came from contaminated food or swallowing swimming pool water (but he was only in the pool once and he doesn't put his head under. And the rest of us were in the same pool at the same time *and* underwater but we did not get it, so I suppose it's POSSIBLE it was the pool, but seems unlikely.)

I think a lot of the food poisoning claims from WDW are actually other pathogens. Anyone with little kids knows how little attention they pay to hygiene and combine that with people from all over the world bringing different microbes into small spaces and you have a Petri dish of things that might get you sick. The handrail you touch is more likely to get you sick than Disney food.

FL water isn't great but it isn't dangerous. I lived there for a few years and after a little while it was just what the water was like.

Never. And we've taken many trips there.

Unless you have gone to a doctor or hospital and been tested, you can't really say "I HAD food poisoning". All you know is something made you ill. Could have been food, could have been a virus, could have been the water, could have just been some freak situation... anything really.

As someone who has had diagnosed food poisoning and was hospitalized because of it, I know well what it is like.

Not at Disney, but on the way there. We went to McDonald's for breakfast before heading to Disney World. I got sick in the car on the way to Disney World. Dad had to turn the car around and head back to the hotel. Mom ended up getting sick to. We had to put off Disney until the next day.

DH did (we think) from the food court at POFQ. He had a burger with shrimp on it, and said the shrimp tasted a bit off, but ate it anyways. :rolleyes2 Was fine until late that night, spent the next two days hugging the toilet, and I had to drive home. We're fairly certain it was that, as we ate the same thing the day before at home, and for breakfast that morning. The only thing we got different was he got a burger and I got (IDK what it was, this was 2011). Poor DD#2...it was her graduation trip (during her spring break, as we got an amazing deal), and not only did DH get sick, we were stuck inside for that first day of him being sick, because of severe storms (including tornadoes).

We did get ill from eating at a Red Robin on the way to WDW; DH and I had a burger with spicy ketchup, and we both ended up sick the next day. DS was fine, having had regular ketchup. And once on the way home, from Boston Market. The food was not as hot as it should have been, and the store not quite as clean as I think it should have been, and we all got sick from that, at least we're fairly certain it was from there. No more RR or BM for us.

People often believe that it was the last thing they ate that made them sick; but it could be something they ate yesterday or the day before.

This is true. It depends on what is causing the illness. Staphylococcal aureus can cause nausea/vomiting/abdominal cramps/fever/diarrahea in 1-6 hours, lasting 24-48 hours. Vibrio can take 4-96 hours; cryptosporidium 2-10 days, and Hep A 15-50 days, with a 28 day average.
