Did anyone ever make the floam that someone posted about on these boards? Just wondering how it came out. I can't find borax. I've checked a couple of store and so far no luck. I am thinking of making this floam and selling it at my upcoming fair.

Hi I live in NH and I've found Borax a Demoulas and Walmart. I am interested in the recipe if you want to send it to me.

hope this helps.

Pretty much any grocery store, Target or Walmart should have Borax. Would you mind posting the recipe? We have a box of the stuff here and my DD loves crafts.

I would love to know how to make it also. DD drives me crazy asking to buy it everytime she sees it.

I'd love the recipe too!

BTW, here in CT I can get Borax at Target, Shoprite, and Stop and Shop - it is usually on the top shelf in the laundry area, like by Woolite and spray starch, etc.

I actually have borax used it for another craft project, I would love the floam recipe

Ingredients:
Did a search and this is what i found. I have not tried it yet!!

1 tsp Borax
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup glue
food coloring
1 cup styrofoam beads (grate from a packaging box)

Procedure:

mix borax and 1/2c warm water, seperate bowl mix 1/2c glue, 1/2 c water, food coloring, mix all together in a ziplock bag, knead 7 minutes, add styrofoam beads

What is Floam? I saw David Letterman eat some on a show last week. It must have been fake.

We just made the floam w/o the beads (Polymer) and it always seems to take more Borax than it calls for. I bought the box at Target for $2.39 and used the remaining in the laundry and it really whitens up the whites cheaper than Clorox 2.

Hi everybody. The recipe that I have is the one that mitushib posted. Has anybody tried this? I looked in Kmart and Market Basket for Borax with no luck. Thank you I will try one of the other stores.

KandiB47 - floam is a sort of playdough. The kids love it and it is very expensive.

Does anyone know if you use a lot of the beads? Also, they have two types of beads they have the miniscule ones and then they have the ones that are a little bigger. Smaller than the smiley faces.

Isn't Borax something kids should not be playing with???

I would love a recipe for it as well, since DD seems to love it, but is it safe? :stir:

Mitushib has posted the recipe. This is the one that I have and haven't tried it yet.

I never even thought of not using the Borax. I just figured that you are mixing it and it is only laundry detergent. Now you have me thinking. Does anyone think that maybe kids shouldn't be playing with it eventhough it will be mixed in?

Here's how we make it:
1 bottle of glue (4 oz)
1/4 c water
2 Tbsp Borax (or laundry powder w/borax)
Mix the first two, add a drop of food coloring if desired. Mix in borax, put into a zippered sandwich bag, seal and work together by squeezing. We had to keep adding borax to make it a good consistency to play with. If you want at the end you can add the beads to make "Floam"
Mix first two, add borax and mix again, put into a zipper sandwich bag

My youngest DS made some last week using Borax laundry detergent and he left it sitting in the bowl overnight so it got hard. I threw it away and soaked the bowl in some water. The stuff eventually melted away off the sides of the bowl. He did not put styrofoam in it tho'.

What do you do with it? Do you shape it and then put it back in the bag for next time?

The borax just works to 'rinse' through the other ingredients, but doesn't stay in the floam....just check it when your finished because sometimes a few pieces stick. You can easily pick them out.

yeah I've been considering it.

But my child is 3 and he still occassionaly puts things in his mouth, so the Borax makes me a little nervous.

I think I'll wait awhile to try it out.
