Did anyone watch the 2024 VMAs?

My kids roped me into watching them last night but we had a hard time streaming the show as it was meant to be watched so we watched a livestream. But this morning I watched the performances on YouTube. It reminded me of years past. The performances were great. I just love Chappell Roan and Katy Perry.

nope but then again I do not watch any type of awards show. Just not my thing but to each his own

I watched the whole thing. I don’t know why. I really don’t enjoy most of those performers. I liked Eminem and Lenny Kravitz. That’s about it.

I loved the end of Eminem’s performance with the home movies. That song is so good. I’ve seen many things on social media saying that he gave us children of addicts the apology some of us never got, or will ever get, and I agree (obviously it is dedicated to his daughter but it is relatable).

I loved Katy Perry and Chappell Roan’s performances because I miss that theatrical pop show element. For a long time it was just dumb choreography and all of these random cameos and it felt hectic and corny. But the performances reminded me of the 1990s and early 2000s shows.

It’s true. There were a lot of performances last night, and I do generally enjoy those, even when I’ve never heard of the artist. But Katy Perry and Chappell Roan just rub me the wrong way.

I was an adult when MTV came along, and I thought it was pretty cool. But as music changed from rock & pop to hip hop I lost interest.

I'll admit awards shows are not my cuppa tea. I usually watch a few minutes of highlights the following day.

Likewise on almost all accounts, except the last. I don't watch the following day highlights, unless snuck in on a general news program.

Actually he addresses all of the children he raised in the song, his daughter, his adopted nieces and his brother whom he also raised. Incredibly they all have become solid adults by all accounts, despite the turbulence and his struggles with addiction. I know quite a few people who have frequently bumped into one or the other of them through the years and I've actually crossed paths with MM himself over the years a few times, occasionally with some of the kids with him. My experience matches with everyone I've talked to -- if you didn't recognize who they were you'd never pick them out in a crowd. Simply regular people going about their day, polite, no attitudes.

That's precisely the reputation his daughter had as a college student as well. Very different from the daughter of another native Michigander music superstar I won't name who was widely known as a complete diva on her college campus.

I knew it mentioned other people, but I didn’t realize who they all were.

Anyone else find it hilarious that MTV still has the VMA’s when they haven’t shown a music video in a decade or more?

Rarely watch any of those award shows. The same boring format along with acceptance speeches aren't of interest to me. You can look online after the show ends to see who won. Too many guests try to be comedians when they really aren't that funny. Others tend to tell a lot of inside jokes that make NO sense if you aren't current on whatever they are talking about. Musical numbers tend to be an effort to see who can do the most bizarre performance.
