Made ADR's this morning for our trip May24-May 31st, 2008, did not know that we would be paying holiday pricing for the character meals and such.:sad2: :scared1:

Where did you see that? The entire month of June is considered a holiday?

Am I reading this correctly.....

Food costs more on the holidays....I didn't know that:eek:

It has been reported that WDW will be charging a $4-5 "surcharge" on buffet and all-you-can-eat TS meals during these peak periods:

Nov 18 - 24, 2007
Dec 16, 2007 - Jan 5, 2008
Mar 16-29, 2008
May 25 - July 5, 2008

The holiday menus on wdwinfo.com show that the increase is applied to each meal ordered (the prices just go up during these periods).

Since most, if not all, WDW character meals are served as buffets or all-you-can-eat, their prices will be raised.

If you are on the dining plan, or you don't go to buffet meals, you'll escape paying extra under this policy.

Disney doesn't release official menus. There isn't any reason Disney has to give any notice if they're going to either increase prices or drop some of the lower priced menu items at a full service restaurant.

I wouldn't count on escaping the new policy by dining in full service restaurants.

Son of a gun! Am thinking about the DDP for our Jan 2-6 trip due to these increases.

The only holiday period I don't understand is the month of June. It seems like there should be a break between Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

We just got back from there. We were on DDP and yes, the meals were $5.00 extra because of the holiday. (Sit down meals) That has never happened before. Good thing we were on the DDP because it wouldn't have been worth it.

Sorry, I was out all day.

So are you guys saying that even the non-buffet type sit downs will have a surcharge? SHe didn't mention that.

The dining plan is looking more cost effective after this news.

That's why I said THIS policy. I am not precluding other policies coming up that would raise prices at TS restaurants (and maybe CS too) during peak seasons. This one applies only to buffets and pre-plated all you can eat meals.

There's no indication that ALL TS meals currently will be hit with a "surcharge" on the specified dates, but there isn't any guarantee that they won't just decide to raise prices. If they do, there won't be any notification when you make an ADR.

Wow, we are going mid-June and I am glad I read this. Does anybody know if the child rate for character meals will go up $5.00 too, or just the adult. I wasn't going to get the dining plan, but maybe I will!!

I think that they childrens will also go up.

Most people will probably not even notice the price difference. When you call to make an ADR for one of those restaurants, the CM tells you the price as if it were just the normal everyday price. The don't tell you that you are actually paying more for the same meal that someone is paying for in September.

I actually had to ask about the holiday pricing for our January trip, the guy I talked to didn't say a thing. :( The late May/June part is weird too, That's usually been a great time to go, crowds were low since a lot of school were still in session. Perfect temperatures. Wow, adding the dining plan to my four day trip is going to take it up close to $3K!

I know there are people who enjoy eating at Disney or maybe they just can't get off property, but with all of the recent changes I know our family will be eating most meals OFF property. There are some phenomenal restaurants with great quality food, (and it's much cheaper). Works for me!
