Oh no worries. It was a BBB pic of both of my girls. I wouldn't expect anyone to remember it, but the thought that someone might see that pic scarred my DD far more than Lambert's AMA performance. lol

Okay, as an experiment, I let my kids watch the video.

My 12YO DD's comments: He looks gay. Whatever, I don't care.

My 9YO DD's comments: Not something you see everyday. I think Joel will make fun of it on The Soup.

Of course, this comes from children of a mom that lets her kids watch The Soup AND this performance. lol

yeah a lot of things really do go over kid's heads when they're at a certain age. if i was 11 and saw that performance i would have just thought he was shoving his crotch in people's faces and nothing more. i would have been like "well that's....kind of rude, but whatever" lol

i wonder if anyone freaked out when Shrek came out? remember when Robin Hood and his merry men were singing and there was quite an "inappropriate" line in there....however kids had no clue what it meant.

It usually does on the DIS There are a fw of us on the boards thoguh and we are all happy to have the title--along with smart and independent kids
andbefore you all jump on me--you do not have to let your kids watch Adam Lambert fot them to be smart and independent--but you do have to give them some leeway somewhere to think for themselves

That is the reaction I am expecting out of DS10. He can't shut up about how much he dislikes Brittany's dancing when one of her videos comes on so I imagine he will think this is abotu as bad. He loves Lady Gaga's work though (which is good because they are using the slow version of Poker Face for his ballet recital)

That read was about whether or not a Lady Gaga concert would be appropriate fora 12 year old girl to attend. Since I would take my kids if it were in the budget and she were comming here I am a bad parent. Same goes for Radionate I have been a bad DIS parent for years though so it is nothing new

A 14 year old is different. Isn't 14 high school? I was in high school at 14. I don't think any of the content was wildly inappropriate for a high school aged teenager.

The rating was TV 14 - I still had it on the DVR.

Yes, she is in high school..she is a freshman. She is a young teen. Just because she is in high school doesn't mean I feel anything on tv is appropriate. I know better than to let her watch Criminal Minds or the Saw movies..I know basically that their content is not age appropriate for both of my DDs. I'm not a prude, I just know that I was uncomfortable watching it on youtube, and therefore I would have been 10 times more uncomfortable had my DD watched it. I don't feel that his performance was appropriate for my child to witness.

I totally support your right to choose what is appropriate for your child. In fact, I truly applaud you for being a caring parent who takes the time and energy to pay attention and make a decision I do not recall if you were a poster upthread complaining about it being on TV or not so please do not be offended if this was not you--I do think it is your job as a parent to make those decisions and then keep your child from watching whatever it is you disagree with. It is not the newtwork's job to second guess what you will be okay with (or what I will be okay with--which is clearly different so whose standards would they use anyway) and change their programming to suit.

i just watched it because i keep hearing how bad it was and yeah....it was pretty bad.

none of it "bothered" me the way it might have bothered others but i was kind of bored, actually. i've seen more "shocking" things, it seems like he's just trying too hard.

plus he sounded awful. i never liked his voice on Idol but this was even worse, idk what happened.

If he didn't, he should have. That roll looked ridiculous.

I thought he went too far in a couple of parts, but it was pretty boring, I thought. He sounded bad, too.

But wouldn't you think that the people putting on the AMA's know what is going to be performed? If they thought that it was too racy or inappropriate they should not have let him perform. But sets have to be built, they have to be there to rehearse and run thrus are done. I don't know what station it was on (I watched it on youtube) but maybe they wanted the shock value.

Adam's ok in my eyes. Seeing his performance does not make me any less of a fan of his music.

FWIW, last I heard ABC said they only had about 1,500 complaints, which they consider a moderate response; so either most folks didn't find the performance as edgy as many here on the Dis did, or they didn't bother calling to complain if they did.

I agree with you, plenty of people were aware of what the performance was going to be, and apparently were fine with it. But bottom line: Adam Lambert is the brand and had the final say.

I caught an after interview with him, and I think he's more than pleased with himself. Of course my indulgent comment still stands here, except I would probably add cocky too; especially after he admitted being pitchy, but blamed it on the sound.

But like I said, I don't think it's going to hurt his career at all.

Really, have you watched the shows on CBS, ABC and NBC after 9 PM, and even some of the ones before More and more are pushing the envelope so its no surprise that those same performers who go very far on MTV will push it as far as they can on a Network program.
I think most 14 year olds have seen and heard much worse than this performance.

I agree that shows on network are showing worse and worse things earlier and earlier. I still monitor what my girls watch. And you are right, my DD has probably seen and heard worse. But it's not been under my watch. I do what I can to screen what my kids watch. I'm not strict, but there are some things I feel my kids aren't old enough to watch. I think that the fact that ABC cut away to the audience for several seconds is very telling. I think they thought some of his act was too lewd for their standards. My kids don't even care about Adam...we didn't watch AI this year. So, I really don't have a dog in this hunt, I just didn't enjoy the performance. For the record, my DD's watched the VMA's when Brit and Madonna kissed and I turned it immediately. Of course, that was a few years ago, but I was just as uncomfortable because at that time, we had never discussed homosexuality or bisexuality or anything like that. We have since had that discussion, and believe it or not, I am very liberal. I told them about my feelings about homosexuality ( that they are no different from anyone else and I feel they should have equal rights the same as married couples and I told them I have friends who are gay and people should not be judged due to who they love). So the homosexual overtones last night didn't bother me...it was the Sexual overtones I didn't like. I think his act, if judged separately from the rest of the show, would warrant a Mature rating.

I find it very, very sad that people are more accepting of two women kissing on stage than two men. What's with the double-standard??? I mean seriously, in THIS day and age??? Heck, I'd think it'd be as acceptable as a man and a woman kissing, given some of the other stuff that goes on nowadays. Sheesh.

Nor should you. But I think you are rare because I think people would let their HS kids watch Criminal Minds and the Saw movies and yet be appalled by Lambert's performance. I actually don't even allow the evening news because it is one violent crime after another.

I find the rape or murder of the week on shows like CSI far more disturbing that anything Adam Lambert did. I censor violence a lot. Sex, not so much.

I actually did just turn on for my 8 year old. His response. "Who choreographed this? It stinks! With a capital S on both sides!" "Why is he screaming?" "Grandma likes this guy? He can't sing."

And like NHdisneylover said, you obviously were aware and do not assume that things, even those on network TV during prime time, will be appropriate for your child. A lot of people don't do that.

As a side note. Adam Lambert's performance was AFTER the final award. People had mentioned that their kids were staying up to see if Taylor Swift won. They would have already known Swift won when Lambert performed.

Oh, no..I do not think that they should change their programming to suit my needs. I did say that I would hold a network to higher standards than a cable channel. I don't think I complained about it being on tv. There are lots of shows I don't feel my kids are ready to watch, but I would never protest the fact they are aired. I like lots of shows my kids aren't old enough for. I know some people will probably think I'm a helicopter parent, and I probably am. I guess I'm just trying to hold on to their innocence as long as I can. Is it a lost cause? Yes. Do I give up? No.

ok because i was just curious about tv shows. yeah Gossip Girl, 90210, and Melrose Place...even i don't watch those shows. i'm more into the sci-fi stuff anyway i like Supernatural and Vampire Diaries.

i actually love Degrassi but i don't think they get into the "raunchy" stuff. they don't really show anything, it's more of the kids making out and then the next day it's like "uh-oh i'm pregnant" or something like that, you know?

Degrassi is good for kids, i think. because it really DOES tackle real-life problems and shows teenagers the consequences of things.

did you ever watch the original 80's Degrassi? that was pretty good, too.
