Did anyone buy DVC sight unseen?

We did a quick walk-through at BWV and bought at SSR during the incentive sight unseen.

Yes we bought in at ssr, while we was on the disney magic 2 weeks ago.

We are making our decisions about buying into DVC and thinking we will buy points at both SSR and either BCV or BWV. Like the option of the standard-view lower points rooms at BWV, but we've never stayed there. We stayed at BCV a few weeks ago and walked around the boardwalk, but that's as close as we've gotten. I know the rooms are similar, however, and we like the Epcot/MGM location.

Would it be stupid to buy points at a resort we haven't really seen? We've stayed at BCV and toured SSR, but that's it. I mean surely we wouldn't be unhappy with this decision? It is the Disney magic, afterall...isn't it?

Did anyone else buy at a resort they hadn't stayed at? How do you feel about your purchase now?

No stay, no tour, no brochure. Read up on DVC here on the DIS. Purchased five years ago and haven't regretted it once. Well, maybe once or twice - each year I get the maintenance bill! LOL!!

Not only did we buy site unseen, but site unknown!! We were one of the first way back in 1991. I had to carry araound "artist's rendering" pictures. Nobody believed t was actually owned, operated, and on Disney property. I can remember people shaking their heads. I'm sure they were talking behind our backs saying "poor things, they really believe it's Disney". We did everything through the mail. We had the last laugh.

Yes we kinda bought sight unseen too. We had stayed at OKW with daughter and her family(owners) and loved it so much we came home and bought BWV over the phone and then added on SSR before it opened, never regreted it for a moment. Carol :goodvibes

And now we all realize that you were the smart ones. We looked at the literature back around 1991, even had a guide call us. But we decided it probably was too expensive. It took us about 10 more trips to smarten up-10 more trips staying on property in non-DVC accomodations. Yeah, like that wasn't a lot more expensive. Oh, and we had to pay for our theme park tickets. Definitely not a wise decision!

Those are some of the names I called myself after not listening to my Inlaws(bwv) and my sister-in-law(okw) They would come back from vacation and tell my wife and I what a great time they had and that DVC was the best..And I would say YEAH YEAH I should get that...5 years Later in 2004 while they were at Disney, they called and told me the latest deal... Well I told them to have Bobby Corsello call me right away and I bought into SSR that same day sight unseen. I still call myself those names but it's not for my DVC purchase.

I would have to say ME! I have been through the Beach Club, to eat at Beaches and Cream, but that is it! Well, we have been to Wilderness Lodge too, but not the Villas. Never been to Boardwalk, OKW or SSR. Have only seen pictures! We aren't owners yet, but will be....working on one now.

We went to WDW for our Honeymoon back in 1999 - looked at DVC but decided we would never use it. I regret not buying it then but 2 years later, we went back and decided to buy then. We purchased what they were selling at the time which was WL. We still have never seen our "home" base. This summer on a Disney Cruise - we added on points at SSR - We have never seen the resort and probably never will. We love to stay at BW and alway sdo when we go back to WDW.

No regrets on buying DVC - we use it out here in CA at the Disneyland Resort and love it!

Yep, I'm another one. I stayed w/ my sister and her family at Beach Club, but swore I'd never buy. I'm single, no kids, blah, blah, blah. Last Oct we went to DW and stayed at SOG. It was then I realized Disney is for everyone, not just families with kiddos. Called for the info, not knowing about the great deal at SSR. Bought a couple of weeks later. Never been there; never took the tour. Just knew Disney magic would be at work and I'd have a ball. Sis and her girls and I are going home to SSR for my first time for MNSSHP. I'm going again in Dec for my 53rd birthday. No regrets. I'm as excited as any kid. :sunny:

I bought a VWL sight unseen, but I had stayed at WL many times, and I had taken a tour many years ago when BWV was just selling, so I figured the rooms had to be similar.

I wasn't disappointed at all!

Count us in! We bought VWL sight unseen, the closest we had done was walk through the main lodge! But we've never regretted it!

we did sight un seen SSR before it was even built...best decission ever.....

Sight unseen also! We fell in love with Disney in Oct. 2004 and made 3 trips after that in a 1.5 year period. We also LOVE DCL. We bought 400 points @ SSR last month and our 1st trip home is in May @ BWV 1 br for our anniversary. We haven't experienced Disney yet without the kids and are hoping for a magical trip!! We have reservations for dinner on our anniv. at the California Grill in time for Wishes! Angel

Of course we bought sight unseen months before SSR even opened. My wife and son went down in the fall and came home with a contract. So what did I do? Bought more points!!

We bought sight unseen twice!

OKW resale 2002
SSR presale 2003 (arrived at MCO by 4:30, had appointment with guide when we landed and before we even checked into our villa we bought an add-on at SSR). :thumbsup2

Sight unseen for us also, after our first onsite stay at PO in 1999 we decided never to stay offsite again. I haunted the Disboards and after persuading myself that it was the best deal went after a resale at OKW.
We signed the paperwork when on holiday in Morocco later that year and have never looked back. Our first stay in a 1 br at OKW blew us away. Since then we've stayed at all resorts except SSR.
Now DH even says when we have a bit of cash to spare we should look into more points! I agree wholeheartedly.

We bought site unseen...and dont regret the decision at all! VWL was for sale at that time, so we purchased 170 pts., did an add-on 4 mos later, before VWL sold out. And that was still before we made the 1st trip "home".

We have since added more pts to our VWL ownership. So buying site unseen wasnt a bad thing for us.

I would advice to buy according to the location you most think you would enjoy. OKW and SSR are located very close to DTD. Both are very quite resorts, very large and spacious properties. Keep in mind also that SSR contracts have an additional 12 yrs on them, definitely a plus.

BCV and BWV are located very close to Epcot, walking distance in fact. The walk to MGM is a bit more of a trek, but doable. I would say the addition of The Boardwalk restaurants and shops is what would lean me to either one of these. If staying at BCV, Stormalong Bay, is a definite plus for that one.

And our beloved VWL, the close boat ride to MK, is a big perk. The theming is wonderful if you like the woodsy, outdoorsy type of thing. Makes me want to watch all those old Westerns when I get back.

Good luck in your decision, either way. You will most likely love wherever you decide to call "home". And dont let me influence you one bit  VWL VWL VWL VWL VWL VWL :cloud9: Sorry, I was daydreaming a bit
