Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

What about a 12 year old? I don't certain age groups are normally up at that time, but when it's a special show I think allowances are made.

And, sorry, but New Moon doesn't have simulated oral sex.

12 isn't a TEENager. You said young teen. And maybe. Depends on the teen.

7th grade? Maybe. 6th? Doubtful.

But I wouldn't have a 12 year old up at 11 pm to watch the AMAs on a school night anyway ... no matter who was nominated. That is what TiVo is for.

If it were no school, I might make an allowance but then I wouldn't be concerned about the content.

You can't have it both ways.

Do you know how many teen girls are actually performing oral sex? A lot. The CDC lists the statistic at nearly 50% by 15. More than 70% by 19. The realities are far more concerning to me than Adam Lambert doing some stupid simulated dance move for 5 seconds.

Here is a cut-n-paste from this article above:
“I’m not going to be surprised that they edit it,” he continued. “People are scared and it’s really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it’s all for a laugh, it’s really not that big of a deal.”

I personally do not feel that I should "enjoy things" such as watching Adam simulate "you know what." I don't think my tween daughters should "open their minds" to this either. I am quite sure many young fans were watching this show last night.

I totally agree w/ you.

I wonder why people can be "scared" according to Adam and not just GROSSED OUT, Disappointed , bored, pick one. I'm not into voyerism (sp?) why would I watch a stranger lol? There is a reason why I don't subscribe to cinemax.

HEY ADAM! Guess what, I'm not scared of you I just think your talent could have been better served than acting out a porno clip with clothing on. I was so busy watching your moves that I wasn't concentrating on your singing. :rotfl:

Maybe they learned it by watching music award shows on regular tv. As has been said, this isn't anything "shocking" or new. I certainly don't approve of those statistics and wouldn't want my dd to be one of them. Keep it on cable where it belongs.

If you add it all together it was much more than 5 seconds.

Will he do that tonight on Lettermen. Hey maybe Dave can be one of his dancers if this is soooo acceptable. :rolleyes1

And yes, kids watch these things. I know my granddaughters (9 & 11) are usually asleep by this time, but for things like this exceptions are made. I sure hope they were sleeping last night.

That is the parents' decision to make. However, I think it is the job of the parents to realize that a music awards show, aired on late night television, may well have some more adult content and decide accordingly if they want their children to stay up for it (perhaps a good idea would be for the parent to record the show and preview it before showing to a youngster). It is not the networks' job to guess which shows parents will allow their children to stay up for and censor everything just in case.

You are right, I didn't think of it that way. I still think that "kiss" was somewhat agressive or "violent" and I know I wouldn't want someone kissing me that way. It looked painful. lol

It DID look somewhat aggressive--however that is totally in keeping with the theming for the rest of the performance. ALL of it looked aggressive and/or violent. That is clearly what Adam was going for. I wouldn't want anyone doing most of what was done on that stage to me in real life--but a decent performer can make a lot of things look more intense than they really are.

Won't somebody please think of the children?!?

While I understand the shock value of what Adam did, it didn't bother me at all. Sadly not much shocks me anymore. I was way more disturbed by Lady Gaga at the VMA awards and the Paparazzi performance she did. yikes!

I will be buying Adam's cd later today and will continue to be a fan of his music.

I guess once it got to the west coast they edited it. Just as they did when J Lo. fell on her bum. The west coast didn't get to see that.

That does not make it any more acceptable on a non-cable tv show. This was like a Vegas act, where it would be perfectly fine, children would not be subjected to it.

Yeah - they learned it from music award shows. I'm positive that is where it is all coming from.

Really?

The entire performance was long but the actual simulated sex was not more than a few seconds.

I stand by my earlier statement. Adam Lambert accomplished exactly what he set out to do....what page are we on? 7, 8?

Listen, people offended and shocked are not the people who were going to buy an Adam Lambert CD anyway. He didn't lose any fans.

I don't even like the guy's singing and certainly wasn't going to buy his album but that has NOTHING to do with his AMA performance.

I don't think of awards shows as "adult" shows at all. They are on at 11 because they take HOURS to get through. Don't forget that in a huge part of the country it ends at 10 and that isn't that late at all. Even if a kid doesn't stay up that late, it could have been recorded for later. My kids didn't watch it because they couldn't care less about a show like that, but I can see how some would be upset. I'd expect awards shows to be fairly safe.

I am not at all surprised by his "performance". The song was cringe-worthy, he looked ridiculous, his "dancing" was awkward, and the screeching at the end is textbook Adam. His attitude about the whole thing after the fact tells me that those of us who never bought his "aww shucks" routine on AI were closer to the mark of this guy's true personality. He's an arrogant jerk. I doubt this will end his career. But I'd be thrilled if it did!

