Did we really just buy DVC at BLT? Taking MIL in Dec! Acronyms abound!

UPDATE

So been slowly starting to collect stuff for the trip. Here are some great little wrist bands I got for my son in December. I read about them in parents magazine and ordered online. i forgot to put them on him most days, but will try harder this trip. I can write his name and my cell # on them in case he is lost!

I've also been saving extra change and dollars here and there for spending money. Since we are DVC, the room is paid for. Our flights are booked and I am almost done paying those off on our disney visa! We still need to order our APs and MVMCP tickets. Then money for meals. I did get a $100 gift card i have from when we used a referral for DVC. Plus about $200 on my disney visa rewards card, so we have a good start. I'll probably buy the APs on the visa too and earn more points. I found this cute little 'bank' at Easter at WalGreens! It was filled with candy, easter eggs and stickers, but it is a bank. I bought it just to use for our trip savings! I just thought it was so cute!

We also headed to the disney outlet store at Grapevine Mills mall about 20 minutes from home this weekend. They always have great stuff and I should have taken photos! I did refrain from going crazy. I only bought a disney pen (nice one) for $10, a scrapbook set for $5 and that was it. My mom bought more, including a big stuffed Tigger for DS. He already has a big stuffed Pooh (and 3 other smaller ones!). I did notice this TDS was carrying lots of disneyland park merchandise, which was a first. They had disneyland t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and even some nice collectibles. I assume it was all overstock type of stuff. But they had some good sales. nothing I really needed though. cool that they have park stuff now though.

Also- you might have heard the new disney stores are starting to open, the first one in California. Well we are getting one of the first ones here in Dallas at Northpark Mall, which is a higher end mall. it used to have a TDS, but it closed. So this should be fun to experience the new interactive store!

so that's it for now- about to start looking for a rental car very soon- i know mousesavers always has good coupons and codes! I am also prepping for my girls only disneyland trip in just 2 months. We got our ADRs booked this week. Waiting to book the 'walk in walt's footsteps' tour (a month out). very disappointed though that HM and TSM will be under refurb when we go sept 10-13.

You reminded me that I need to look at the refurb list. I hope I won't be disappointed--I know Star Tours will be under refurb (thank goodness--it needs it).

Another December tripper here! We will be in the world Dec 5-10 and are staying at Pop. Your DS is adorable!!! He and my DD are super close in age, she will be 3 on November 11. I just read your whole PTR thus far and I am loving it! As far as shows at AK, we are FOTLK people! We have tried Nemo several times and DD just doesn't like it nearly as much and starts to get restless midway through. I think b/c there is more action in FOTLK :confused3 I'm so jealous you are staying at BLT!!!! If we could afford DVC right now, that would be my home resort for sure. I saw that you (and several others) are doing MK on the 6th...count us in as well! Sorry for the hodge podge of thoughts, I just wanted to catch up on the past 6 pages. Feel free to hop on over to my PTR if you like. The more the merrier! The link is in my siggy. Can't wait to hear more!

here's what I found amanda:
December 2010
Magic Kingdom
Construction for the Fantasyland expansion has begun, necessitating the closing of several existing Magic Kingdom areas. Pooh's Playful Spot playground, Ariel's Grotto Character meet-and-greet and Scuttle's Landing have closed. Pooh and Tigger will appear in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. Enchanted Grove will now be open in Fantasyland for Extra Magic Hour mornings offering coffee and muffins. The Fantasyland pretzel cart will be located near Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Frozen Coca-Cola products will continue to be available at The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland. During this expansion, classic Fantasyland attractions, including "it's a small world," Peter Pan's Flight, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Cinderella's Golden Carrousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Mad Tea Party, will remain open.
Disney's Hollywood Studios
Star Tours -- Star Tours closed as of September 8. The attraction will be updated and reopened sometime in 2011. The new experience will be in 3-D, an all-new ride that includes many of the new worlds and elements from the more recent Star Wars movies.

looks like everything else is good. at least i get to do HM and TSM in WDW in December since i can't do them at DL in September. I really would love to see the special Nightmare before christmas decor in HM though sometime! I wish they did it at WDW. I am sad about Star Tours, we didn't ride this past December. DH has motion sickness issues and those types of rides with the movie are the worst for him. We are both big sci-fi and star wars fans, so looking forward to the new one though. It is about time!

