DHS bus drop off 20 min walk!?

Clearly, no one here on the Dis has ever struggled to walk extra time with a disability. Although my "disability" is not obvious to others just by looking, it IS there. And in the parks I have options to stop and rest.

I'm surprised at the venom on this thread. I'm certainly NOT lazy, but I definitely do not want to walk extra time prior to park opening.

Thank you all for reading my point of view!

That's not the point. The point is the extreme to which people are going over the extra distance. To give up going to an entire park over the very short extra distance? Sorry. It's an extreme reaction. It's fine to complain and discuss that better options could be found. And it sounds like some changes have been made already.
Yes, in case you are curious, I have had mobility problems during one of our trips. Cause me to give up the Dark Side 10K last year. So I do know, I have been there. In all the walking, the little bit more here is one piece of straw in an entire bale. Such a small amount it's not noticeable.

Looks like the best bet for those who don't want to take the hike is to just spend the $10/$20 on an Uber/Cab. Either to HS directly or to one of the Epcot area hotels where you can take the boat over to the front.

Are wheelchairs available for guests who rent in the park? I can tell you for me the extra walk in the sun not a problem. For my 76 year old husband with mobility issues it is quite a big deal.

Count your blessings if it is not an issue for you or anyone you care about.

@yulilin3 ~ Is there a crosswalk in the area leading to the loop and is there even much traffic in that area other than buses?

Would this be a viable option when heading to a bus as long as tram lines aren’t too lengthy?

So you think this wins over walking back? Or about an even trade?

Thank you for the details @yulilin3
I would walk it to the park from the bus loop.
Going back would be a matter of personal choice
Me, personally would take the tram only IF: the tram is there and I can sit and wait/I'm not in a hurry/I'm super tired of walking

The tram drops you off at Television/Stage, you cross the tram street and you're in the preferred parking lot/ wheelchair accessible parking lot. There are no other cars going other than the people parking at that moment that have preferred parking so no buses are actually going through there (like they did before)
Again, if you don't want the extra steps taking the tram is an easy solution but time wise it's about the same

According to this, it seems the bus pickup/drop off for DHS is pretty crazy "20 mins for a fast walker from the closest bus stop?!?" Seems a little ridiculous. Has anyone who's been there since the changes experienced the new stops? Any thoughts/input?

We're heading down in a couple weeks and it does not sound fun for our group of 12 (ages 3- 66).

Does anyone know where the drop off location for uber/lyft would be (how much closer if any)? Trying to have a backup plan...20 mins drenched in sweat during the end if Aug./beginning of Sept., sounds bizarre.
Added to my list of Disney World myths...

It rains EVERYDAY in the summer.
It’s 100 degrees from July 1 - September 15.
There are no slow days anymore.
It takes 20 minutes to walk from DHS bus stop to entrance.

There were no wheelchairs in the bus loop walkway, they usually have some at the disable parking lot but none at the bus loop...this might change

Or maybe it's the straw that broke the camel's back :D

I'm really hoping this is done by my trip! It sucks. I don't even like walking back to my room after a full day at a park. I'm just so tired at that point!!!

Edit - looks like it'll still be like this.

Oh well. At least it'll be cooler by then and I have no mobility issues. They should really have a CM out with some wheelchairs for elderly/disabled folk though. If you need one in park, you need one to get to the park!

So, let me make sure I have this right.
Walk 8 miles (our avg) INSIDE the park, without shade, fine. Plenty of times these walks are 15, 20 min without stopping.
Walk extra 100, maybe 200 yards to the bus, and wait for the bus, without shade. Possibly spend $10 with Uber instead, deal breaker
Ok. Got it.
Hopefully, those of us willing to make the trek will find the FP for Slinky Dog easier to get.
Why are you sooo insistent on invalidating others thoughts/opinions/frustration with this? We ALL get it, it is not an issue for YOU. YOU have no problem with and STRONGLY feel others have no right to be either....we have gotten the message. Not everyone is you though and most ppl understand that ppl have different views on things and they have a right to discuss them....once again your message on your umpteenth post about how ridiculous it is to you for ppl to be frustrated about this we get.

Thank you so much for the pics...def. helps with the mental picture!

Maybe they can bring in some misting fans. Waiting out in the sun for your bus, which can take a while sometimes, really stinks. It is like the value resort bus stops. The walk there is more of a non-issue for me since we are walking all day/every day anyway. And before anyone says anything, yes I have had issues with mobility. Did 2 trips with plantar fasciitis before I went to the doctor to figure out why me feet hurt so darn bad. I was just aware of my limits and planned accordingly, knowing that I needed to make it back to my resort every day. Now we all know that the walk will be a bit further and in the sun so we can all bring a hat/umbrella/misting fan/water, etc.

And to be honest the wait for the bus today has been the most comfortable wait for a bus I'veIever had at wdw. Being inside, sitting in a/c was actually pleasant.

Forget your troubles and come visit Disneyland! Where you don't need to worry about buses, long walks, or excessive humidity. The park entrances are right across the plaza from each other (much shorter walk than DHS from the DHS bus stop!), and there doesn't need to be a whole forum devoted to transportation.

While this thread's topic doesn't cause me angst personally, and I absolutely love WDW enough that I have an AP, Florida can be physically brutal (and so can these threads!). If people only knew how comfortable it was here in Anaheim.

IDK, we stayed at Paradise Pier on our last trip and that was a loong walk to the parks. LOL

And that is your point of view, and you are allowed to have it. And the rest of us are allowed our points of view as well. Not you, put some posters are acting like people complaining about the extra walking are idiots who should just stay home. Good gravy.