While I wasn't buying his CD anytime soon, I liked the song (as I said in a pp) BUT after seeing that, I'm not so sure and I consider myself to be pretty liberal w/ my dd as far as tv goes. She even watches Sunny in PA and Reno 911 but those are cable and I know what to expect and so does she. She doesn't get most of it lol .

I dvr'd this because she loves alot of the groups that were on and has them on her IPOD. I actually have an ITUNE list here we need to download and Adam isn't on it. Too bad, I really did like the song. I did NOT like him on AI.

Oh yeah roll your eyes all you want but just because those statistics are so high doesn't mean its right OR healthy. If not from TV etc, where? their parents bedroom?

You keep saying this, but here in the midwest, it was over at 10pm.

I don't watch AI, and I didn't listen to the youtube, just watched it.

I definitely saw more naughtiness at Madonna's concert last year than was in this performance.

And while I don't care for seeing things like that...I didn't like MJ's grabbing nor Madonna's copying of it, and even Elvis's pelvis move (which was censored, of course, back in "his" day) looked goofy in my opinion...I don't think this guy did anything any worse.

According to this MSNBC article, it was edited for the west coast.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34109255/ns/entertainment-access_hollywood/

According to that article the keyboard player is straight. I feel bad for him. I guess Adam decided to "shock" everyone. I do think its sad.

The guy moved into the kiss. I watched it several times. It was obviously planned.

It DID look somewhat aggressive--however that is totally in keeping with the theming for the rest of the performance. ALL of it looked aggressive and/or violent. Exactly.

Only thing I'm worried about is how those dancers took care of their stage burns after their performance. Ouch!

Why are you letting children watch an awards show at 11 pm on a (potential) school night????? Even 10 pm for the central time zoners? I don't know anyone who lets their kids stay up as long as the parents do even if there isn't school.

Since when are these types of award shows for children? This wasn't the Kids Choice Awards.

Why isn't any complaining about Eminem who was on before Lambert. Did anyone hear the Crack a Bottle lyrics, even the 1/2 the wasn't bleeped out.

:confused3

Maybe you should start :confused3 I don't allow my dd to watch these types of shows because I expect performances that I do not feel are appropriate for her age. Any parent that thinks an award show with current popstars performing is safe probably hasn't seen one in the last decade at least.

Also for those of you who are not a fan, why do you hope this ends his career, why do you care whether he is successful or not?

Because this was a thread about Adam? I turned the channel when Eminem was "singing" - I can't stand him or any kind of rap "music".

You keep saying this, but here in the midwest, it was over at 10pm.

Still. 10 pm is late for young kids to be up on a school night. When I lived in the central time zone, my son got up at 6 for school.

All the tweens here I know go to bed by 9:30 on school nights and don't have to get up until 7. So if they had to get up earlier I'm sure they would go to sleep earlier.

I'm not worried about HS kids or even 8th graders. In fact, I'm not worried about my kids at all because if I was concerned about a programs content they wouldn't be up watching it.

If people DVR'd I don't know what is the big deal. Fast Forward.

People have been complaining about this stuff with Rock n Roll since Elvis.

But who I'm I to talk. I didn't think Janet Jackson at the Superbowl was any big thing either and my son did see that.

I just watched it on youtube and thought it was icky. I'm glad I don't watch the music award shows anymore.

I had to go watch the video on YouTube.

I've never seen AI, and I'm not a fan of Adam Lambert so I consider my opinion somewhat unbiased.

I really didn't think it was a big deal. If you thought that dancing was sexual, don't let your kids watch America's Best Dance Crew. Last season had far worse simulation-type stuff than that Lambert's AMA performance (specifically the Afroborike crew last season). And those aired each week on Mtv at 9 EST on Sundays!

Because this was a thread about Adam? I turned the channel when Eminem was "singing" - I can't stand him or any kind of rap "music".

It was hypothetical in general. No one (not just the dis) is talking about Eminem today. No radio talk show hosts are discussing it. No threads about it. I wasn't being specific to this thread. Eminem saying some pretty disgusting things about women and sex gets no attention.

The only reason people are talking about Lambert is because he is a gay man who kissed and simulated sex with another man. Had he kissed a woman like that...non issue. Had he grabbed a female dancers head like that, people may have called it a little degrading but it wouldn't get nearly 1/4 of the attention this has.

This is just a bunch of people having a discussion on a discussion board. I'm sure no one expects to change anyone's mind.

But remember when it was ok to advertise cigarettes and hard liquor on TV? Then it wasn't such a good idea anymore? Smoking on planes and in restaurants was OK, now it's not thought to be a good idea anymore?

I just think that saying Madonna did worse in the past does not make it ok.
