I am trying to help out a friend whose DS's bottom is absolutely raw from diaper rash (he is cutting teeth). She is using Desitin and it isn't working well. I remember when DS was a baby (8 years ago) that there was another really great diaper rash cream out there that worked wonders, however, I can't remember the name. Does any one out there have any good recommendations?

Balmex works very well. As a matter of fact I am a RN and we use it on adults with mild skin breakdown and within days it is gone.

Debbi, when the diaper rash is so raw, it's time to call the doctor and call in a prescription cream, nothing will do better than that, been there , done that.
I remember two more, AD and Balmex.

Balmex is the one....Thank you!!

Olga, she knows, but we are in an isolated situation here in Italy and can't always get to the doctor right away. I am sure if it is as bad tomorrow she will be calling him up. Thanks for the recommendations!!!

Boudreaux's Butt Paste (yes that is the name!) is awesome too, but you may not be able to get that there. I don't think they are shipping internationally yet.

She probably knows this but just in case.... Another thing that will help is to let the area be exposed to the air as much as possible so it can dry out. Let the baby go diaperless as much as possible. Lay him on a thick towel or blanket on his tummy. Poor little guy, hope he feels better!

I always used A&D Ointment for DS. Never had a problem.

This happened to my dd when she was that age and I ended up haveing to get a prescription from her Dr.. Also put some of that Aveeno oatmeal stuff in the bath water.

I have best luck with the brands that have petroleum as a main ingredient as well as the Zinc Oxide. Balmex hasn't worked very well around here.

I've had good luck with Flanders Buttocks Ointment and Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment.

Here's another vote for A & D Ointment. I used it for both my sons and never had a diaper rash problem.

Lotriman or Wal-Mart's Equate brand is awesome for raw/diaper rash. When my son was younger, I would put this on him and after a couple of hours or throughout the night, the rash would be gone.

Great product. My son is now 8 and if he doesn't wipe well enough, I put some on for him and the irritation is gone in an hour. I carry a tube with me on every trip.

I hope this helps.

Lasinoh worked also.

Two of the worst rashes ever were from orange juice in one child and from apple juice in another child.

For those bad diaper rach days - we used something called Triple Paste. It was never stocked at our local pharmacy - but they would special order it for us.

There is a diaper rash cream called Triple Paste. It is amazing works so quickly. I found it much better than any other ointment. You can get it in any pharmacy, it is usually behind teh pharmacist counter and it is a little expensive ($8 for small container).

sorry must have been posting at same time

Zinc oxide was a life saver for me but if the diaper rash is as bad as you say, it may very well be a yeast infection. If I couldn't go to the doctor, a do-it-yourself remedy is to mix athletes foot medication half and half with zinc oxide. The athletes foot medicine will kill the yeast infection and the zinc oxide will protect the healing skin.

recommended to keep vaseline or A&D ointment on hand and plaster it.....it keeps all the moisture off the babies butt.....and neither one of the those babys ever had a rash......cheap and simple to

Like mentioned above.....a yeast infection is a totally new ballgame and needs a perscription ointment to treat.....but it is fast and usually gone within the 24 hour mark.......all little boys and girls get one some time ........

I've always had better luck with cornstarch and aloe. The creams tended to sting my son. It may just depend on the baby.
