Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

Those weren't my words so no need to argue with me. I think they were referring to the infamous kiss anyway.

But it was the VMAs NOT the AMAs, which IMHO makes a difference. :)

I agree...I expect raunch on the VMAs, but not so much on the AMAs.

This type of thing is TAME compared to what you see on TV in Europe. I didn't like the performance cause I thought it stunk but I had no issues with it.

I am not surprised that ABC cancelled his appearance.

I remember what happened after the whole Janet/Justin situation and THAT was at the Superbowl! That changed ALOT of this for Radio, TV and Cable ie (MTV etc.)

They had to have a 3 minutes delay now where they never had that before and other things. Some are saying "oh its only because he is gay. Nope sorry, could care less about him kissing anyone it is ALL the other things that he did that were not approriate for prime time.

I was going to watch him on GMA, but now I'll just have to watch him on the Early Show. This changed NOTHING for me except for the network that I'll be watching ;D

Having searched for quite a while for link to the performance that is still operating I finally managed to complete the experiemnt and show my kids. All I told them was this performance was the subject of a thread on the DIS and I wanted to know their impressions:

DD12 watched about 1 minute before saying "It's a bad song, bad dancing and stupid costumes. I have seen enough to form that opinion, I am leaving now."

DS10 watched the entire thing "It's okay but it could be a LOT better. Especially the dancing and the costumes and the set."

Then they wanted to know what the thread is about and what peopel are saying. About the kiss (which DD did not stick around long enough to see) DS said "Aren't people over THAT already--two guys who cares gay people are allowed to kiss too." This was followed by DD chiming in that "Who knows if they are gay or not it's theatre."

Both kids think it is hilarious that anyone think anybody would see this and want to go out and have sex or dress that way. DD says it is the kind of thing she knows some of her friends are not allowed to watch--she doesn't get why parents who don't like it just don't let their kids watch an awards show on at night.

DD is now pipiing up saying (direct quote) "I don't even think kids would notice the sex stuff or it would attract much attention unless their parents were making a big deal out of it."
I don't think that many people have a problem with the gay kiss. You didn't mention what your kids said about Adam grabbing the other guys head and bringing it to his crotch. That's what I think a lot of people are having a problem with.

ETA: Looks like ABC cancelled his Good Morning America concert because he was so raunchy. Good for them. Thank goodness he didn't win American Idol. What a great idol he would be for America's youth.

I can tell you what my kids said about the headbutt to the crotch. Nothing at all. They thought nothing of it.

LOL... Good to SEE you LilIrish!!!

Frankly I found NOTHING cute in crooked mouth whatshisname and forgot him even BEFORE the show was over.

Adam... he's NOT forgettable, good or bad! :thumbsup2:worship::worship:

i'd like to forget Adam. i'll have to wait about 6 more months until people get sick of him or his career just tanks and then i think we'll be good.....:thumbsup2

so my DH finally said to me "show me this stupid performance so i can see what everyone is talking about" so i did and he goes "....that's what everyone was freaking out about? i'd be more offended by the bad singing!"

we also had a conversation about how younger kids don't really get all the "sexual" things that are in tv/movies to begin with and that it just goes over their heads. my husband said "if i were a kid i would have thought it was some sort of new wrestling move.....but then i can see where people wouldn't approve because all these kids would be going around doing it, thinking it was a wrestling move or something" :rotfl2: but i did agree with him. that's probably what some kids would actually do/think

And here comes The Miz* breaking out his signature move...the crotchbutt!

*I apologize to The Miz...you're the only wrestler name I know.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I didn't realize he actually BECAME a wrestler! Good for him! Sorry that was a little OT.

Did anyone hear what he said about his performance when he spoke with Ryan Seacrest?

He said that when he got on stage....his adrenaline took over and he admits that he went overboard. Now, if you are at your own concert that is fine...go crazy. You are on Prime time...it wasn't late night TV, that is 1130pm or later if I am not mistaken. He says he isn't a babysitter, but you know what Adam, there are rules and guidelines when you are on a regular TV station. ABC also stated that he did not do certain things in rehersal either.

You are not on broadway, but maybe you should go back.

i don't care if the guy is gay or straight, or who he kisses, the performance just plain stunk. the song was bad, the singing was bad, and the choreography was, at the very least, bizarre. i predict a short shelf-life for adam lambert's musical career, if that's what he's planning to give his audiences. ICK! that guy needs to lay off the eyeliner and hair products, seriously.

lolz!! could you just imagine tho?? ahaha! i'd die if i saw that as some actual wrestling move now!

tbh, first of all i don't believe ABC for a minute. they're just trying to save their own butts with that comment lol.

but yeah him saying "i'm not a babysitter" and he's said things before like "i'm not a role model" well..i'm sorry...but you are now. you should have thought about that before you auditioned for American Idol!

you're right, he should go back to Broadway, he'd be perfect there.

