O.K. disney people, My wife disnymik has been force feeding me information from this "board" for several weeks now. She has a good heart bless her soul. I rarely use the Internet at home because of being on the PC at work all day long. I have a question, thats right you heard it first, Me the over fed husband that listens to all of your stories and spa experiences (hiddenhearth) every night before bed. This question DW has not provided an answer too.
Maybe it was the excitement of planning the trip that caused her not to think about this Q. maybe she forgot me in her excitement to spend every waking moment together. What ever the reason that she in disney stupor did not think of this is beyond me.
You've waited long enough, here goes.
What acivities are there for me to do? Remember I have heard all the acitivities that are on these boards, try to answer this thought provoking question "outside of the box".

Well, I'm stumped. You have already heard everything on the board?

I mean on the boards we've talked about everything from organized adult activities like wine tasting & making Bahama Mamas, to shooting basketball hoops or swimming, to spa activities & the gym, to watching that beautiful ocean, to snoozing on squishy lounge chairs in the shade on deck 4.

Nuthin' else I can think of...

Have fun finding other stuff to do too!!!!!! It will be great!

Thanks for your reply! DW said that my message was general.
I'm really looking forward to this vacation!!!

DH, it kind of depends on you and how big that box of yours is ;-)! My DH really enjoyed the following (not in any particular order)

1. Talks with the Captain and Special Guest - who on our trip happened to be an Imagineer. My DH is an engineer, so this was a very positive thing he enjoyed tremendously

2. Related to #1, any tour of the ship that looked at facilities (DH was not in to art, however the galley setup was interesting).

3. Playing shuffle board with the kids

4. Playing in the Surial with the wife ;-)

5. snorkeling on all the islands

6. the evening family and adult shows in the nightclubs (in addition to the family entertainment in the main theater)

7. the deck chairs on deck 4 and watching the ocean (sunset, fish, waves)

8. Having a beer in the ESPN club and watching some golf

9. playing in the sports area on deck 10 with DS

I really think it is taking advantage of activities and opportunities that don't come your way on a daily basis, and enjoying some of those things alone as well as with family.

I'm sure you will have a great time!

As one DH to another, I have 4 letters for you: E-S-P-N!!

You can always escape and catch some 'guy time' in the ESPN lounge, where sports and beer are the priorities.

Seriously, there is not enough space on this board to list all there is to do. We cruise on the Magic again in 2 months and I can't wait.

ENJOY!!!!

My SO really enjoyed going to the piano bar (Sessions?) every evening after dinner to have a T&T with roses to unwind after a very event-filled day. SO is an amature musician so he really enjoyed this. DS and I usually found something else to do. :)

akterrye - I can certainly relate: I am a not-so-amateur musician (trumpet player), and I SO wanted to sit in with the band at Sessions one night! A good friend of mine is a top pro who 'cut his teeth' playing on cruise ships, so he gave me a little inside info, but still it just didn't quite happen for me. (My friend is now playing lead trumpet for Harry Connick Jr.) Anyway, that's definitely one of the more enjoyable things on board, if you happen to be into music! Head downstairs to Sessions...

Beano, that is so cool that you have a friend that now plays with Harry Connick Jr.! I'm sorry you didn't get to sit in with the band...that would have TRUELY made for a memorable cruise...maybe on your next one? :teeth:

akterrye - I am counting on it! I bet I am the only person on the ship travelling with a trumpet mouthpiece!! :)

My friend and I have both played lead horn for Maynard Ferguson's orchestra and it would indeed be the memory of a lifetime to get down and jam with the band on the ship... I believe I can hold my own!! ;)

based on your countdown, i'm assuming you're cruising on the Wonder......so some of the activities in the other posts won't apply (things that are on the Magic than aren't on the Wonder...various courses and the like)...

we were on the Wonder....let's see.....what did my husband like to do....
basically it was the first time in about 10 years that he was disconnected......normally he's online/on cellphone/on beeper 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days of the year....even on vacation....
well.....being on a ship kind of cuts you off from civilization....
so that was the best thing....no (&*%(&$%$*^ cellphone to ring in the middle of a lovely dinner....
how do you spell bliss....

of course, he did find his way to the internet cafe and signed up for the unlimited usage plan.....but he didn't spend much time there....(anyway.....CNN is on the room tv so he could keep up with world events that way)....

so....what else....
basically he was happy to just hang out with the family....that is what a family vacation is all about....
it didn't matter what we were doing.....playing shuffleboard, dancing in wavebands at the 50's party (my daughter made sure we got up for the spotlight slow dances....what a kid)...

my daughter also had us accompany her to EVERY dueling pianos performance.....we enjoyed that as well....

as for me.....if he and i had been alone on this cruise i would have been happy sitting on the verandah reading a book.....
just sitting on the verandah was the most relaxing thing...
i can now understand the attraction of owning a yacht and sailing the world...

oh...which reminds me....he really enjoyed watching the ship dock at each port and sail away again....
the docking (you have to be up early in the morning to watch it in port canaveral) is very interesting (if you're weird the way we are).....wathching the process....

and he too enjoyed the cocktail party with the captain and crew (the concierge party)......he's a nuts and bolts kind of person so he basically interogated them about the workings of the ship...orgainization...etc......(that is, he's not very good at social chit chat, but get him talking about business or something concrete and he's happy as can be......the captain and senior crew seemed to be similar so they had a grand time chatting it up)...

bottom line....it's not so much any specific activities that make the cruise magical....it's the whole experience put together....and the amazing service....the CMs are the most professional, friendly, helpful people you can imagine...even better than the CMs at WDW.....and that's saying a lot...

oh.....to give you an idea of how strange we are....we even enjoyed the lifeboat drill.....:)

Actually... We're on the Magic.

My countdown is based on when we leave... and we're spending a week in WDW before our cruise. :)

We sail on the 10/12 western, 7-day.

I loved your last post - it sums it all up: What makes a cruise and a vacation magical is simply those things that you as an individual or as a family, love to do! ... "The whole experience put together".

It's great to get the input and advice from others, particularly if you want to do a specific thing or see a specific place... but otherwise, this vacation is YOURS, and the things you should do ??? Whatever the hell YOU want to!!

I can't wait to cruise again. A week on the Magic is an incomparable joy. :)
I know EXACTLY what I want to do!!!!!!! Nothin' else matters.

BeanoC....i know you're on the Magic....that comment of mine was to the guy who posted this question....DisnyMik......it seemed to me that he's going to be on the Wonder....

which reminds me......we were on the starboard side of the ship enabling us to watch the docking process at port canaveral (the ship turns around and docks starboard side to dock at port canaveral.......in nassau, the ship turned around and backed in, so in that case, our room was facing away from the island.....but we did have another cruise ship to look at while in port...and to wave to as we sailed away...i can't rmemeber which way we were turned at CC)...