Also- if you are interested in the Fantasyland expansion- there is a great thread on the theme parks board with recent updates and pictures, especially regarding movement of character spots.

welcome!!!! :wizard::hug: I really want to stay at Pop sometime, it looks so fun! One day we will! I want to stay at all of them. good points on FOTLK vs Nemo. He does know who Nemo is, but we don't have Lion King at home on DVD yet. of course my son won't watch a full length movie at home, too many other distractions with his toys. although i did take him to toy story without much issue. I think he would enjoy lion king more due to the action like you said, but i really want to check out nemo for myself too! :confused3:thumbsup2 I will definitely come check out your report too!! I cannot wait- how many days do we have now? oh- 4 months, 2 weeks and 5 days! ugh, such a long wait. But this summer has flown for me.

Subbing in! Your trip sounds really great! It looks like we'll be doing MVMCP on the same night, Thursday the 9th - sounds like a lot of DISers are going that night! :santa: I am so jealous that you bought DVC! That would be a dream to me, but I am thinking it's not going to happen for us...but that's ok! Really my next main goal is just to stay on-property on our next trip (which hopefully won't be another 8 years in the making...). Anyway...enjoying reading your plans - I really need to work on getting my itinerary posted... :thumbsup2

I love going to the store at Grapevine; we've gotten some good finds there.

I hadn't heard about that new store; I just opened the link you posted and am going to check it, though!

ythank you!!! how fun, there are going to be a lot of us there for that MVMCP night. I will try and schedule a meeting time and place soon for all of us. I know there is a great cookies/juice station in adventureland that is always dead or slower and would make a great meeting spot!

i know, i love it! we still need to find time to gtg here in Plano sometime for lunch or something! It's super busy for me at work right now, but maybe in august? Yes, I'll keep you posted if we see that warehouse come back- it was near Vista Ridge mall. I am on their mailing list now! ;)

Well not a WDW update for our trip, but a Disneyland trip update- just booked our rental car for it- a standard SUV out of LAX! So I know it is a 'side report', but here are our plans for our quick Disneyland weekend, coming up soon!

September 10-13
Cast: Me, Mom, Wendy (sister), Mandy (sister) and Nancy (cousin)
Hotel: off site suite
Flight: 6:30am, arriving 7:30am from DFW to LAX on Friday, 9/10 (my birthday!)
Return Flight: 4:10pm, arriving 9pm LAX to DFW on Monday, 9/13
Car- Standard SUV! hope it fits all our luggage!

So this is just a quick trip that was originally intended to be a visit to check out the D23 expo, but as you know, they have announced they are only doing the expo every other year. Well, bummer, but we decided to go ahead and go anyhow and just make it a fun little disneyland trip. None of us have been since I was a freshman in high school and well that was 22-23 years ago! So a lot has changed. Plus we only spent one day there that time.

We are looking forward to experiencing DCA and hopefully World of Color, as well as lots of shopping! Since we are sans husbands and kiddos, we can't wait to shop to our heart content without a nagging husband with a bored look on his face or a screaming toddler that is trying to knock down every toy on the shelf (okay, that is exaggerating, but you get the picture!). Plus, it is good girl time and my 37th birthday! My mom, sisters and cousin and I are all very close, like best friends. My cousin is my mom's BF and they grew up together and since she has no kids of her own and is single, she is sort of our second mom and is really a part of our family.

So we can't wait for this great little trip. It is only 3.5 days, but we have a lot planned. Here is our itinerary so far and we just booked our ADRs!

Friday, Sept 10th
EARLY morning with 6:30am flight.
Arrive 7:30 LAX- get car
Arrive DL area by9;15 or so hopefully
10am DCA opens, spend morning here
fast food lunch (any recommendations?)
take a break and check in hotel by 3pm or so
5:30pm- ADR for Steakhouse 55 at Disneyland hotel for bday dinner!
head to Disneyland after for fireworks, park open til midnight!

Saturday, Sept 11
9am- walk in Walt's footsteps tour (can't book until month out)
lunch included with tour
break in room in afternoon or DTD shopping!
evening at Disneyland again
dinner at Blue Bayou! 7pm
DL open until midnight

Sunday, sept 12
8am- Magic morning at DL (we are staying in neighbor hotel and qualify)
lunch at carnation cafe at 1pm
break and then head to DCA for evening- try and catch WOC
DCA open til 8pm so early night or DTD

Monday, Sept 13
8:30am Storytellers character breakfast at Grand Californian
morning where ever we want- both parks open at 10am or shop at DTD
head to airport by 1:30pm ( for 4:10pm flight, is that enough time?)

So what do you think? it is pretty packed in, but if we find we have seen most of what we want, then we might head to hollywood or the beach for a few hours. Who knows. without kids, we can be more flexible and just go, since we have a car!

We are very excited about the tour too- again something that is hard to do with the kiddos. So any tips for disneyland?

we had a busy weekend- pool party/company barbeque for my DH's company- it was at his boss' huge house, with bounce house, snow cones, face painting, balloons etc. Pretty good for a company of about 30 people! Pooh had a great time! He loves the water!

