Hello, I saw there is a very long multi part trip report from one person on the ABD DCL Med. trip but I was just looking for a short answer from anyone who did this trip recently. Was it good? Was it worth the money? I thought I saw originally on the site that the add on package was about $2500 pp but today on their site it said btwn $4500-5000 pp. Does that include the cabin or do you purchase that seperately? Do you book your cruise through DCL and then your package through ABD or is it all booked through ABD? Thanks in advance for your help. I'm thinking of doing this next year if they offer it, I do not see any dates for next year yet.

Hi, I'm assuming it's my Trip Report you're referring to. I'll try to keep my answer short! :goodvibes Yes it was good, and in my opinion totally worth the money. Of course, part of that was because I got a fantastic price on the cruise, I was cruising alone and really wanted the companionship and the ease and safety of traveling with the ABD Guides.

I noticed the prices today on the website, and I can't imagine what that is about. The add-on was a flat $2399 per person (I think it was a couple hundred dollars cheaper for kids). Unless they're already putting up the prices for 2011, and have greatly inflated the price? :confused3 We've heard the new schedules & prices for 2011 will be out on Wednesday, July 21 (it's been the start of August in the past, but someone who should know has told us this Wednesday...)

At least for 2010, the price was $2399, and did not include the cruise. You had to have booked the cruise before they'll let you book the ABD add-on (or you could book them at the same time). Everything was done through DCL. Although ABD ran the actual trip, DCL did all the administrative stuff.

Whether any of this will be different for 2011, I guess we'll see in a few days!

Actually, looking at the ABD website again, I noticed this:

Prices for this trip vary within these ranges based primarily on when you book and travel; they are subject to change without notice. Please note, the price ranges set forth below include double, triple and quad occupancy.
Adult $4,209 - $5,549

Child $3,789 - $5,009
This is all new. It used to say to call DCL for pricing. And the part I bolded is interesting. It *looks* like they may be including the cost of the cruise in the ABD. That would definitely be different. Now I'm really wondering. Either someone made a mistake working on the website in anticipation of the 2011 announcements, or they're changing how this add-on is run. Since this year was the first, and it was all a big experiment, I wouldn't be surprised if they changed stuff. I'd suggest you wait until after Wednesday before making any decisions.

It was your trip report and I meant no disrespect. I think it's great that you're posting all kinds of details for everyone. I think you're right, either it includes the cruise or it is greatly inflated. I guess I will check back next week. I really want to do this trip. It would be two adults, no kids. Would it still be good for us? thanks, Gail

There were several couples with no kids. They really seemed to enjoy themselves.

I saw on your report that there were some families... How do you think the children enjoyed it? Our kids will be 10 and we are thinking of adding this to our cruise. Great report!

Thanks, thetripletgang! (Triplets? Oh, my!)

It seemed to me that the kids really enjoyed it! There was no whining, no "I'm bored"s (that I heard). They kept up well, participated, and there was no walking around with Nintendos or any of that sort of thing. All the kids did seem to be "seasoned" travelers, but the trip did seem to hold their interest. Even the 2 really long days in Italy (although the 4 year old stayed on the ship for those).

The only time I saw kids not enjoying themselves was one of the older ones (maybe 16?) who got carsick on the bus on Corsica, and when the 4 year old realized the trip was ending and she wouldn't be able to see Robyn any more!

I vote for doing it!

Thanks...our gang is pretty "seasoned" at traveling...it sounds like it was a great trip. We can't wait!
