DHS = Ghost Town.

My kid could ride ToT for nine hours.... so... yeah... it just depends. I could spend nine hours with the Star Wars stuff....

A few locals have recently gone and said DHS is like a ghost town - walls up everywhere and very little to do. Our last time there we left before all of this started, so not sure what they're talking about other than talk about building Toy Story & Star Wars land. Any idea the time frame they're talking about for completion and what these new 'lands' will entail?

I would guess that Toy Story Land will open in 2018, and Star Wars Land in 2019 or 2020.
As for the closed attractions, we didn't go near them (oh, except for Jack Sparrow, which we liked) on our last trip, and we still spent lots of time in DHS.

I took a stroll through the "launch bay"....i kept asking exactly what the attraction was, kept looking for what the buzz was about....best i could tell, a bunch of models and a gift shop, and get in line to take a picture with a wookie???

Felt the same way on this one. We did both M&G's and strolled through and was very unimpressed. Definitely not a destination by our standards.

That's how we feel.

We always spend the whole day there. I'm not worried about not having enough to do.

In fact, with a couple of things closed, we might have time to wander around some of the shops.

Hate to hear this. We are going in January and have never been to DHS. We were going to add it this trip since we hope to see the Star Wars fireworks, and DD wants to add Rockin Roller Coaster to her "done that" list. If we are really just interested in RRC, ToT, some of the shows, and the fireworks, could this be done in a half day? If so, we wouldn't mind enjoying our resort for the first half of the day.

I think you could definitely get this done in a half day and go to Disney Springs or your resort for the second half of the day!

We went and had a blast! We started with 10 am ToT, then went to Beauty and the Beast, broke for lunch while DH and DS went to Dine with an Imagineer, we took the girls to Disney Jr Live, met Sofia and Jake, then went in the little Mermaid then had our fps for TSMM and got done in time to catch Indiana Jones. After that we walked back to watch the Star Wars play and ride Star Wars before our Fantasmic dinner at H&V. Got out and went on the Great Movie Ride, went over to M&G Chewbacca. Went to Fantasmic and got out in time to catch fireworks show. It was EMH so we did RnR, ToT again, and Star Wars 3 or 4 more times.

If you liked HS a few years ago, you like it now too. If it wasn't your thing a few years ago, it isn't your thing now either. The recent closings are pretty immaterial to your decision IMO.

We are doing two full days at HS coming up here in early August, and we'll make full use of both of those days. YMMV

We were there in May for an EMH morning. Stopped for two different pictures on the way to RnR. Rode RnR standby, rode ToT once standby and once with FP+, walked through One Man's Dream and watched the Alice in Wonderland preview, watched Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, did TSMM (with a FP+), did Great Movie Ride (standby), and ate at Sci-Fi. We were done by 1:30, went back to the resort, then came back at 7:45 for a 9:00 Fantasmic. None of us was interested in the Star Wars stuff or the other shows (Little Mermaid, Frozen sing-along, Indiana Jones, Muppets), but if we had done those things, we could have easily made it a full day.

This my daughter - between TOT & now that she 'heighted' into RnRC. My husband doesn't do either so I'm the lucky one.

I believe she meant the Frozen Sing-along. Something I forgot to mention in my first post. We did the sing along last year and really liked it. Good humor, and the crowd was REALLY into it.

Dan

That's what I meant, thanks.

Is the animation academy closed now?! My DD will be so disappointed! Looking forward to meeting Kylo and the SWDP though!:chewy:

The Launch Bay is in the space of the former Animation Academy.

I forgot Muppets. We did that after Star Tours. We had a pretty full day and it was one of the busiest we had the whole week. It takes us 3 days to see the Magic Kingdom the way we want ( we take swim breaks) but it's definitely worth going. Love it, plus memories are made. Can't get that back.

when we went to DHS last year, DS was 2. We arrived at or near rope drop, and did in no particular order, Toy Story, Muppets, character meet and greets (several - Cars, Donald, Chip/Dale, Jake, Sofia, maybe another?), DS and I went to Disney Jr while DH went to Star Tours, had a snack, did some shopping and we were done, I think around noon. DH wanted to go back on Toy Story but there was no way.

This year, I said we should skip going to DHS, DH wants to go back for Toy Story, so we will do another morning, probably Toy Story, character meets, Muppets, Disney Jr show. I hope to cap it off with an early lunch at Sci Fi and then we will be on our way. Maybe Frozen? DS likes some of the songs.

I like RNRC but not enough to go alone, neither DH nor I will go near TOT. Last year we were hesitant to bring DS to LMA (noise) though he loves cars, same with GMR (thought it would be too scary) - I still don't think GMR would be good for him.

As long as they still have Star Tours and Sci-Fi, I could care less about what happens to that park.
