DFW Disers..Airfare $$ ? DFW to MCO....

Just FYI

Over the weekend, I purchased RT air which connects through DFW for only $138.00 RT after taxes (Lowestfare.com & AA). As DFW is my only stop, it goes without saying that my DFW-MCO leg is non-stop. It looks like the airlines might be giving your DFW-MCO non-stops to other connecting flights at the bargain prices.

We always get left out down here in Dallas regarding low airfares, wish I still lived up East they get all the good fares, that's ok, decided last night to drive to Orlando this year!!!

Hey Goofy,
This is exactly the situation with the airlines at DFW! We have no choice but to pay their high fares because they have eliminated the competition in this market with the Wright Amendment. Therefore they don't compete with SWA low fares as there are no nonstops DFW to MCO on smaller airlines.

They do have to compete in other markets so that's why they have to offer lower fares in your area. You have a choice and they know it!
If we want nonstop we pay for it.

It is maddening when they are always asking for bailouts and concessions, but continue to rake their own community over the coals!

We usually drive and this will be our first time flying. Good luck D in whatever you decide.

LIFERBABE,
You do have a choice and a really good one! Take a look at airtran.com. They have a n/s flight out of DFW and regularly discount their fares. I fly them almost exclusively these days. With all the PR I've been doing for them on this board lately, they should hire me!:p (See the "freakout" post fom BibiddyBobiddyBoo) I often find fares of 59.00 one way and usually pay about 650.00 for my family of 5. even during holiday periods like Thanksgiving. If I miss one sale I catch the next one. They discounted their fare for my 4th of July trip in early June. I don't even worry about it anymore!

The biggest reason we pay more to fly from DFW is that the airlines here don't have to compete with Southwest. You can get some good fares but we consistently pay more than most other markets.

Airtran hasn't in the past been one that offers great fares from DFW. The best deals I've gotten have been on Delta, paying as little as $111 round trip but that was a few years ago. Usually their really good fares only last a few hours. United has had the best lately but they don't fly non-stop and have a more limited schedule.

Using orbitz or expedia has always worked great for me to find fares. I buy directly from the airline using online or call if I need to. We ended up paying $228 for our Nov trip but have the schedule that works best for us and non-stops. Because the trip is around Thanksgiving the fares have been averaging about $300.

Now I have to start looking for fares in March, I'll have a little more schedule flexibility so might try the United flights for that trip if they drop the price way down again.

After months of $250+ airfares.. we decided to 'suck it up' and locked in yesterday at $210.50 for a non-stop on AA.

For those of you still looking for airfares DFW to MCO... check out AirTran... they were/are having an internet sale that was turning out to be $170 roundtrip ( and they had non-stops available for the same price).

If anyone out there has flown AirTran DFW to MCO and has any comments, etc... please post! We were enticed by the lower fare, but just couldn't bring ourselves to do it... so we went with the $210 on American.

UPDATE: Just looked again on AirTran - the web sale DFW to MCO is $79 each way (+ taxes).
