Just talked to my guide about adding on at AKV. She told me about an incentive where you can get extra developer points if you do not take the Cash incentive for the add on. The only catch is that we would have to use them within 7 months. We already have 3 trips planned on our 2007 SSR points. Will MS let us "Reallocate" the developer points to these reservations, and then bank our 2007 points that would be released from these reservations?

It can be done but it can be tricky depending on where those reservations are. Many posters have had no problem switching to developer points and your guide can help with this if needed.

This was our scenario (does not mean that it worked out this way for others in a similar position): We have a reservation at SSR for Dec. 31-Jan.3. We planned to use the developer points to "switch out" with the 2007 points that we had originally used to make the ressie. We would then bank our released 2007 points. The problem was that we wanted to make the switch with a very sought after ressie, New Years Eve. If MS tried to switch then the ressie could have been instantly lost to the waiting list. If we had wanted to make this switch on a random date then there would have been no problem. In other words they are technically canceling and rebooking the ressie which is no problem as long as there is availability to back you up. In this case there was no additional availability. MS would have to "overbook" the resort with the new ressie utilizing developer points and then cancel the original ressie. There was no gaurantee that the CM in the Developer Dept. would handle it in the correct sequence. The chance of loosing the New Years ressie was too great so we left it as it was.

We used the developer points to make other reservations to extend 2 other trips. Good luck!

Here's the problem. If there is a waitlist, your cancellation would go to the first person on the waitlist before you could reallocate your points. This will only work if there is no waitlist for the reservation you have.

I'd call MS to see if there is a waitlist for your trips (chances are there is) before you accept the developer's points. Go with the savings.

Have your Guide take care of your point reallocation as a condition of your purchase. It's amazing what they can do when they want to make a sale.

Just wanted to share my experience with developer points...

I just put a down payment yesterday on 160 pts AKL. I told my guide that I didn't want to buy unless I knew that I could use these developer points - since they expire in 7 months. He was happy to check availability for me (at Disney GCH) before I put a down payment. There was availability and I joined.

He had me call back today to make reservations, as he had to wait until I was in the system. Since I haven't yet received any paperwork, haven't closed and don't have a member number yet, the guide called MS for me and we had a three way call while I made reservations.

It was a very easy process and my guide was very helpful. It was clearly something he'd done many times.
