I have a 3 yo and almost 2 yo. I was so worried because I knew the crowds were going to be crazy so we got up at 5:45 to get at the park by 7, monorail by 7:30 and rope drop by 8:00. It was the best decision ever! I had to hold back the happy tears because the look on my daughter's face when the characters came in on the train was priceless. It was our first impression and it set up the magic for the whole day. I have more advice if you want to see the characters first thing. THey come out of a door that is to the left right when you enter the park. We were just standing there looking at the map and there went Mickey from the train ride and he said hi to us and then came out pluto, daisy, pinocchio, etc. We were the only ones standing there and while we couldnt get pics, it was so cool to get to say hi to them all alone. Then, we took the train all the way aroung the park because we thought we'd do the back of the park first without realizing it wouldn't stop in toon town and basically did a big circle but lo and behold we caught a glimpse of Snow White at the entrace in a little hidden place directly to the right of the train station. We got to walk right up to herwith no one behind us and we took our time, got the best pics with 3 yo DD and I again had to hold back the tears from our magical experience. the CM said if we wanted to see the fairies to go right then and so we did and we saw the 3 fairies and 3 princesses with NO WAIT! This is supposed to be the busiest week of the year, right? Well we also did the mini roller coaster by ourselves and could have gone on as many times as we wanted. Basically, we did everything we wanted to do in the morning and the longest wait all day because of getting there early and smart use of fast pass was 30 min for magic carpets. IT was an awesome first day and I couldnt have planned it better. Thanks everyone for your advice and thanks for the tip on the baby center with changing tables, awesome! THis was way longer than I anticipated. My main point is, get their early and you won't be disappointed because it does get absolutely packed by lunch time.

Oh, and I think we were the only ones who knew about rope drop because everyone was huddled at the gate and we were waiting front and center and when they made the announcemnt, they all came running. I felt like the best tourist ever and it was because I read about it on this board.

i was their last week and at ak they did the show for emh mornings then at 9 when the park open to everyone they did the show again. I thought it was nice they did it twice so no missed out on it.

That is the first time I've ever heard a report of that happening at any park.

Can you please tell me what was the date that you were in the park?

Were you at the gates for both shows?

I love rope drop at MK, it's the only park that I make sure to be at for opening.

Wow, that's awesome. They never used to do it twice for morning EMH and I always hated that since we don't take advantage of am EMH. I hate missing the MK opening show!

We are morning people so we are usually at rope drop. That being said - one of the most magical parts of our trip last year was seeing DD 2.5 at the time's face when the Casey Jr. song came on and the characters came out. She just stood there- mouth agape and pointing in silent joy for about a minute and then just starting screaming and yelling hi to all of the characters.
Now we know we have to make rope drop at MK becuase DD always asks to see the "Casey Jr. train" again!
Thanks for the tip about the characters once you got off the train....

It was last Monday the 13 got their at 8 am they did they show by the gates with minnie goofy and Pluto in the truck. Then when I left at 9 they had everyone stop again by the gates and they was doing the show again. Mybe it was a one time thing but they did it twice. They usually did it by the tree of life but this time they did it in front after you entered. Mybe thy did it twice that day to do something specail i not saying thy do it every time they have emh or at every park all i say is on monday the 13 they did it twice. I got their at 8 walked around had brakfast at pizzafaria got the 20 percent off coupon decide to go to dtd as i was leaving at 9 am go to the exit and it was full of guest waitin and watching the show. With securty and other cm i know you work fr disney s i am sure it be easy for you to contact a cm that works in the front gate that can say they did it twice.

You couldn't pay me to get up at 5:45am on vacation. :)

In all our trips, we've never done rope drop and never felt like we missed any magic. :wizard:

I'm glad you were able to do things you wanted with little wait.

1- They moved the Rope Drop Ceremony from that Tree of Life location about a year ago. (Late Jan.- early Feb., I think.)
2- That's why I asked you the date. Thanks for replying.
3- No, I don't work for Disney.

The reason I wanted the date is so that if there are other reports of it being played twice in one day, I can tell if the report came
from the same or different date.

sorry i thught you did my mistake i like this location better it easier for every one to see the show.

I can say I have seen the rope drop show at MK about six times and each time it makes me cry with joy when the train pulls into the station and all the characters are waving, etc.

It just sets the entire tone for the day.

We love the rope drop shows. Another favorite of ours is the one at Toontown since it opened after the park does. Nothing makes you smile more than Tigger grabbing our two kids hands and skipping off towards Toontown!!

We have not made it to rope drop yet. My family are not early birds & we also have a 1 hr difference in time zones. We usually arrive at a park around 9:15 am. One day I hope to, but right now I won't pull my little ones out of bed early for it. Then we end up w/crabby kids the rest of the day.

It is awesome! Everyone should do rope drop at least once at Disney - at the MK particularly - it is fun to be there early and see the opening show and the ride waits alone are worth getting up early on vaca - just once. :)

There are many things I have been alerted to by the DIS that I would have never "missed" because I didn't know they even existed...and this is one of them...Many, many people ARE missing something special, in my opinion. :goodvibes

Jealous! We missed rope drop by just a few minutes yesterday and today at MK. My kids are earlybirds anyway--the weak link this trip was my mom. We'd be all ready to go both mornings and she'd have some kind of delay that I had to either have a conniption about or just let go. I chose letting go, and I'm glad I did--I love my mom!

I totally agree with you about lines, the waits for rides were nothing for this crowded time of year. Only Dumbo took more than 10 minutes--we were using FP's and focusing on a small area of the park at a time served. Both days we left the park just as the crowds were getting crazy. We returned for the parade at 2:30 and were just stunned by how many more people there were by then. Still, we went to Frontierland and were able to get good spots. I know some people wait out way ahead, but from what I saw, those folks all had left gaps between groups. I think what makes for a reasonable amount of personal space between families over an hour ahead of time shrinks when there are just 20 minutes left.

We did rope drop once and I can say with confidence, never again. We did it because we happened to be awake and decided to head out. Anyway, we didn't feel the show was anything special and once it was time to go in, we were mowed down by idiot guests who mistook their vacation for the NY Marathon. Sure, it was nice not to wait for Splash Mountain, but we've gone on it before at other times without much of a wait.
