Did I Hear That Right? A Solo Adventure at WDW Updated 8/30

Very excited to see your TR as it all comes together. Can't wait to hear what you heard! LOL. As I travel alone quite a bit this always amuses me as a passtime.

:welcome: Thanks for following along. It was very amusing at times to listen to the conversations around me.

Here too!

I have never thought about writing down all the ... um... saying that I have heard at Disney! Can't wait to hear what you have for us!

Nini

Hi! :goodvibes I'm not sure what made me decide to write all the quotes. I think I just wanted to include them in the TR at first but then when I ended up with some each day, it just turned into a theme.

Can't wait to read all about your trip! One of my guilty pleasures is going on and pricing out solo trips for random long weekends....one of these days, I'm actually going to book it!

:welcome: I hope you get to take your solo trip someday!

Okay...I'm back and caught up.

Your "babies" are adorable; my mother-in-law had a schnauzer.

Sounds like a smooth flight despite departing a little late.

You did great with taking pictures from a moving bus. :thumbsup2 on getting your request AND your room being ready.

Thanks on my babies, I definitely think they are cute!

The flight did go well. I was worried when we boarded late but they moved us along pretty quickly once it started.

I was so excited to get my request and be able to head straight to my room. I've had great luck with the room being ready but not with room requests.

I'm in! You doggies are SO cute! :)

:welcome: Thanks for joining in.

Joining in. Can't wait to hear some of your quotes. I get great glee in what others say when they think no one is listening.

I'm having the hardest time keeping up with everyone's TR this week, but I made it here! :)

What Pluto room?

I was really hoping to fall in love with ASMu. While I enjoyed it and would definitely stay there again, I still haven't found my home resort.

We were not crazy about ASMu either....just didn't want to say that just in case you were a fan. :thumbsup2 It was just too loud and active for our tastes. Have you tried either of the PO resorts yet? We knew POR was our home after staying there this past time. :goodvibes We will be sad when Gabe outgrows that murphy bed.

Reading along - but had to comment on Eddie, since he reminds me so much of our Faith. We have three Springer Spaniels, one was born with only one eye (Faith). She is 6 now and has since developed a cataract in her remaining eye and only has about 10% vision remaining. You would never know it, as long as you don't move the furniture! She bumps her head once in a while as well and is MUCH more vocal since she's lost her eyesight.

No worries about being behind, I always am too! Click on the link in the intro (the blue underlined "Pluto Room") and you'll see.

I did enjoy ASMu, it just wasn't love at first site like I hoped it would be. I don't mind loud and active there were just a few small things that turned me off.

I have stayed at POR but that was almost 15 years ago on my Honeymoon when it was still Dixie Landings. Both Jim and I really liked the resort. I was actually going to book us there again for October but that was depending on saving money by using free dining. So for now, I have us booked at POP (Jim's pick but I'm not surprised because if he could, he would time travel back to the 80s and live there permanently). If free dining is offered, I will switch to POR. I've never stayed at POFQ and I don't feel drawn to it when I see pictures. I'm not the biggest fan of clowns and some of the decorations there creep me out!

:welcome: Thanks for reading along. I wish Eddie did better! Unfortuately he's not the brightest. He gets lost a lot and will just sit down and bark till one of us comes and rescues him. He had cataracts in both eyes when he was fairly young and we had the cataracts removed. He later developed Glaucoma and that is what made him lose his eyes.

If Jim finds his way back to the 80's can he send me some hairspray, they just don't make it the same these days LOL. and how I miss the neon and jelly shoes!!!!

Aqua Net baby!!!! You could tease that hair out to Timbuktu and it would stay that way for days!!! The only thing I miss from the 80's is the music...hair bands rock! :rockband:

I used to rock some pretty awesome 80s hair! Jim loves his hard rock and 80s hair bands. You may be able to guess his favorite band if you think about the names of our two boy dogs. The baby we had before Sierra was named Haley and she was also named after his favorite band.

How did I miss that link? :confused3

Wow! Impressive! :worship: I had a big collection of ladybug items back when I was a teenager (though not nearly as huge as yours), but moving several times made me downsize it to just a handful of things. Now I'm working on making my Disney item collection grow. :thumbsup2

Ding, ding ding, we have a winner!! :rotfl:

Love that you did a solo trip.

Thanks! I'm glad I can post those pictures on here where everyone appreciates my collection. People who aren't Disney fans just think I'm a little crazy. :lmao:

Room key in hand, I decided to head to my room to drop off my bag before getting something for lunch. I didn’t mention in the last installment where my room was. I had requested the Jazz Buildings and had gotten a room in Building 2 on the first floor. My hands were full so I didn’t take any pictures on the way there but as soon as I got in the room I started snapping away.

Big King sized bed all for me:

Mickey!

I loved this picture on the wall:

Oh boy, I wish I could have gotten this off the wall and into my suitcase (just kidding):

TV and small table in the room. The Mickeys on the table were a nice touch:

Shower and vanity (my room was a handicapped room which didn’t bother me at all. I actually loved the lower shelf by the vanity and used it the whole time):

Wall paper border:

Close up of the curtain that divided the vanity area from the bedroom. It had all of the Fab Five on it and I’m shocked I didn’t take another picture with Pluto in it.

