We have a small veggie garden in the backyard. Actually, if you can imagine...we used to have a large trampoline in the middle of the backyard and of course, the grass under it died. Well, our homeowner's insurance says either fence it in or get rid of it! Since we have older teens we put it away for the grandkids :D . So what to do with that big brown spot? We tilled it mixed in some compost and nutrients and voila! a garden. I planted 6 beef steak tomato plants, 4 grape tomato plants, 8 pepper varieties, 8 zucchini, and several herbs. Now DH says NO MORE plants in that garden you have too much....he he he.... I just smuggled in 4 more cucumber plants!

What do have planted in your veggie garden?

Just wait until he bites into one of those luscious beefsteak tomatoes.......he'll be begging you to plant more next year!!!:D

Tiggerkeeper, do you have a big family, lots of neighbours? I'm just curious........8 zucchini plants......reminds me of a garden quote (please forgive me, everything reminds me of a garden quote...LOL).

Zucchinis terrific!
Like bunnies, prolific!
:) :D :) :D :)

Too funny, actually we are only four soon to be three (DS is leaving for Marine boot camp this summer)! I found a recipe for pineapple zucchini bread that is wonderful so I plan to freeze as much zucchini (and some bread) as I can so I can have bread all year!

I planted 8 in hopes of having 4 but somehow they all survived!!

You will be sneaking zucchini into unsuspecting visitors cars come August. ANd leaving it on neighbors steps,

....not that I've ever done any of these things......;-)

MMMM! Sounds yummy. I love grape tomatoes!!!!!! We don't have a garden, but maybe next year I'll try some container gardening. The thought of my own fresh grape tomatoes is making my mouth water!

Happy harvesting!

My veggie garden has a permanent bed of strawberries (both June bearing and ever bearing varieties). The rest of it changes from year to year with a few "regulars". One of the "must" have plants every year is my tomatoes. I start them from seed myself and put them out early in wall of waters to get a longer season of tomatoe eating! This year's varieties are Brandywine and some sweet grape (cherry) tomatoes. I have a total of 9 tomatoe plants. I love the Brandywine tomatoe and I also love Super Fantastics (not Fantastics - but the SUPER Fantastics which can be very hard to find). The rest of my garden is planted in corn (silver queen sweet), a variety of lettuce and mesclun salad mix, carrots, bush beans (blue lake variety), and sweet bell peppers (4 plants). I always have extra produce - but I share with my employees and coworkers.
