We just returned from the 1/24 eastern. Had a great time - I've posted a partial trip report over on those boards. But after reading some posts, I'm wondering if we were "snowed" on our ST. Thomas excursion. We were on the 5 Star Snorkle Beach Adventure aboard the Leylon Sneed. We were supposed to go to Trunk Bay which we were really looking forward to. Halfway through our ride over to St John the captain announces that the waters are too rough at Trunk Bay and that the visiblity was poor for snorkeling. They'd called ahead to the lifeguards, they said. So we were detoured to St. James island and they made a big deal about this being a private island - and it was for sale - and that some of the crew thought it was better snorkeling than Trunk Bay. We thought it was mediocre at best. We saw two rays, a couple star fish and a handful of fish. And the beach was not great at all! Now I find out that someone else on our cruise took the ferry and taxi to Trunk Bay at the very same time (and for less money!) and had a great experience. Clear water, fabulous snorkeling, fantastic beach, etc. I think I've read here that this "detour plan" has happened to others. Did we get robbed? Is there a reason this excursion doesn't always meet its itinerary?
