Did we get robbed?

We just returned from the 1/24 eastern. Had a great time - I've posted a partial trip report over on those boards. But after reading some posts, I'm wondering if we were "snowed" on our ST. Thomas excursion. We were on the 5 Star Snorkle Beach Adventure aboard the Leylon Sneed. We were supposed to go to Trunk Bay which we were really looking forward to. Halfway through our ride over to St John the captain announces that the waters are too rough at Trunk Bay and that the visiblity was poor for snorkeling. They'd called ahead to the lifeguards, they said. So we were detoured to St. James island and they made a big deal about this being a private island - and it was for sale - and that some of the crew thought it was better snorkeling than Trunk Bay. We thought it was mediocre at best. We saw two rays, a couple star fish and a handful of fish. And the beach was not great at all! Now I find out that someone else on our cruise took the ferry and taxi to Trunk Bay at the very same time (and for less money!) and had a great experience. Clear water, fabulous snorkeling, fantastic beach, etc. I think I've read here that this "detour plan" has happened to others. Did we get robbed? Is there a reason this excursion doesn't always meet its itinerary?

Sorry to hear about your detour. I was thinking about the 5 star snorkle but, now i think i'll do it on my own.

Don't forget there were EIGHT (8) ships docked that day! Could get a little crowded at some of these excursions. I would also be asking questions!

Good Luck!

This makes me think that one of the crew members wanted to visit the private island that day for some private reason (girlfriend, maybe?), and he took you along for the ride!

You really have no recourse with the people who were running the boat that day, but you can complain to Disney to make sure that the ferry operators don't pull this type of money business again. I would write to Disney and let them know the details of your excursion. They should be aware that their sub-contractors (right word?) are doing these things -- after all, it hurts Disney's reputation when they (through their island contacts) don't come through with what they promised.

I think you guys are right - a letter to Disney is probably my best recourse. I just don't want others on this board to be disappointed when they don't get to see Trunk Bay. I know that trip has been written up here as one of the most popular and one of the best - that's why we signed up for it. But now I know of two different weeks when they pulled the "we're going to beautiful St. James island" instead. I'm happy for those of you on the 1/24 cruise who got to see this beautiful spot on other excursions or on your own. It sounds fabulous! Guess I'll have to get back to St. John's someday! ANyone know who I should contact at DCL?

Sort of Felt that way when we paid for the JEEP registered trademark... tour on Cozmel and we showed up and they where all GEO Trackers...... and i did voice my opinion at the excursion desk and it was noted....
Also felt that for $85.00 per person that we should have had our own Jeep and not have Been put into a jeep with 2 others

did not know that until we got to the line for the tour....

was still a good time however but just left u a little puzzled.....