I am heading off to Vegas on Saturday morning for 4 nights for work. Our big annual user conference and i am on the committee since I work in marketing and we basically put on the whole event for about 1500 folks. Should be interesting- staying at the Wynn, which is a first. Maybe one day I can say I have stayed at all vegas hotels! lol.....so far, Mandalay Bay (married there!), Caesar's (my fave), Venetian (lovely suites), Bally's, Sahara, Treasure Island, Mirage, Horsehoe, Golden Nugget, Lady Luck etc. I won't have much play time, but hoping we get in a little fun. We have daily staff meetings at 7am, which is no fun. So hopefully I will post up some Vegas pictures next week! wish me luck- maybe I can win a few bucks on the craps table!:wizard::laughing::confused3:rotfl:

Sounds like fun! I've never been to Disneyland (Texas and Cancun are as far west as I've been!), but maybe someday we'll go!

Wow, you guys sure travel alot! My DH is determined to get me to Las Vegas one of these days. Have fun!

lol- i used to travel more for work, now it is just maybe 3-4x a year, which is fine with me. the travelling for work gets really old, really fast. Although I did love doing Vegas or Orlando and every year we would have at least 2 shows in each place when I worked for a defense contractor. Every march there was a big show at the Gaylord, so that was fun- i would always run over for a day to the parks, usually with an after 4pm convention ticket at a discount too! or just go hang at the resorts to get my disney fix! lol. I can't tell you how sick my coworkers got of me asking them to go eat with me at a disney restaurant, even if just at the resort, although they all loved Cali Grill (who doesn't!) and the company picked up the bill! :thumbsup2:rotfl:;)

We actually have had a lot of trips recently though. My parents came into some money when my grandpa passed away and so they treated us to our WDW trip this past December. I also did the cruise last May. Then Disneyland in SEpt, WDW in Dec, vegas this weekend, San Fran for work last month and we are planning a trip to Gatlinburg, TN, all 12 or so of us again for next June- rent a cabin for a week - my grandpa wanted to take us to do this before he passed and never did, so we will do it in his memory! Plus planning for Oct 2011 at WDW for food and wine! DVC makes it possible now! :)

looks like you have quite a line up yourself- have you already booked the Disney dream- it looks amazing. we need to add a cruise on our list. i am hoping the Fantasy comes to Galveston. There are rumors it will either dock in NYC or Galveston. Galveston is about 4-5 hours from us, so would make an easy drive! :thumbsup2

Well, i am just going crazy wanting to make some changes or updates, but behold, can't do anything until the candlelight processional packages are available or until they announce ADR availability of the new Hacienda. DH also wants me to book a WISHES dessert party (we did it last year), but I fear they will be sold out. We have to find out if his mom is inviting someone else and if so, who. I don't want to buy 5 tickets and then find out no one else is coming along and we only need four. If it is sold out, no big deal to me. I did enjoy it last year, but i could pass on it this year. The only night we could do it would be our MVMCP night on 12/9 and i am hoping to meet up with some DIS mom friends that night!

So here's what is planned for our arrival day so far- let me know what you think!

Saturday, December 4, 2010
3:30am- rise and shine sleepyheads
5am- arrive DFW airport (about 20 minutes away from our house)
6:30am- flight boards
6:55am- flight departs DFW
10:20am- flight arrives at MCO, pick up rental car
11:30am- to DTD for lunch at Earle and shopping
2pm- head to BLT and check in, leave bags, explore and settle
4pm- head to Epcot by monorail from BLT/CR!
8pm or so- dinner at Hacienda with view for Illuminations!
Currently i have booked Tutto Italia and R&C as backups, but will cancel if i can get Hacienda. not sure which one i will keep if not.
9:30pm Illuminations

It is going to be a LONG day! MY MIL is coming in the night before- but i hope early enough that we can all grab some quick dinner and get to bed early. but who can sleep the night before? :confused3:rotfl: With a 3:30am call time, i better find a way! I haven't figured out if we are going to park the car, take a car service or try and get a family member to drop us off. I am hoping the latter, but that is a BIG favor considering the hour! But I bet my trusty dad would do it for us!

it is a long day, but i did plan some 'break' time at the room for about 2 hours to settle in and just relax a bit. We won't go too crazy at DTD either, just take it slow.

That is so weird. Our family is also planning on renting a cabin in Pigeon Forge, probably for a weekend in the fall (10 of us). My FIL wanted all of us to go in the spring, but he passed away somewhat unexpectedly before we could get a trip together. So we were going to do it in his memory as well.

