I am wondering if I would be able to use the phone in our 1BR at OKW to make dial-up calls (local) to an ISP. Has anyone done this or are these phones not "dial-up-friendly"?
We've used dial-up at OKW the last 4 or 5 times we were there. I found the connection as good as any dial-up connection I've used anywhere we travel. I've never had problems with the phone service except for our last trip when all phones in the villa were dead. One call and 30 minutes later maintenance had fixed the problem (high speed modem was wired wrong). Price per local call placed is .35 cents for DVC members.
There won't be any problem with it. The phones have a "data" jack on the side for you to plug your modem into.
BTW, OKW also offers broadband internet in all of its units if you'd rather not have to use a dial-up connection. The price for broadband is $9.95/24 hours.
It depends. Some Orlando numbers are local while others are LD. Some Kissimmee numbers are local, while others are LD. Also some of the other localities are considered local numbers.
You can always check with an operator to see which exchanges are local or not. You can also look in the front of the Phone Book that's in the room. It has some charts in it. First find what exchange you're calling from. That would be the exchange number for your room's phone. Then see what exchanges that you can call from that phone that are consider local numbers.
Then use one of your dial-up numbers which has the correct exchange number.
