Did I read the prices right?

I went to disneyworld's site, went to Tickets, Tickets Only, just chose a number of people and number of days, and it shows me the chart.

The price per day for a 4 day ticket for an adult is 53.00 (kid 44.50)

Okay - going from ONLY this chart that says tickets ONLY are $53 per ADULT per DAY...

According to the advertisement it says that price for a family of 4 start at $57 for a 5 night stay (at a select value resort) AND a 6 day ticket and FREE plan....

SOOOO to me it looks like you're actually staying in the hotel for FREE along with the dining plan being free....

SEE? I AM missing something here!:sad2:

Come on now I wanna get this so I can use that lightbulb smiley! LOL

You will pay more than $57 a day if you only get 4 day tickets - to get the $57 per day you would have to get 6 day MYW base tickets.

I'm going to move this over to Resorts and Booking for the best advice and guidance from the experts in "Disney Math" :)

ok I give up - how bout you just do my specific math for me - I'll give you the exact #'s & let you figure it out for me! LOL

Cause naturally I don't have a family of 4 so it's not gonna be the same anyway,,,

Mine is a fam of 5 - 2 adults, 1 -10yo, 1- 5yo & 1- 2 yo.

Can you math wizzes compare the free dining to the without free dining. for the 5 days (just to make it easier since those #'s are given - it actually says it's just a 3 night min so that's why we were going for the 4 nights....)

Anyone want to take a bite at this for me?

Then I won't try to understand it! I'll just take your word for it & see if my tax rebate is enough for a trip or not! :teacher:

Well, once you're getting into specifics like that, if it were me I'd just go straight to disneyworld.com and do two things.

1st, go through the normal reservation section, and see what totals you get for the hotels offered at the times you want to go.

Then go to the beginning, find the Goofy picture with the "delicious" or 'scrumptious" or "whatever 'ious'" deal he's talking about, and that's the free dining link. Find as close to the same time and place as you can get with the free DDP package, and compare/contrast.

When I was compare/contrasting before and after they offered the deal, I ended with the same prices. Before, hotel plus ticket package equaled x dollars. After it was offered, hotel plus ticket plus dining equaled, you got it, x dollars.

At this point, when you want specifics, I'd drop figuring out the "add it up with a mythical family and divide it by days and people" thing, and just go straight to the horse's mouth.

Or just call them and have them look it up for you. :)

Good luck!

"delectable". That's what it is.

Because I find it nearly impossible to just leave a "here's how to do it answer" (my late 90s early 00s Amazon.com customer service training before customer service went out the window), here ya go as an example:

9/8-9/12, AS Movies. Standard room, 5 day base ticket (no hopping, no waterparks and more). 1252.82

Oh, nope, can't get a Standard room those dates for the Free DDP offer, so I went back in and changed it to Preferred room to match the Free DDP offer. So those dates, that hotel, Preferred room, 5 day base ticket = $1307.06

Free DDP link, those dates, that hotel, Preferred room, 5 day base ticket = $1307.06

Hope that helps!

It is correct if you meet certain lengths and have enough people. We are a family of 4- 2 adults/2 kids. We are going for 10 nights at a value resort and free dining. Our total price was basically $2000 and some change. So- $2000/10= $200 per day. Divide $200 by 4 and it is approx. $50 per person per day in our group. This is for hotel, 10 day tickets with hopping, and dining.

If we were going for the same length of time but also paying for dining it would be approx. $3000 (a little less but this is easier to divide)- which would be $300 per day and $75 per person per day. Which comes out to the $100 a day total savings for the dining plan. If you have more adults in your party then your savings would obviously be a lot more.

bumbershoot, you crack me up! I am up b/c I can't sleep and I so obsess over all things Disney that even for me, a math dummy, it makes sense. BUT oh those poor first timers! You are so kind to keep trying to help!

just thot I'd toss another example out there. My family stayed at POLY last year with free dining because. . .(drum roll please) (this is how my unmathmatical mind thinks) for roughly $300+/_ a bit a day for a hotel room (which we all know we pay rack rate for with a "free dining" package) and the size/age of my family (2 adults, 2 teens, 2 toddlers (one under 3 years) I could justify that amount for the room as the paid dining package would easily have cost me way more than $150 a day. so technically as I explained to my numbers man (DH!) it was like getting a really good deal on the POLY and getting meals for about what we'd pay anyway out of pocket for mostly counter service and junk on our own! He bought it and now I am in love with deluxe resorts I typically couldn't afford! :rotfl: and seriously does anyone want to bring up the whole you only need to buy a one day ticket to get free dining to this poor soul (OP we do love newbies and do try to be helpful!) but again unless you have old non expiry hoppers or bought your tics from Undercover tourist or something even that is unnecessary as yup, the price descrease per day is so fabulous. . .

so yes, bumbershoot, I appreciate your effort and your patience! The boards need you. Pray hard now that OP doesn't need to rent a double stroller:)

Okay, I think I figured it out.

Disney is advertising "per person, per day", but they're charging "per person, per night". Your trip is one night less than your days.

Thank you, you're very sweet. :)

I like the way you think, about the Poly and justifying the cost. Alas it doesn't work for us b/c the dining plan doesn't work for us when paid for, so that gets rejected when trying to justify paying for a too expensive place! Ach, being vegetarian and not big eaters (despite what my pants size says!) and having 2/3 of us with serious sensitivities to anything with "corn syrup" in the name (so many treats, most snacks other than fruit, many desserts, and even the ding dang Uncrustables are OUT for DH and DS (which means I don't even get a Mickey Bar unless I go and hide from them)) just plummets the value of the DDP, sigh.

But I'm glad it works for you!

I was thinking about mentioning the no-expire option and the max ticket, b/c it could be used on future trips (since the OP says they generally go 3 or 4 days, so they could get maybe 3 trips on that), but I got lost in trying to explain it. If the OP is interested in that...I hope someone can explain it to you. :goodvibes

Okay, I think I figured it out.

Ooh, now that is a really good point! I think you might be onto something! Clever little marketing people...

And don't forget taxes, however, I think kaytieeldr has figured everyones mystery.

QUOTE: SOOOO to me it looks like you're actually staying in the hotel for FREE along with the dining plan being free....

SEE? I AM missing something here! :ENDQUOTE

What you are missing is that the kids don't usually get "charged" part of the hotel stay....they are usually "Free" and the room costs are split between the two adults.

The way the promo is written, they are dividing the hotel costs, and ticket costs between everyone evenly.

I agree it's very misleading - but I guess in Disney's mind, the $57 per night made you look at the deal! :goodvibes

They based their figures on a family of 4:
2 adults, one junior and one child
5 nights/6 days
6 day MYW ticket (base)
Value Resort

Here's an example of how I think they came up with the advertised $57per person per day :teacher: :

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort
Check In September 15, 2008 Check Out September 20, 2008
Staying for 5 nights, 6 days
Adults 2 Children 2
Room Type Standard Room
Tickets 6 Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket
Package Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining
Special Rate August to September Magic Your Way Plus Dine Offer

Grand Total $1,354.00 (includes tax, insurance declined)

Now take the $1354 total cost and divide by 4 people and you get = $338.50 per person, total

Now take the $338.50 total per person and divide by 6 days (remember the ad does say per person, per day, not per night) and you get = $56.42 per person, per day

Voila! Hey, what do ya know, this examples even under $57 per person, per day! :cutie:
