PLenty of folks will always be sure to note what went "wrong" with their vacation, who amongst their party was "obnoxious", how many park rides were down, which CM was rude, which countertop had crumbs, which bed squeaked, which shower had mold. Either the bed was too hard or too soft, the porridge was too hot or too cold... you get the idea! And all of these reports can happen ANYWHERE -- just check the regular resorts board, or ask the average traveler about ANY hotel stay they ever had. You will surely hear the negatives they encountered. These aren't things that are exclusive to DVC, or WDW, or even hotels -- I pride myself on a pretty clean, nice home, but I'd be willing to bet that if we invited trip-reporting guests in for a week, they could find plenty to grouse about!
("...and the family room always had FAMILY in it, talking and making noise! And the walk to the bathroom was at least 10 feet long. Our room wasn't ready when we got there -- something about still needing to move some of the family members around to "accommodate" us -- what's with THAT? And the room -- well, the bedrooms weren't nearly large enough, the decor was Early Elementary School Kid which I did NOT care for, and frankly, I found the flight of stairs to be a real big pain in the buttookus....")
Let's face it -- reports of "Wow, my family members were all so tolerable!" will not get nearly the attention that a Jerry Springeresque tale of "Families Behaving Badly" will get. Just take a look at the Trip Reports Board. People just love to feel that righteous indignation! And in the essence of "tellin it like it is", we have become a society that tells it only like "it was wrong". We leave out the good stuff -- the positive stuff -- because that's supposed to be a "given" -- anything short of perfection should be reported to the authorities! And let's face it, if someone reported that they had a few things happen, but they still had a GREAT vacation, and listed all the great things -- what will people post afterwards? Questions, wanting details about what went wrong and why!
That sad statement of society said, we have always found our DVC trips to be awesome! We ALWAYS request NS, and thus far many trips later, have gotten it. Same goes for my DVC sis. And I should note, too, there is a whole entity of DVCers who still don't know about the DIS (And even if they did, wouldn't necessarily post!) My sister is one of them. DVCer and proud of it since 93... but she's no DISer. And she has had some AWESOME DVC vacations (WDW, of course, and HHI, but also Tanque Verde, Hawaii, Stowe, Trapp Family Lodge, Claremont). My DH and I would normally be moderate or value travelers, but DVC lets us live like Deluxe! And yet, we can do it at our level of comfort (for example... DH is allergic to valet parking. Viva la SSR and OKW! I love the idea of a mountain cabin getaway, but DH says he be bored silly just stuck in some hillside lodge -- hooray for VWL!) There is something for everyone. And DH loves the beach and the waterfront (but I prefer a pool, thankyouverymuch... yay for Beach CLub and HHI!) I could go on and on and on....
Give it time -- you will be the same way, too!
Relax, enjoy, experience the magic for yourselves!
