Did DVC do anything special to make you say yes?

We have decided to purchase either through DVC or Hilton Grand Vacation Club. When we spoke to Hilton and said that we were trying to decide between them and Disney, Hilton came up with additional points at a lower price. Has DVC every offered anyone anything extra to get them to sign?

Nope, they don't need to. DVC is a product that has no need to be discounted, since they have no trouble selling it, and the resale value is higher than at any other timeshare in the industry.

How does Hilton work?? Do you have to buy into a week, month, or group of months?

DVC is the most user friendly timeshare available, in my opinion. You are not restricted to size of accomodations, you can go from a studio to a 3 bedroom grand villa, or not restricted on when you can travel. All I remember with other timeshares is that you buy a week, red, white or blue.

But if you do not plan on going to WDW at least every other year the Hilton or even the Marriot program would be better. DVC works best with DVC stays....

With Hilton, I can buy into Silver, Gold or Platinum weeks (seasons) for a studio, 1 and 2 bedroom.

We have kids and the oldest is 5 so we know we have a few more trips to Disney. We also want to travel to other places. How difficult is it to use our points to go to other places? Does it depend on what's available 7 months in advance?

If I had enough money, I'd like to own them both (Hilton and DVC) and Marriott, too. Maybe something with Starwood, also. ;)

No, DVC didn't offer any special incentives when we joined or come down on price. I would only join DVC if you want to stay on property at Disney. If you are wanting to go a lot of other places, Hilton might be better. Can you buy resale with Hilton and save money? If you did that, you might be able to buy DVC and Hilton. Check out the tug boards. Look under hotel based timeshare systems.

If I were going to buy anything other than Disney, it would probably be Marriot or Bluegreen. Just remember that neither of those will guarantee you an exchange into DVC, and exchanges into DVC are a bit difficult to come by.

Should this make it easier to use my DVC points to travel elsewhere? Hilton told me that Orlando is their number one requested spot (because of Disney) and that if I owned in Orlando, I could exchange anywhere else without a problem (because want to go to Disney). Would the same be true if I owned at DVC, since others would like to get in?

My guide tells me that I can travel throughout the world using the World Passport, but I've seen very few people talk about it. With our kids, I know we'll be vacationing at Disney again. This summer will be our 3rd trip in the last 5 years. But every now and again, it would be nice to go somewhere else.

We just bought through DVC and didn't look anywhere else. (Probably not smart) but Disney sells itself to me. It is a good strong product that is the best out there.

My mom had a bad experience with a time share never being able to go where she wanted to. (this was 10 years ago) she walked through DVC with us and LOVED it. That was enough for us to sign!

Oh yea and the fact the only place I EVER want to travel to is Disney! :)

:wizard: My number 1 buying feature was that they put it next to the magic, that was all I needed!!!! :wizard:

We just got back from San Francisco on our points and it was no trouble at all to use them. I don't know about overseas. We are going to look at Hilton later this to have both although I do not know much about timeshares other than DVC.

Yes, but I can't say what it was because I don't want to get my guide fired.

You should also determine whether you think you will trade your points to go elsewhere than your home resort. I own Polo Towers and DVC. DVC is MUCH cheaper to trade with (as they do the brokerage through Interval) than trading with Polo directly. Also if you want to rent the points out, you will get MUCH more for DVC than Hilton.

It may cost a little more but it is well worth it.

Yes they are... Trying for 2 years with my Polo Towers through Interval (and Polo is a RED 1-52 just like DVC) and not getting lucky at all was a big convincing thing in me buying DVC points. I love WDW property and have no desire to stay anywhere else in Orlando. EVen on Business, I tend to stay at Disney (although usually in the cheapies).

Disney doesn't need to sell DVC...people just come to the "Magic"! :thumbsup2

I think you might need to look at your vacation priorities and go with that.
I own 2 other timeshares, 1 in Cape Cod and 1 in Cancun + my DVC.

Well...DVC, for me, is for my Disney fix. ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I love staying on property and when I extend my visits and trade to Orlando...I just HATE the trip back, by car, after a night in the parks. :furious:

Even going back to the room to rest in the PM..is a hastle..and I dont do it nor could I imagine doing it with kids ;)

Don't believe that trading out of Orlando will be that easy. There are TONS of timeshares in Orlando and other locations will probably trade out easier like South Beach.

I like the Hilton Plan and it has some good things going for it. I may pick up a membership there some day in the future. If I EVER get enough DVC points. :p