After I finished taking pictures, I freshened up a bit and then headed out to find some lunch. My room was towards the middle of the building on the back side. I could see All Star Sports baseball section. Here’s looking to the right:

Straight ahead, the red in the distance is one of the giant coke cups at All Star Sports:

And to the left:

My room location was ideal. It was close to the front of the resort but was very quiet because I was on the back side of the building. The middle cut through to get to the walkway to Classic Hall was only three doors away and the ice machine was very close too. I was in room #:

They had replaced the slide locks with the RFID readers which I loved. It was so much easier to just tap your card when your hands were full.

This little fountain greeted me every morning when I left my room and headed to breakfast. It was very pretty but felt kind of out of place with the whole bright and colorful resort:

This is looking from the fountain to the main building and shows my walk each morning and evening:

This next group of pictures is from the Calypso buildings and the Guitar pool. The Calypso buildings are the closest to Classic Hall and are preferred rooms.

Here’s the pool bar, Singing Spirits:

049_zps24344241.jpg

It’s actually attached to Classic Hall. I stopped and looked at the menu but never ended up getting a drink there.

It was around 12 pm and since I was starving and had a 5:20 dinner ADR, I decided I better get some lunch before heading to a park. So I stopped here:

059_zpsed3e55f6.jpg

It was very empty so I went up to order my food. I got a girl who was “earning her ears” so it took a few extra minutes. I didn’t mind, she had to learn sometime. I got my food and headed to a table by the window. So what did I get for my first Disney meal? Spaghetti with meatballs:

050_zps04ebfe26.jpg

And for dessert, a chocolate chip cookie:

051_zpsed2c60f5.jpg

I also picked up my mug. I got teal in November so I decided on pink for this trip:

052_zpsd0e6735d.jpg

So what did I think of the food? It was just ok, not the best. The noodles were extremely mushy. I’m guessing they had been sitting in water for a long time since there weren’t many people eating there. The meatballs and sauce weren’t bad but nothing special either. The cookie was very good, soft and chewy which is how I like my cookies.

After I finished, I took some pictures of the food court since it was so empty. The seating area was long and narrow:

The purple booths along this wall became my go to spot for breakfast. They were always empty and gave me room to spread out:

The Singing Spirits bar also had a window on the inside:

058_zpsa9ae91d9.jpg

I headed out and towards the buses. The arcade was directly across from the food court:

060_zpsb6be2230.jpg

I walked down the hall a bit and the lobby was too my right. You can see a DME bus out the window. That’s where they drop you off and you come into the lobby:

061_zpsacf1b875.jpg

Maestro Mickey’s was to the right:

062_zpscd2c3827.jpg

I turned back and took a picture of the pictures that lined the one wall. They are all pictures of famous singers but because of the bright sunlight, I mostly got reflections of the wall across from the pictures. Then I headed out the doors to catch a bus.

I will apologize now and tell you I never made it back past the Jazz section to take more pictures. I had good intentions all week to make it back there but just never did.

Up next: Where is the Magic?

I like seeing all of the pictures of ASMu, as I've never been to any of the AS resorts.

I like my cookies soft and chewy too! Won't eat them if they are hard actually. :thumbsup2

Nice update. We never did eat at the food court our one night there last April (we did get a drink, though) becasue we couldn't time it right. But I do remember going in and the place was packed. :crazy2:

You got some great pictures. I tried to take pictures on that wall with all the singers and had the same issue as you.

I did like the gift shop at All Star Music.

All star music looks cute! The all stars definitely aren't my favorite values, but I do like them! Sports was nice for the short stay over summer! They're nice for what they are:a hotel room to sleep in,a food court to eat, and sometimes a pool if you swim.

Did you end up really liking it? Paige is considering switching to AsMu as it's cheaper when her and her bf go and I said I'd ask you haha

Lol oopsi knows hahha ....I love the pics of the wall reflection i think thats so neat!!I've stayed in the Jazz building twice,i love all star music n sports the movies not so much!

The AS resorts were ok, but I definitely liked POP better. There is nothing more disappointing that biting into a cookie to discover it's really hard.

It was usually pretty crowded in the morning. It was really empty that day for lunch but I was never around to see what it was like at dinner.

I kind of liked the picture with the reflections. I'm sure I could have gotten a better picture at night but I was always tired and ready to get back to my room at that point.

The gift shop was cute, I bought quite a few things in there.

Yea, I thought ASMu was ok. I'd definitely stay there again but I like POP better. Things I didn't like:
1. I thought the resort seemed a bit worn. The carpet in my room was in pretty bad shape. No stains or anything, just really faded.
2. I was slightly disappointed in the selection at the food court, it seemed kind of limited.
3. I really missed the mug washing stations like they have at POP. I had to go in the bathroom to wash my mug out each morning and I was not the only one doing that.
4. There were a lot of cheerleaders but they never bothered me. I know though that some people are bothered by them.

As you can see, it was mostly nit picky stuff. I had no problem with the buses and didn't think the ride from there to the parks was bad. I didn't have any problems with noise. The pool was never crowded but that was because it was so cold that week.

Yep she did know! I really like that picture too. I'm probably going to be trying out sports in February.
