Did Disney ever want to buy Doctor Who?

I heard at one time Disney was gonna buy Doctor Who and I want to know if it is true? I know Epcot sells Doctor Who merchandise in the UK pavilion of World Showcase and that led me to think Disney was interested in Doctor Who but settled for Star Wars instead. Had Disney wanted to buy Doctor Who?

I had heard there was an attempt in the 90s to buy it with the idea of doing a doctor who ride/attraction but I don't know how serious it was.

I saw somebody with a dr who backpack at DL yesterday and was thinking how cool that could be.... a Tardis ride.

Found the article: basically a Disney historian claimed before Star Tours they contemplated a doctor who ride. Not sure if I buy that (maybe it was a backup in case Lucas said no)

I did see on youtube once Tom Baker did host a special of disney cartoons in character as the fourth doctor.

That would've been very cool if Disney would've bought Doctor Who in the 90's because they could've had a huge success on their hands
