Did the free magic bands change to black border?

I went into the customize your magic band section of MDE this morning hoping I could finally get my daughter a purple one and noticed the pictures show a black background.

Has anyone received any magic bands in the last couple days? Did they really switch from grey to black?

I don't think anything has changed its just the coloring of the animated picture.

Purple is currently only available at the customize location in Tomorrowland. It must also include some sort of graphic or personalization.

I"m not talking about purple and where to get it, the "adult" part of the bands were grey, but the pictures shows black today. (but I haven't looked in a couple months).

Ours looks the same. Just kind of a gun metal gray. Not black.

I really don't think the pictures have changed. The dark grey probably does tend to look black in an animated online picture.

I do know that Disney has been implementing a change in design to their current Magic Bands. They're focusing on being lighter and thinner. Also of note that they're improving battery life. I did see one reference to a black band in an article here: http://www.magicbandcollectors.com/...new-limited-release-purple-bands-also-coming/

It very well could be a design change. The photo you share isn't immediately clear though.

Yes that is true I have seen things about the slimmer lighter magicband design.

The purple magic bands are still gunmetal grey, but definitely thinner and lighter and slightly different shape.

I've attached 3 pics showing the band difference between purple and the standard pink. The first 2 show the band. Purple is on the bottom and noticeably thinner. It is also softer and more flexible - likely due to thinness as material feels the same.
The last pic is of the "body". Purple is on top. It's slightly flatter with a gentler curve to the band.

I got my new pink band in the mail yesterday. I noticed the black. I was going to decline the band but I read about people getting a luggage tag with it. So I ordered it. No tag, I tore the box apart.

what do you mean you're not talking about the purple and where to get it?
your first post specifically said you went on MDE to see if you could finally get your daughter a purple magic band.
the PP was just letting you know that plain purple is not an option as of yet.

i just got my magic bands in the mail today.
the portion that you can remove to make it child size is dark gray just like previous ones i've received.

My new magic bands for Thanksgiving are identical to last year's. I put my wife's blue one side by side with last year's blue one and she couldn't tell the difference.

Same here. I think the color change is more about the photograph than the bands themselves.

Then how do you explain the comments above where people have physically received bands which have a black liner? Are their eyes playing tricks on them?

I don't think their eyes are playing tricks on them. Lol. I think that slate gray and black are very close. They look even more similar in photographs. Plus the creation of the magic bands, while standardized, is imperfect. I have 5 magic bands my wife and I accumulated over the past couple of years - we had 6 (3 each, but gave one away). Some of them have darker liners than others. One of my older ones has a darker edge than the one I received earlier this week. Some of the older ones are darker in some portions and lighter where they faded a bit. Interestingly, my oldest magic band has the blackest edge when compared to the others. I still wouldn't call it black, but it's a very dark gray. But who knows....

Is it possible that there is a transition period and some will receive black liners and some grey until the old stock is depleted?
