...with good reason

Can someone explain to me - again - where they see any indication that the current Disney management has any desire to build and sell more Hotel rooms?

Because Star Wars fans are bigger suckers than Disney fans. Build a value style Star Wars hotel - charge low level deluxe prices. ($250-300 a night) Be booked 95% of the time. I would do it.

Make half be "rebels/resistance" and costume the staff as rebels, make the other half "imperial/first order" and staff with imperial uniforms. (Not Stormtroopers because that would be silly.) Have robot R2 units do "room service". Are you kidding. Charge $400 a night.

Do we even know where Star Wars is going? The only thing I know for sure is the area behind Toy Story Mania towards Animation Courtyard is going to be Toys Story Land
Star wars is said to go in the echo lake area and then expand into the parking lot.

Esp if it walks into Star Wars land.

Regular rooms no, DVC is another story.

No argument there...

But I see lots of "I think it's time they build a new resort" and "they're missing out on all that money" around here...

But nobody ever explains how to justify that stance in light that the last hotel that broke ground was pop century in 2001...

Disney is dumb enough to not realize they're "missing out", huh?

That seems "uncharacteristic"

Low margin business with an unpredictable revenue cycle (Hotels) vs. initial lump sum to cover building costs plus consistent annual payments (DVC). It's not a hard choice really is it?

DVC offers all the benefits of regular hotels for Disney plus the bonus of encouraging people to come back again and again spending yet more money in the parks (which is the whole function of the resorts).

On another thread, they said that a place near Starring Rolls sells the carrot cake cookie. I think it's called Sweet Spells. So, hopefully people won't have to go cookieless.

Wasn't Art of Animation just built in 2012?

It seems it was built mostly to accommodate larger families. Keep them from getting off resort condos. I can see where it has a need but as for new regular resorts....... it seems they are rarely full as it is.

Well....kinda

Half of Pop got scrapped cause of 9/11 and the travel crisis that followed so the shells of the other phase of Pop just kinda sat there for ten years.

So in away you're right, and in another way you're not

Part of it was already built for the legendary years but then 9/11 happened. They finished it at AoA instead of letting it rot.

I was actually at the ground breaking for "art of animation"...it was in 2001...if I recall.

Wasn't only the Little Mermaid section and the main lobby built when it was the legendary years?

The new hotel sentiment follows this general pattern:

Somebody says "I think we're gonna see an ______ themed hotel soon"

It's usually Star Wars, marvel, etc.

It's usually the same MO...that people are bored and want a no commitment hotel that's fresh to go to once every 3 years or so...DD/DS WOULD LOVE IT!!!

the problem there is that it makes no sense on about 90% of the argument fronts...and is completely ignoring what is an easily identified pattern since 9/30/15.

Heck...AoA is an indictment itself...

Wdw had a gigantic boom from 2003-2008 like the rest of the phoney, trumped up economy...

And they STILL didn't get around to finishing it till 2012. And what was built? Probably the most expensive rooms per benefit dollar for dollar in wdw history.

Nope...the shells of probably 85% of the buildings were built concurrently with what become the only section of PoP!

There were rain shelters for anoles for about 8 years

That idea got shot down on page 5. :badpc:

Although I am not the OP, I am the one who quoted that post and I know it was shot down already, I just thought it was a neat idea. I did not mean to imply in any way that Disney wants to build more hotels and if I'd known it was such a hot-button issue, I would have ignored the post.

But since I've already opened that can of worms, I think @skier_pete has a nice idea and my kids would love to stay in that hotel!