Yes, we booked the Disney Dream and are so excited! I've never been on a cruise before. I hear ya on wanting Galveston, but I saw the same article and am wishing it docks in NYC! I think it would be so beneficial for Disney (and me!) to get cruise-ship presence in the East Coast. We'll see who wins! haha..... :lmao:

Hi there.....I've been lurking for awhile now...decided to say hi!!
Your plans for WDW and DL sound great. I live about 30 mins from Disneyland!! And your dining plans sound great.:thumbsup2 At DCA they have some great fast food choices....Especially near Fishermans Warf! And you will enjoy WOC...it is an awesome show. we just saw it for the 4th time last friday! I'm not sure how they will work it for the "off" season..but right now you need to get fastpasses in the morning in order to get viewing seats. And you will get wet the closer you are to the front. Hope this helps......sounds like you will have a great trip!!

Dec 4 looks busy, but fun! Where is Hacienda--is it at the Swolfin? What I really can't wait for is your tr and pictures of BLT at Christmas!

You're going to have to give me any DLR tips you come up with when you get home! (Some exciting news for me regarding DLR over in my PTR!!)

I agree; we need to figure out something here. Just let me know when your schedule calms down!

so funny! we will probably stay in the gatlinburg or PF area! mom brought cabins pics for us to look at this weekend so she can book this week. Probably going around mid june! that is so nice you will do it in his memory! :grouphug:

The Dream looks amazing! i had never cruised before either- but did the DIS podcast cruise last May. it was amazing for my first time cruising, much less on disney. Castaway Cay is just beyond words. had a blast there- snorkeled and hung at the adult beach. The ship was so fun and so much to do. I can't wait to take my little guy!

and where do we get the FP in the am- i think they said at the grizzly run rapid ride or something? what is the best way to get over there? looks like TSM is going to be closed while we are there. bummer! any other good DL tips as far as what to hit earlier in the am to avoid lines etc? anywhere outside of DL we should consider seeing? Thank you so much for reading (and posting the great tips!)

Very busy! lol.......and such an early morning- we are going to ahve to go to bed really early, but you know I will be too excited to sleep. :rotfl: the Hacienda is the new Mexican restaurant that is under construction in front of the mexican pavilion at Epcot- the old Cantina. it will be called hacienda de San Angel. I know the hacienda will serve dinner only and have Illuminations patio seating. I believe there will also be the Cantina side that will serve lunch/dinner fast food as an option too. it is set to open in September and I am anxiously awaiting them to open up ADRs for it. we'd like to get a ressie and watch Illuminations from the patio!

Well it was a crazy busy few weeks here at work. We hosted our annual User Conference in fabulous Las Vegas at the Wynn hotel. I left on a saturday am flight last weekend (7/24) and was in vegas by lunchtime. Believe me, it might sound fun and glamorous, but it isn't. For those that travel for business, you know all too well. Saturday was spent stuffing bags, organizing and printing 1200 name badges and preparing for registration. We did get in a nice dinner at Switch on Saturday night and then hit the town for a bit. We walked down to O'Shea's, a total dump of a casino, but its fun (i've been there many times). The table limits are more manageable there, not $25 minimum like everywhere else on the strip on a sat night. I quickly lost $100 on craps ($10 min). We had a few drinks and I was back in bed by 2am, which felt like 4am my time. ouch!:scared1::laughing:
ry%3D400

Sunday was more work- subcommittee meetings, registration etc. Sunday night was our opening reception and i went to bed early after that. I was pooped. Monday and Tuesday were classes and sessions all day and I was busy fitting in video and photo shoots of customers in between. We did have a great event on Monday night, an 80s party with a great 80s band called Tainted Love based out of San Fran. They were fabulous. We (marketing dept) really had a blast dancing the night away and dressing up. Customers were very creative in their costumes too- there was a Michael Jackson, Pee Wee Herman, Boy Gorge and a whole team of Pac Man and associated icons!

Tuesday night was my last night in Vegas- we had a great staff dinner at Wolfgang Puck (hello disney reminder/reference! lol) at the Aria, where our event will be next year. Had a great meal there- the courses just kept on coming. Then we did some gambling at the Monte Carlo, where I finally found a $5 craps table (something I can afford). I started with $50 and got up to $250, winning back what I had lost! so pretty much broke even with what i had lost on slots. We stayed out until about 2am again. which is WAY late for me. I am in bed by 10pm and asleep by 10 or 11 most nights.

It was a good trip, but totally exhausting! Caught a flight home at 11am on wednesday and was back in the office Thursday. Still catching up.

Really missed my boys too, but glad it is over until next summer. :thumbsup2

now i can put my concentration on disney again! :cheer2:

Those pictures are so cute!! I wish we did something like that for work; but yeah right, at a law firm? Ha ha ha!

Hoping to meet up soon!!!
