DHS bus drop off 20 min walk!?

Thanks for the maps, rteetz.

I think that I see the old accessible parking area on the map on the left map in your post where the blue lines for buses incircle it. Your map on the right cuts off that area which is okay because the thread is talking about the loop.

So the old accessible parking area is closed for good?

Do you know what they might use that area for now?

That empty space between the old accessible parking area and the closed area in the map on the left must be where I saw parked cars in one of your photos. Is that non-closed area on the left map for cast members to park, or for the Minnie Vans and Uber to pickup/dropoff guests?

Do you know the name of the section of parking at the top of the map on the left? I am pretty sure that it is not the cast member parking that is closest to the DHS park, but it is for guest parking.

I tried performing a DIS search and a Google search to find an aerial view map of the DHS parking with the different section names on the map, but I couldn't find anything.

And I assume that I was correct about all of the comments about your photos.

Thank you, rteetz, for taking the time to post your photos and comments.

This might help you a bit.

I would agree they need better shade shelters while waiting for the bus. Especially if it rains.

I don't agree they need wheelchairs and carts selling cold water along the way of what amounts to be a small detour. Guests can buy water on their way out - if it's that hot they should have it anyways.

My opinion.
They need wheelchairs. My husband rents one in the park at times. Those need to be returned when exiting. Other parks have wheelchairs you can use to get back and forth to the busses. We are mostly in epcot and don't need it to get to the boat. We usually uber to ak but when we use the bus we use the chairs available at the bus stop until we rent in the park,

I'll be the third moderator on this thread to request on topic and respectful posts. Off-topic posts, fighting, arguing/sarcasm, and personal attacks are all against DISBoard guidelines and can be subject to infraction points and removal of posts. Infractions have and will continue to be given if we can't keep things on track on this thread.... a thread which is otherwise helping to provide valuable, accurate real-time information to help us all be more informed visitors to DHS during this temporary (albeit seemingly lengthy) situation and understand how it may or may not impact our personal circumstances.

Thank you.

I am in the process of planning a December trip to the world. Would be my sister's first time to see the parks decked out for Christmas. We wanted to go cheap and save money on the resort, as we are going to be at WDW for 10 days in Oct/Nov. But with this we would either skip the Studios, or try to stay at a boardwalk area resort.

You could also do an early adr and take the boat from of one those resorts or rent a scooter. There are tons of companies that do that. Hubby is taking a scooter (which in everyday life he doesn't normally use, but he had surgery on his ankle and it pains him to work on his feet 8 hours a day and is on lots of nerve medications for it). Just prepare and it won't be as detrimental. It also will not be as hot then either.

You're missing out if you skip HS during Christmas.

This one is huge and changed the whole look from any other photos or diagrams posted to show what they are doing. This makes lots of sense since handicapped parking at this park was grossly too small and overflow a long walk and at times not safe. This should allow you to walk direct up to the plaza by the gondola station rather than cross the road and have walk around the old bus loop, since they closed our access to the security check by the bathrooms.

Thanks

I will be staying at Pop in December, which is the farthest bus stop out. I really don't think it will seem as bad once the temperatures moderate, and I have no plans to change to a different resort (although I do love the Epcot resorts area, I'm in money saving mode this year as well). If you haven't had any issues getting to the value bus stops at Epcot and MK as far as distance goes, I think you will be OK since you won't be overheated. If you do usually have some issues at those two parks, then perhaps a change of hotel would work better for you. I do find the longer walks much more tolerable on my January and December trips than on my May and Aug/Sept trips, just because of the lower temps and humidity.

I am concerned about my trip later this month, because it will still be extremely hot, but I am going to make sure I buy a bottle of water last thing when I leave the park and plan on sitting in the cooler bus for a while when I get to the bus stop before I catch the Pop bus back to the resort. I'll just have to work that extra waiting time into my schedule. I have three days planned at DHS on this trip, one solo and two with family. I am debating driving on the days when the family is with me, but would not drive on a solo day.

I would hate to see you skip the holiday festivities at DHS because of this bus stop change. We really enjoyed the new lighting and projection show last year, and I plan to go again this year.

Well then do they already have them? I just meant if they didn't have them already, I don't see them adding them just for the small detour.

Thanks! An early ADR sounds like a great plan!

Yes, normally there are maybe a half dozen or so spread out around the bus area (at Epcot they have an area near the center building where they stack up like grocery carts). So it is normal to have them around. But no one has reported seeing them at the new stop yet.

Thanks. That is a problem

Keep in mind that temperatures in December are most likely going to be vastly different than they are today. A half mile isn’t a long distance if it’s not sweltering with a thousand percent humidity.

Thank you so much for the links to the photos, GADisneyDad14. Your photos really gives an excellent idea of where the temporary bus routes are located and the accesseible parking is located and where the sidewalk to BWV is located.

Excellent.

Maybe they can bring in some misting fans. Waiting out in the sun for your bus, which can take a while sometimes, really stinks. It is like the value resort bus stops. The walk there is more of a non-issue for me since we are walking all day/every day anyway. And before anyone says anything, yes I have had issues with mobility. Did 2 trips with plantar fasciitis before I went to the doctor to figure out why me feet hurt so darn bad. I was just aware of my limits and planned accordingly, knowing that I needed to make it back to my resort every day. Now we all know that the walk will be a bit further and in the sun so we can all bring a hat/umbrella/misting fan/water, etc.

As long as they have a dry section people can walk through, great. Not everyone wants to be wet. Mist actually makes me hotter - not cooler. (Ditto carrying an umbrella.)

For another data point.. Just timed walk from front gate to bus stop 19 going to MK. 7 minutes at normal pace. The sun is still brutal though.

7 minute wait for bus.. there are 3 umbrellas at this stop that have shade for maybe 12 people total.

I did this walk 4 times in the past two days from the all stars movies resort stop which is far out there. It’s 10 minutes at a slow pace, between 5-10 minutes at a normal, and if you’re hitting twenty minutes you are either walking in circles or backwards.

I’m not at all worried about the walk, more so the standing in the sun once I get to the bus stop. I’m seriously considering driving to HS this trip. Without going through 11 pages, can someone tell me where the parking trans drop off?