They flat out didn't notice it and did not mention it. Thus the lack of a comment about it from me here. I mentioned it later to DD as something that was really bothering people--because she kept going back to WHY are parents so worked up about this stuff (any kind of censorship--even jsut talking about how it should not be allwoed on network TV always bugs the heack out of her). We had to find another valid clip and watch it again because she did not remember the head butt (though she had watched that far). Her response was:
"THAT?! For like a half a second? Really? Okay, I know what oral sex is and I still would've never thought of that. I don't think most of my friends even know what it is. I mean I can see it now that you brought it up but I don't think anyone my age would notice it if you didn't. And I am definately not going to go out and start doing gross things just 'cause I saw that. I'm not going to go around wearing stupid clothes either. Does everyone on the DIS think kids my age are just stupid or something?"

lol well good for your daughter!! she seems like a smart kid!

that's the conversation me and my DH had, that kids that age probably don't even know what that was all about, anyway.

Thanks, she's got a pretty good head on her shoulders. Sometimes she's smart with it and other times just a smart aleck:rolleyes:

I totally agree that most kids don't get what it is. If they do, then they are hearing/seeing a lot other than just the one little TV segment and it might be good to have watched this with them and have a conversation.
Generally, if the adults don't make a fuss the kids will ignore this kind of stuff--but I bet because the adults did make such a fuss over this there are "bootleg" recordings of this at all the middle schools right now and they are all watching it:lmao: Sort of like when I got Purple Rain for Christmas in 6th grade. I paid no attention to Darling Nikki over break. I didn't like it much and did not think about what it meant. Then I got back to school and found out everyone else's parents had erased that track from their casettes before gifting it to them. Suddenly Darling Nikki became very important and we all had to listen to it over and over again and analyze it, etc. I STILL know all the lyrics to it and I still don't care for it--but I wouldn't have ever noticed what it was about had it not been the forbidden fruit in all my friends' houses.

Seeing it on a 40 inch TV is entirely different than seeing it on a little 5" screen.

It is almost like the dumbing down of our morals. Many don't even care that he and others are simulating sex on stage. They push the envelope until one day they have sex on stage and no one cares. I care, we won't watch the garbage.

You know, I would have actually liked the song were it not for the visuals. My 18 yr old saw right up to the head/crotch scene, said "what the heck" and promptly turned OFF the TV. Said that was enough for him. Will NOT be showing my DD any part of it. I asked her if she had heard anything about it and she asked me who he was!

Exactly! Just because more and more is tolerated on shows like Two and a Half Men doesn't make it "right". If all of this crap can be shown during prime time what message does that send?

Disgusted? Not so much as disappointed. I like Adam Lambert, always have. The guy has got incredible vocal skills...but you don't get to hear them when he performs this way. And sadly, this seems to be the way he now chooses to perform. Edgy? More than edgy I think. I think he went past the bounds of good taste. Even my 16 y/o dd thought so. We don't care for it when female performers are 'over the top' either. I didn't care for his song choice, the lyrics or the choreography that went with it. I thought it was demeaning to say the least.
But, an 'act killer'? No, not hardly. There will always be that group that says he is cutting edge and is incredible as a performer. Personally I don't think it takes a lot of talent to get up there and do what he did that night..it takes something else..which I physically don't have......:rotfl2:. But skill? Talent? No, not so much. I didn't even like his vocalizations that night. Sounded more like screeching than anything else. Just because you can hit those notes, doesn't mean you sit up in that range the whole time....it takes away from the overall sound.

Now....my dd forwarded a link to me, on Facebook, for a youtube performance Adam did back when he was 22, from Brigadoon. It was absolutely stunning. His vocals are incredible. It just seems to be such a waste to sing the way he chooses to sing nowadays. But, I guess that's probably only because I'm old and enjoy a beautiful voice singing more traditionally.

The only way he could have pulled off edgy quality of the AMA performance was to have just been great---great, unbelievable and soaring vocals, looked great--just stepped out and been great. Then his vocals would have taken the front, and the other stuff would have been background ( it would have come off as edgy rather than erotic and just plain nasty). Instead the audience got horrible, horrible vocals, poor staging and well the performance just fell apart.

I agree. I am sick of tired of singers going on television and making out during their songs. I mean, it is bad enough when Barbra Streistand starts smooching while singing; or Celine Dion; or Frank Sinatra; or Elvis, or..

Wait. I don't seem to recall these singers doing such antics on stage. Hmm. Could it be that their talent in singing was all that was required to get attention from the audience?

Stange concept. I shall have to think on it.
