I struggle with this each trip. Does anyone have a suggestion for where to eat at DHS? I wish there was a great option, but I just don't think it exists.

I know what you mean! DHS is not exactly known for their great counter service options! ;) We just returned from our Thanksgiving week trip and ate there twice during our 8 day visit.

On our first day at DHS we had planned to go to Backlot Express, but our 8 year old son (who was upgraded to the adult dining plan and eats way more than what's in a typical kids meal) didn't like anything on the menu other than the chicken nugget kid meal, so we looked for another nearby option.

That option turned out to be ABC Commissary. We had been there on our last trip and were less than wowed, but we were starving and annoyed that our son couldn't find anything at the Backlot Express, so we just settled for it. They seem to have changed their menu a bit, because I looked at the menu from 10/10 listed on the wdwinfo.com web site and the the entree that 3/4 of us chose was not on the menu. It was a cheeseburger that came with 5 fried shrimp on a skewer on top of the burger and fries. Our son got the chicken cordon bleu sandwich without the cordon bleu! (i.e., plain) :) We were pretty happy with our choices--it was much better than our last visit!

The other counter service meal at DHS was at Fairfax Fare, which was similar to the offerings at Flame Tree Barbeque at Animal Kingdom--smoked BBQ chicken and ribs. The portions were large and the food was surprisingly tasty! We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back there on our next visit to DHS.

Last time we were at DHS we ate at the Commissary one day and at Toluca Turkey Legs the other day. The Commissary wasn't great, the Turkey legs aren't really the best value on the DP so this time we're going to Starring Rolls for our lunch, sandwiches, chips and cake. I'm actually quite excited about this place, we'll be eating there Christmas day!

I've been thinking that although we'll be visiting HS a few times, we will most likely have only one CS meal there, we will probably try something at EPCOT then walk across or eat at the hotel on the other days...

I ate at the dockside - the boat near Prime Time and had a wonderful sausage sandwich with green peppers and onions in a french baguette. Nice change from the wheat buns they use everywhere that fall apart.

We went to Starring Rolls just for the cupcakes, but the sandwiches there looked delicious!

We had lunch at the Studio Catering Company and were wery satisfied. The tuscan deli sandwitch was very good and quite filling.

We also go to Min & Bill's Dockside Diner. That is basically the only CS we'll use at DHS. Both my wife and I enjoy the Chicken Caeser sandwich.

DHS- for lunch, we like Starring Rolls (limited selection of pre-made gourmet deli sandwiches but we really liked both meat choices) and again, fabulous dessert choices . Note that all sandwiches are pre-made so no options on leaving this or that off...and once they run out, they're done serving lunch for the day so could be all gone at 1:30. At any rate, I think Starring Rolls generally closes by about 4:00 p.m. every day.

We also happen to like the pizza meal at Pizza Planet...not "gourmet" pizza, but filling meal & we like the salad as a side...if you're lucky enough to get there right when they have fresh, warm cookies for dessert....yum!

And really, the cheeseburgers at Rosie's are standard Disney burgers...good enough. Again, not gourmet burgers, but certainly edible.

Sunset Market is an outdoor area near ToT and RnR...

It has MANY different counters and choices which suited our family just fine...

Catalina Eddie's has pizza, salad and an italian sub which I got and was VERY DELICIOUS !

There are also hamburger / hot dog / chicken nugget choices ...Rosies All American... and other counters as well..

"Fairfax" has now expanded as PP noted... and offers some really great BBQ....

Hope for good weather and head to Sunset Market.... plenty of selection...

Hugs,
Mary

We really like the vegetable sandwich at Backlot Express. :)

In the past, I'd have to agree with The Studios being horrible with their counter service meals. However, I've seen some improvements and next time, my husband and I are making it a point to eat the Fairfax Fare (we've seen the food offerings here, just never worked out for us to eat there as the timing was always off). They have chicken and ribs that looked very good plus a pulled pork sandwich that was pretty big.

My boys and I (18, 8, 5) ALWAYS eat at Pizza Planet and they say it is a MUST when we got in 9 days. They talk about it all the time. They just think it is SO AWESOME to eat where Woody and Buzz were. :cool1:

Food isn't "that bad".

We had an good meal at both Starring Rolls and Fairfax Fare. Not as good as the other parks but certainly reasonable.

We're goig to see the Osbourne lights Saturday and really can't come up with any really good places to eat. Backlot Express used to have decent hot dogs and sandwiches, but they've slipped lately. We'll probably eat at Fulton's before we go to the studios. Even a Rain Forest burger is better than what Disney is offering these days.

We only go to DHS one day and we've been eating at Scifi because we love the atmosphere. I hope that the food at DHS is really improving because it's been pretty bad for a while.

We were just there over Thanksgiving and ate at Backlot Express. We were very happy with our decision, and it was very fresh.
