Iv'e been wanting to tell everyone for ages now but he finally got the go ahead yesterday.:thumbsup2 As from May 11th Martyn will be starting his training to become a paramedic. He passed the medical, fitness, driving test and interview about 4 weeks ago but they were just waiting for his blood test results, we had to wait a little over 3 weeks for these and it has been a very long wait as he gave up the chance to become a traffic officer for this job. They rang him yesterday and said yes you have the job and start 11th may, which just happens to be my 30th birthday lol:cheer2: So pleased for him as ever since his accident and leaving the Army 7 years ago its all he has wanted to do:) Its a 3 year training course and he also gets a degree so lots of hard work for him  He should be ok though as he has the brains of the house hold!

That's great news Michelle - tell Martyn good luck from me. It's a job I've always fancied but know I'm just not the right person to do a job like that. I hope everything goes smoothly and he's very happy in his new career :goodvibes

Well done, these are hard jobs to get in to.

Don't you need to be a Technician first though?

DH had a completely drunk 13 year old girl the other day, I mean drunk as a skunk drunk and the parents were about as useful as a chocolate teapot!

What the hell gets a kid wanted to get that paraletic in the first place?

Good luck to him though, it's a very worthwile job and we definitely need more of them :woohoo:

Excellent news

Great news - well done & congratulations to your DH! :yay:

It's nice to hear some positive news in regards to people getting jobs through the tough times at present!

Wish him all the best and I hope he enjoys it! :goodvibes

Congrats to your DH, I have recently joined the ambulance service as a lowly ECSW, I do want to become a paramedic, so will look at starting the ball rolling. Its a different process depending on what county you work for. It took 2 years for me to get this far & I still haven't done the driving bit!

You can go straight in as a student paramedic as you have to do the degree now whereas before it was just an IHCD qualification.

There will soon be no such thing as Technician, its a sore point. The IHCD have decided not to continue with the Tech role unless you are already one. I applied to be a Trainee Tech, passed the whole process to be told I had to go as an ECSW as the tech is no longer. However when I was training they were also running a Tech course:mad:

Rumour has it that Techs will be coming back, although the ambulance service I work for will be one of the last to implement it:headache:

I had a 16 year drunk the other day who was unconcious & fitting due to the alcohol, the police were supposed to be attending as the address was flagged, however they eventually turned up 30 minutes later after one of the crew pressed the man down button after we were threatened. Apparently the mother is well known to the police.
