Did anyone just see WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

I love this show, have seen every episode. This one really made me cry. To see the monument at the end, I had no words.

Which cable network is it on?

It's on TLC. My DH have been watching it since it was on network TV. My DH has traced his family way back but my great grandfather ran away from home in his teens and we are stuck and that's where my family name comes from. So huge mystery I'd love to solve, why did he run away? What could have been so bad that he NEVER spoke of his parents/siblings/where he came from at all? It was late 1800's when he ran away.

I love this show and watched the first 2 seasons on NBC. I didn't even know it had switched to TLC until I came across it last night. I watched the Kelly Clarkson episode on the website then Christina Applegate's when it was on at 11 PM. I cried at the end!

I love this show! I also cried at the end. I noticed that Delilah died young, and I did look her up on Ancestry today. I could not find anything. Was hoping for a death certificate. Did anyone notice her last name? I was wondering if she also had a rough adulthood.

Did anyone notice that there were three graves:

1. Father (Christina's great-grandfather)
Ovid Shaw Sept. 26, 1878 to Feb. 13, 1950

His wife, C's great-mother, who died around 1946 is nowhere to be seen.

2. Lavina Shaw (C's grandmother)
Oct. 9, 1921 to March 31, 1955 (died age 33)

3. Delilah Shaw (C's grandmother's sister)
Nov. 25, 1925 to Sept. 29, 1953 (died age 27)

So the great-grandfather makes it to age 71 or so, but his two daughters only live to 33 and 27????? Wow. We know what Lavina died of, but I am sooooo curious about Delilah.

Does anyone have access to Ancestry.com so we could find the answer? It is bugging me.

And the burial lots were owned by the grandfather (Ovid Shaw) and someone named "Constant." Remember her husband accused her of having an affair/living with a man named Michael Constant? There's a story there........

Thanks for all of this EMom.

I have to watch it and try to follow to the sounds of a treadmill. I have basic cable - do not get TLC. So down to the gym I go. With CC on and the noise of bikes, treadmills and weights slamming. I'm lucky I even catch the story. :rotfl2:

I too have seen every episode. And a lot of them are still in head. Brooke Shields, Gwyneth Paltrow and Susan Sarandon the most because like me they had relatives, and their actions/ways, that were difficult to understand and their search helped them understand them and their own lives.

Steve Buscemi was eerie. He has just eaten at the NYC restaurant the night before where one of his relatives had lived - same address. WT H?

And Kim Cattrall, I wanted to smack her grandfather upside the head. We have a Canadian version (only a half hour) but I think she was on the US one.

And Rita Wilson - CRIED - still affects me.

Okay, I need to stop. Could go on about them all. And I'm spoiling it for others.

Oh on one my own name was above someone's relative from the 1600s. I don't have a common name.

I have never seen this show. Thanks for talking about it. I'm definitely interested.

Great!

Wow. Interesting lives.

I saw the whole season of "who do you think you are" and loved it. I was very upset that they cancelled it. At that time, I found the following PBS website with similar shows called "Finding your roots". These shows are very similar to "who do you think you are". You can watch these shows online. It has people like Kyra Sedgwick, Kevin Bacon, Barbara Walters.

I also saw shows about JK Rawlings, Patrick Stewart, Rupert Everett, Jeremy Irons and others on BBC website "Who do you think you are" UK version. I know they are also available in Youtube or BBC website. The UK version is much longer and I think much better version of the US show. I know they are doing season 9 now.

I just watched it online. So touching. I know there is more to the story. Why was Michael Constant's name on the cemetery card? And, why didn't they mention anything else about him? I'm completely sucked into the story now.

In her obituary in 1946, Lavinia Weaver Shaw, Ovid's wife, is listed as interred in Riverview Cemetery. She may be buried with her parents, Jacob and Jennie Weaver.

Ovid and Lavinia had three children: Lavinia, Victor and Delilah. Deliliah's married name was Beshears, Victor is listed in Ovid's obituary as Victor Smith. The family had a very normal middle class existence in the Trenton papers - letters to the editor, birth announcements, letters to the editor, recipe submissions, illnesses reported.

Thanks for that info. I had wondered about C's great-grandmother and whether she might be buried with her family, since she was the first to die.

I thought Victor was Lavina's half brother, and since he had a different last name, I figured her mom was his bio parent and not her dad. I'd have loved to have seen some follow up on that.

I still wonder why Delilah died at 27 though..... Really, they could do an entire second hour on the issues of half brother Victor, why did Delilah die so young and just who was Michael Constant?

Thanks for your efforts!

It looks like I can watch it online. I am going to try this evening.

Thanks. :thumbsup2 Looks great, but I live in the ridiculous block every non-Canadian sent TV show (but we can watch US online on our own channels) . ALskjfdklfjladkfjdslkf. So frustrating! :rotfl2: Makes me want to whip my laptop! ;)

I have Tunnel Bear to change my IP but not enough - free version and limits.

I forgot to mention this! :thumbsup2 Thanks. That it is based on the British version.

We have a Canadian one as well but the episodes are so short.

Thanks so much Nicketti.:thumbsup2 Great information.

And WELCOME TO THE DISBOARDS. :goodvibes

So true. :surfweb: That would be great.

And there must be something about Michael Constant that they didn't want us to know. Seems strange to leave that part hanging.

So many of the prior episodes are playing in my head now. Emmitt Smith, the murder mystery of Marisa Tomei and Blair Underwood in general.

Why in general? Because I could stare at Mr. Underwood all day long! :lmao: :thumbsup2

Can't wait for Chelsea. Lisa Kudrow was on Chelsea Lately the other night and said that the higher ups were most pleased with her episode.
