Dialling code to UK

Could someone please give me the dialling code to the UK from USA. I have looked on line and as far as I can tell it is 01144 but my travel insurance company is telling me it is 0044

0044 then you miss the first 0 off whatever number you are phone eg
0044 151 xxx xxxx

Would be phoning a number local to me (instead of 0151 at the start)

To phone the UK from the USA you need to ring the US exit code 011 the UK country code 44 then the STD code and drop the 0 then the home phone number ie (my number)011441726******.

I've travelled over a the US on business and you do need the exit code in some places.
I always use my mobile nowadays and store the numbers as international numbers (+44 1234 567890) and never had a problem anywhere in the world......
